Playing districts in another state - is this ok?

I guess the title should read, "Why is it ok to play districts in another state, and potentially represent that state at sectionals? There are a few sparsely populated states that basically only have districts at the state level. To make it to sectionals only requires winning districts against teams from within the state, which are generally four or so teams. My sister, living in one such state, had to play a team comprised entirely of nonresidents from a neighboring state that didn't advance in their own state's playoffs (admittedly harder to make it to sectionals in their state of residence) that wanted to go to sectionals by winning a neighboring state's district tournament. I think technically it's ok, but should it be? Are there any rules that state that "X" number of players on a team need to actually reside in the state that is being represented? This only affects a few states, since most have a more rigorous qualifying schedule. Thanks -

Lots of people do this around here ... I dont think it is really a problem although others here disagree.

However, in many sections there is a rule that only 4 players from a team in one district may alos play on the same team in another district. I do not know if this is true every where.

It seems strange that you can play in more than one district/state tournament. Shouldn't you be allowed to participate in only one district level tournament per event?

that would make sense.but. You can play in 10 leagues in 1 state if you could find 10 leagues in 1 state but you can only play at state for 1 team..

you can play at state in as many states as possible i suppose i'm not sure though but when it comes time for sectionals you have to pick 1..

i know several people in a neighboring state that has a small amount of players (well the city does not the state) and they play there and here.. Here the leagues are usually bigger and the driving distance is not that far maybe 30 minutes so they play in both states usually..

Each 'districts' is a separate tournament. So, why would you not let a player participate in more than one tournament?

Players can not participate in more than one team at each of those tournaments, so there is some kind of limiting rule in place.

I did that in the past where I moved to a new state out of section and played on my old team in Nebraska as well as a new team in Wisconsin. It was a bit of a hassle especially since both teams made sectionals so I played in both sectionals in back to back weekends. I don't see the harm in it, if both of my teams made nationals I would have to pick one so no big deal there. But not something I am planning on ever doing again, too much drive time.
