Players should not be allowed to wear the same outfits

I've seen the women pros do it a couple of times. Now Verdasco and Murray have identical caps, shirts, pants! What the heck is going on? Fans can't always keep straight who is who. Both should be penalized!

Do the sponsors not choose the outfits of the players for grand slam matches? I feel like Adidas missed out on an opportunity to advertise two outfits instead of one.

I doubt sponsors pick out ones for specific matches. I assume players get several to choose from and it was a coincidence, but don't know for sure.

No more Adida products for me :)

I think it's kind of hilarious.

Both FeVer and the MurMan are sponsored by Adidas. I think each manufacturer only has a limited number of colors they put into their lines each season (if you've noticed, the players sponsored by the same clothing company tend to wear variations on the same colors; Serena and a couple of the other ladies had variations on Nike's version of that neon yellow).

I'm sure the boys get their checks and show up to put on what they're given out of their early choices.

If you're having a hard time keeping them straight, just remember that Andy is a righty and FeVer is a lefty.

:)

Their footwear was different. Verdasco was playing in white shoes, Murray in black!

This is probably wildly incorrect, but maybe Adidas really did not expect Verdasco to get anywhere in this tournament.

It's more funny than a real problem (come on you can see who's who with the style of hitting alone and left/righty, also Murray is a lot stiffer and taller). It's always awkward to walk into a party with the same cloths as someone else, and this has the feel. Murray is lucky to be playing and not Kohlsman.

Was it really that hard to tell them apart when Verdasco looks like he has been left in the oven too long? I agree it was a little ridiculous today with the matching hats too but maybe OP should watch tennis a little more often, it happens alot in other tournements, especially wimbledon. However "Fans" should have no problem telling any player apart, even if they wore the same body suit.

Wimbledom wants predominantly white not necessarily 100% whte. Players headgear tends to differ too with either none, cap, or sweatband.

Adidas chose the same outfit for each one of their players. I don't understand it. Especially the yellow.

I wonder why we see a lot more of this now than say in the 90's. Sponsors were around, tennis was a global sport. I can't think of anything except for these brands becoming lazier or less imaginative. You'd see a lot more variety 10-20 years ago. There's a clear normalization of tennis outfits nowadays.

It is for viewer entertainment. The extra work it takes to figure out who is who is an obstacle to that. I actually shut it off. These two are pretty boring anyway.

I suggested a solution some months ago here and still like it: players are required to have an alternate outfit with them, and if it's found shortly before the match that their outfits are essentially identical (or similar enough to make watching on TV maddening), the lower ranked player is required to change.

If you are a true tennis fan, you should have no trouble identifying who is who.. If you are not a true tennis fan, you probably don't care who is who..

Regardless, even if you cannot work out who the players are during the point, a couple seconds after the point ends you will work out who-is-who when the server...serves?!

Irrelevant issue.

Lol...it wouldn't be so bad if Murray didn't have to wear a friggin' matching cap on top of everything else! We all know Verdasco always wears a cap but Murray usually doesn't. Yet he had one on even though it wasn't particularly sunny or hot out there!

Good job they were wearing different colour shoes!

Maybe some contact could be made ahead of the match between the players to establish who's wearing what colour or maybe seasoned tennis fans like ourselves are all too familiar with who's who out there regardless of what they are wearing!

These situations are especially bad for highlights on the news. Also, changing into different colors mid-match is pretty terrible for the highlight reels.
