After the case of Madison Keys, many players, including Diego Schwartzman, Roberto Bautista and Arina Rodionova, now are denouncing their flood of insults they receive on social media.

This is counter to when I watched Roger's periscope Q&A.

The messages were coming in so quick and Roger even said he couldn't read anything because they were going too fast so he just answered whatever he saw.

On social media you usually get insulted, up until recent events, by nobodies.

The mass media usually has some sort of purpose. In Sharapova's case, it is part of a wider Russophobia.

Always has to be different, doesn't she?

So, if she hadn't been Russian, do you think the media would have gone easier on her?

you gotta admire them for being able to shrug off all those insults, remember when you were in highschool and people cnostantly said mean things to you? imagine that everyday despite trying your hardest

The political agenda of most liberal media is geared towards a 'face-off' with Russia so if she weren't Russian she'd lose relevance.

The invention of Meldonium was designed to prosecute this 'face-off' with Russia so she has proven a useful tool in the ongoing war to ban Russia from anything and everything.

On the other hand, I don't think she was the most useful tool because she is too Americanised, too pretty, and too modern Russia. But they banned a drug, not individuals.

And Russians are still banned from athletics and the paralympics, even though the drug testing scandal is now well past, because the organisations are run by Britons.

So, if she hadn't been Russian, do you think the media would have gone easier on her?

It's crazy, really. I bet all the top players have had multiple death threats throughout their careers. Maybe even one or two more serious ones and not just semi-troll stuff as shown above. Some of the ill wishes I see in comments in general on youtube or whatnot are just.... there are no words.

Why do players even care about those insults.

They should just imagine those are made by fat, acne-ridden ugly people who can't get out of their chair without help. Which they probably are.

I honestly think that's why there are so many headcases these days. It must be very distracting, especially for the women (some of the stuff directed at them is truly sick). Plus, you never know if one of those weirdos might be a violent stalker. I think the younger generation coming up will be better equipped to deal with it because they will be desensitized and used to trolls, sadly.

Trolls are like emotional leeches because they don't really have an existence, they don't know what it's like to have friends or loved ones so they have to make other peoples lives a misery to make themselves feel better. They are cowards, spineless parasites.

I detest them with every fiber of my being, you had a bad childhood, well boo hoo, if you've got an issue give me a tissue because that doesn't give you a right to make other peoples lives a misery over the Internet.

You people do know even if you're rich people have committed suicide because of trolling and online abuse.

Bet that accounts for an awful lot of it yeah.

Bets, accounts, yeah.

This might be one case where the male players that play enough video games are better off. This kinda **** doesn't really bother you when everybody + their grandma is flaming you while playing dota/cod/lol or whatever game.

Also TI7 hype.
