Players you enjoy destruction of

:-D :-D 10/10 meme. I rate 40 stars out of 15

Even Fed's most ardent critics like us have to hand it to him: he sure knows to keep entertainment up in these later stages of his career.

What a treat he offered us in that last W final.

We'll be remembering that for a LOOOOONG time.

That was stupid. My only hope is that such a tournament with fans and full-capacity will ever be possible in the future.
Unfortunately that is nowhere sight... the Citi Open cancelled yesterday and my inkling is that NY is soon to follow... What's the status with the Madrid Open? Will it be spectator-less??

A part of me hates myself for it, but I genuinely do root against Nadal and Djokovic every single time I watch them play.

Well put. Even when they deserve to win and clearly the better and more attacking player, I just can’t do it. Then I end up bearing a little grudge against the muppet who just couldn’t keep up their level and close it out.

That’s a big reason why I love guys like the Fog, Nick, Simon etc who just wont take Nadalovic s**t and can (too infrequently) finish the job.

AO19 Nadalovic was just so strange because I felt nothing. It was a fantastic denadalization but it was nullified because it was Novak playing clean aggressive tennis. If Novak played like that more, he’d be watchable.

Some denadalizations I can watch dozens of times, including by Novak (especially BO3 clay), but I have never returned to that one.

AO 19 was weird. In a way I enjoyed it because I was definitely rooting for Novak in that one. But Nadal was just playing so poorly that it wasn't fun to watch. Novak played pretty flawlessly, but I also think his level in that match is extremely overrated because he wasn't pushed at all. Nadal was spraying balls all day, right from the warm-up through to match point.

It's not a match with a lot of awesome Djokovic highlights that make Nadal look silly. It was just classic Novak placing the ball deep and his opponent not being able to handle it. Pretty boring match.

If you want some true Djokovic AO masterclass, I recommend the 2013 SF vs Ferrer. Now that's a match I will never get tired of rewatching!

update: the match was removed from YouTube on copyright claims. So much for that

I've gone back and re-watched 2011 & 2016 to a masochistic level. Trust me, I know what a Djoker masterclass looks like down under.

:-D :-D :-D :-D :-D

His masterclass is against nobody, because anyone other than Fed and Rafa are total nobodies. Nobody cares about Ferrer or anyone's wins against Ferrer.

Good joke anyway. Made my day.

I haven't rewatched the full 2016 match since it happened. Was it really anything special from Novak? I remembered it as being a pretty routine, unremarkable match, at least compared to the epic performance against Federer in the semi.
2011 final is always a joy to watch though (unless you're a Murray fan). Djokovic was on fire that day.

Not a very amor v paz thread, I know, but there are certain players whom I enjoy most when they get destroyed. Like, absolutely get hit off the court.

When Zverev hype was at its peak, I enjoyed watching him lose. Especially when he would melt down and smash the hell out of his racquet(s).

Lately, my favourite walking wicket has been Aryna Sabalenka. It was particularly enjoyable to watch Anisimova and Yastremska destroy her with effortless, non grunt hitting while she screamed and huffed and puffed but found herself way out of court to get within a mile of the ball.

So who are the ones you enjoy watching lose? Especially those like Sabalenka who sulk massively when they lose, as if her losing to Anisimova is the upset of the millennium.

Always like to see the following two guys crushed in grand slam matches-

Federer and Nadal.

For 2016 I'm referring to the semi specifically. The early part of that match is still the highest level I can remember seeing from him.

I love it whenever Novak beats Federer, especially at Wimbledon, sorry.

LOL, make that two! And with every loss to Djokovic, Federer's Wimbledon GOAT claim becomes more LOL worthy :-D

Those losses have only added to his Wimby GOAT status.

Machan ... it adds to his accomplishments, no argument there. But losing to the same player repeatedly, a fellow GOAT candidate, how does that add to his Wimbledon GOAT status?

Still making finals in his mid 30s where only the #1 player in the world, another ATG and potential GOAT can stop him?

Hard to see how that makes him look worse unless you completely ignore his and Novak's ages in 2014-19.

His Wimbledon GOAT status is still completely unchallenged, so idk how these losses make it laughable.

No, making a final only adds to his resume. Sampras was 7-0, Federer is 8-4. Federer isn't as invulnerable against his rivals as Sampras was, but he's still been there 5 more times than Pete. And 3 of those 4 losses came when Fed was past Sampras's retirement age.

That's just being realistic, isn't it? As a Djokovic fan, let's say he's waiting in the final of RG and Nadal-Isner play the second semi. You're seriously telling me you're not rooting like hell for Isner to beat Rafa?

If Isner plays well and defeats Rafa, he would fully deserve it. But to simply hope and pray that Nadal plays badly , seems very childish, no ?

I don't know what a Machan or Machi is and I'm a little afraid to find out.

LOL Meat! :-D

Machi is the short form of the Tamil word 'Machaan' .
It has different meanings in different contexts.
Formally it means your sister's husband. You also call your wife's brother 'Machaan'.

Informally , it is also used as an endearing term between male friends .
Machaan then becomes Machii.
The root for this term may be, your friend has a desire to become your 'proper 'Machaan'. It may be a subtle way of him expressing his desire to marry your sister :-D

But most of the time, it's a term of endearment, showing bonding and closeness of the friendship .

I used to think I would enjoy the destruction of Rafa's 2 fellow goat rivals Fed and Djo. But Djokovic losing to Thiem at the FO semis last year was not a good feeling and neither was Roger losing in the Wimby final like that. Who is someone that hates Rafa? Nick the slick. But I like watching him, he is extremely entertaining so I don't enjoy him losing either.

I guess that leaves it to the women's. I can't say I'm fond of Sharapova. So while I don't root for her to lose, I might root for the opponent to outplay her. There. That's prob as close as I'll get to enjoying the destruction of.

... and several of Djokovic's grand slam titles have come after Sampras's retirement age! GOAT!

Well Djokovic is head and shoulders above Sampras in the overall GOAT race, that's for sure.

Fully agreed, machan! But Sampras will beat Djokovic like a drum in a straight fight .... according to the Federer fans :)
