Play the clay season and RG before the USO?

I am thinking that maybe it would be better if the ATP change the events around, so the clay season and RG go first and then the USO with Cincy. Many players whom are based in Europe don't need to travel far, especially with everything going on State side. RG would be a good litmus test on how to potentially conduct a slam with proper security measures in place, which can be revised for USO. Push USO back to end of September start of October.

Also clay would be a good surface to get back into point construction, since points will be longer.

Thoughts?

As long as it’s done if the safest way possible. I don’t care which order they get played in, I just want them played at this point.
Yeah. Been watching multiple matches that have been released online to fill the void, but really would like to some live competitive tennis. Just feels weird I am not watching Wimbledon live right now.

This would have been fine if they made this decision earlier, but it seems too late now. Could have some chilly matches as well.

It's probably too late for any of this, but with roofs on Ashe and Armstrong, you could play the entire thing indoors in October or November, after RG. Earlier round matches could be played at Uniondale and other arenas. If there are no fans, it doesn't really matter where you play it.

Its logical to go in that order. But Usta is afraid of strong 2nd wawe canceling it outright while its obvious they wont be past 1st wawe in august so they are hopeful to squeeze through with it forcefully.

This all makes sense, but really an ITF decision.

We are facing a seasonal swing in the numbers where the really hot countries/regions are having a resurgence with more people gathering indoors for the air conditioning.

The one thing New York area has going for it is double the infection rate so far which means it will be much harder for Covid to get off the ground there plus they are pretty sersious about Corona given the impact in the region, so its really a hard call. I don't think the clay events will want to move up as they will be all the more played if New York ends up pulling the plug at the last moment or some of the top players.

Your suggestion might make sense for the greater good, but Europe has little incentive to make this move.

Reasonable idea, although it gets pretty complicated no matter what if the season pushes on. Are we seriously going to have 2 UO, 2 FO, and 2 AO before Wimbledon is played once? Seriously, that's messed up. Do we push the next FO past Wimbledon next year and when exactly? Should the AO be skipped to keep order? In the end it seems easier to just start over again in IW 2021.

Why not? Should we cease with tennis all together until conditions are met for folks at Wimbledon to hold it. For all we know, we will have absolutely identical situation next summer.

Integrity of the sport is what I'm getting at. Scheduling, rankings, and records have to be considered. They have to get it right. Throwing stuff together isn't the way imo.

Perhaps this would have been possible if RG had worked and consulted with others instead of umi;aterally changing the date.
