Played with the PS 97 CV today and . . .

I'm a 4.5 player and just played a couple of sets of singles with the PS 97 CV strung with NXT 16g at mid tension right off the stringer. I have been a long time 6.1 user in the past, but fallen off the wagon and been playing with many lighter frames for a few years. I loved the way the RF 97 played, but couldn't handle the weight for an extended period.

Love the dampened feel and the solid contact. I still couldn't swing it as hard as some of the lighter frames I've used recently (BLX Pro Open, Tex Warrior 100, Yonex Ai 98, Graphene Rad MP), but wasn't too much of an issue since I could block and redirect so nicely with depth by just making contact out front. Serve was good, but not as powerful. My opponent did say my serve has good weight. Slice backhand felt very nice as did volleys. Forehand was pretty powerful when swinging out, but didn't have as much spin or jump off the court as when using polys. The power could be the NXT but not sure on that yet. Will have to try it with a poly to see how that works. Return of serve was also very good, but had some trouble with serves out wide as I wasn't catching up to them as quickly.

Anyone else tried this with polys in it? How did it play? I usually play with Solinco Hyper G 18g or Cyclone 18g at 57lbs. Thinking of trying the Hyper G 18 at 52lbs and see how that plays.

What was your experience playing with the PS 97 CV?

I am yet to demo ps97 cv. Nice feedback, did you ever hit with ps97 2016. If so, any comparisions?

I have hit with the PS 97 2016 also. That was a very different frame. Didn't feel the same level of stability or comfort off the PS 97 2016. Also, the PS 97 CV has a more headlight feel and swings easier through the air than the PS 97 2016.

Really? You're a 4.5 player and you don't know if the power is coming from a full bed of multi like NXT? That's almost like playing a full bed of Gut. I'm surprised you could even keep a ball in the court with that kind of power. A full bed of high end poly strung in the mid to upper 40's would provide plenty of power to anyone that hits an advanced ball. And if you're a 4.5... you should be hitting an advanced ball by now.

Wow man, relax. Coming on way too strong to say the least.

The guy has hit with it once with only one type of strings. Maybe he has never hit with nxt before, I know I haven't and I'm a 4.5.

I see zero wrong with saying what he said considering he only has experience with one string. He cannot be sure that the string is the only reason for the power.

Thanks! PS97 - more stable and comfort than ps97cv. Hmmm...Hopefully will demo both this week.

I've hit with NXT before, but never in this frame. My stint with NXT was over 11 years ago in a Head LM Prestige which has a tight pattern and I used to string a lot tighter back then, so didn't have the same "power" effect. I think I will try this with some Hyper G 18g around 52lbs and hope that helps to "normalize" the feel for me, but we'll see about that. My time with the BLX 6.1 was with MSV Focus Hex 18g at 48lbs which gave me great ball pocket, but I have really flattened my stroke out a lot since then, so maybe a bit more tension to help with that.

Most 4.5 aren't gearheads and don't really care much about the latest and the greatest. They find a setup they like and they stick to it and just practice to get better at their game, instead of relying on unicorn equipment. That's probably why this 4.5 player isn't too familiar with the attributes of NXT.

One "nag" on the PS 97 CV frame is the beam width, which feels a bit chunky. I loved the beam width of the BLX 6.1 and it felt less wide. I haven't measured it, but just complaining based on feel and memory.

The current Blade felt very nice in terms of beam width though but I think there is .5 mm difference there maybe.

You mean the beam has a flat surface compared to the oval shaped beam of the 6.1?

Not so much a matter of being a gearhead, rather more a quirk of preference with me.

My BLX frames were stolen a few years ago and I've been trying to find replacements and got talked into playing with lighter frames and join the modern game over the past few years. My strokes are fairly modern, but I find myself wanting to hit a less strenuous stroke than the full swings of the modern game. So, I feel that heavier frames help me to redirect with a less violent swing and more feel. Before everyone says try the Volkl C-10 Pro or some version of the Tour 10, I already have and like them, but am not a big fan of the grip shape.

In trying to use a more compact stroke, I find myself using a one-handed bh more and more and like the feel of a less clunky beam when changing grips and adjusting the angle of my racquet face on certain shots.

Not so much the shape, rather the width. Although, that might be why it feels more "chunky" if the beam width is the same as the old 6.1s. I've used Head frames in the past that were rectangular and never felt that same chunkiness.

Sorry to sound so harsh babar. I didn't mean to be. I guess I just always assume that everyone knows a lot about strings as I do. If the PS97CV is anything like the PS97 it will play fantastically with a full bed of good poly strung in the mid to upper 40's.

Got 3 coming and can't wait to slap a leather grip on these... Played great when I demo'ed them just a little light since I'm playing with the PS97 with a leather grip - nice whip!

Playing it with 17g hyper G @ 52

No worries TM. I am fairly knowledgeable about strings and tension, but every racquet has its own nuance, so I don't try to assume something will feel the same in one racquet as it did in another.

Do you remember what your demo was strung with? I'm leaning toward Cyclone 18g, but I liked the Hyper G in my old Radical MP, so might want to try that out too.

Just want a soft poly to get a better ball pocket.

Yes - I strung the demo with 18g rpm blast @ 52... I don't mind fresh rpm blast but I didn't have any hyper G to string it up with... I like lux spin too...

Cyclone and code red both hurt my wrist when I was messing with strings in the 2016 PS97

thanks for the info, i will try the PS97 CV when the proshop at my club has a demo
they thought they would get it anytime now, as they are a wilson only shop.

i am playing much better with the 2015 PS97s, i think the 2017 PS97s are much stiffer, and have
less flex and feel. i am using lux alu power in the 2015s and a hybrid of hyperG and multifilament, addiction
in the 2017s. the new racquets seem to work better against opponents who hit offspeed or soft, the older ones
against people who hit the ball.
so if i dont know the opponents, i might switch out the racquets in the middle of a set or game
once i figure out which ones works the best.
