Is this different from all the other current tourna polys? Does anyone know who this string is targeting?

If this is same string I play tested a few years back it a low end offering. It could be something brand new or a new formulation of an older product. The one I tested and used to sell a bit of is your basic 1st gen poly. Think Gosen Polylon. The old one did not have multiple colors so I am guessing a new string or a re-marketing of an older product. BTW... I am a long time user of Tourna Strings and they are great price performers. I just did the Dunlop SX300 frame test.. so not signing up for this one. Spread the testing around. Enjoy testers!!

The description says "the low power level will enable you to execute your most powerful strokes without fear of overhitting". I like the sound of that. I wish there was either red or blue color to match my Vcore. lol

I think they only made one color back when I tested it. It was listed as "Pearl"... ie White.. etc.

Here is a thread from a while back. I think I got a reel for under $40.00 on Amazon back then. TW was not selling it when I picked up my reel. Pretty sure I used the entire reel for customers looking for low end poly set-up. Lots of HS players looking for string they could get some control and a bit of durability.

Sounds like a good head to head comparison to my Isospeed baseline, but reading the thread, not super hopeful

What I like about IsoSpeed Baseline is that is comes is multiple gauges and is really easy on the arm. My memory of the old Poly Professional is that is plays pretty stiff. Of course this newer version could have been reformulated and re marketed with these new colors..which are pretty cool looking. Adding the color to a string in most cases gives each string a slightly different feel. I am very interested in this offering as I very curious about it compared to the older version. Can't wait to hear the reviews, insights and experiences with this one. I am a big Tourna string guy so I hope this is another solid offering.

Looking forward to testing this after a long hiatus from tennis. Thank you @TW Staff for selecting me, I appreciate it. Sounds like an excellent poly offering IMO. In my experience color definitely changes the way string plays, usually darker being a bit less lively. Not sure which color I'll get but either way will do my best to give it a good, thorough test!

Looking forward to receiving my set!
My first Playtest came at a perfect time, as I've been testing a few strings recently looking for an inexpensive option to use as a cross on my poly-poly setup.
Will try this one on my trusty Prince Graphite 100 to compare with the others

”Durability” seems to be this string’s strong point. Going to choose the Black Ace Pro since RPM Blast (*17G) last only lasted about six hours before it lost control, Let’s see how this string compares against the “oldie but a goodie”.

Dang. Just got a notice delivery is delayed to Monday due to weather. Was looking forward to hitting with it over the weekend.

Very interested to see how/if the different colors play differently for each person.

I am really interested in how this newer offering plays compared to the version I tested a few years back. The colors look very cool. I would love to have a low end poly to offer to customers that had nice durability and choice of colors. The White / Ivory was very nice looking... I am guessing the green will be a big seller as folks love to match the green to the many green frames out there. The black is also very nice and work great with most colors in today's many frames.

Just received my set in black!
Will try to string it tonight and hit with it during the week.
Will use my usual 53x50lbs tension on my PCG100 (extended to 27.5).
Hope it's not too harsh on the arm and has food tension maintenance.

I received my string in yellow but it broke when I was stringing it (50 lbs in a drop weight). For comparison I string cyclone and other comparable strings at 52 lbs. The string broke midway through stringing the crosses.
@TW Staff - I sent you a note at the discuss admin mailbox. Please advise on what I should be doing, since I will not be able to post a review.

-this is my FIRST update on this string review
-i want to write it down before i forget
-i received the package today 2/21/2022
-its the 17g TOURNA.premium.poly in BLACK
-package reads that it is a DURABILITY/HARD/SLICK string
-after reading the package and its intended characteristics, i decided to play it against ypt.STRIKE (17g BLACK)

-just finished stringing it on my 2x w.blade-98s-v8s, strung it at 51lbs
-while stringing, i could tell it did have the slick outer coating!!
-not crazy slick, but enough to make it glide smoothly over the strings = easy poly stringing
-in this SLICK regard, both strings i chose seem to be similar
-i strung the tourna.premium.poly first!
-one notable difference ,(while stringing) was at the pulling of the tension of the second racket
-my machine (prince 5000) has a tension buzzer that beeps when the tension is reached
-the buzzer/beep sounded notably quicker when pulling tension on the ypt.STRIKE!!
-the buzzer/beep was a bit longer/delayed while pulling tension on the tourna.premium.poly!?
-that buzzer/beep difference indicates that the tourna.PREMIUM.poly is stretching a bit more than the ypt.STRIKE
-more updates to follow!

There was reports of this happening what back when I was 1st testing this string. It is possible that you just got a bad set. I never broke a set on my stringer. I did an entire reel.

Got it. I am quite experienced stringing my own racquets (strung for myself and friends and family for 3 years now), have tried multis, synguts and polys, and have never had a string break on me. Guess I cannot participate in the playtest. Only thing I will say is that this string had a LOT of string lengthening when stringing. Each time I tensioned, the arm of the drop weight would continue to slowly drop for a prolonged period, and I frequently had to re-pull to get the right reference tension (I did verify that my clamps were not slipping). I have not had this even when stringing much softer multis in the past.

Looking forward to hearing what people think about TOURNA PREMIUM POLY 17 since they usually make a solid, value oriented string. 17ga is right up my ally for a poly.

I keep notes on strings and this is what happened to regarding this offering. There was a fair amount of string lengthening when stringing. I did a bit of re-tensioning during the entire string job(s). This lead me to believe I would be getting a softer more powerful string bed. What I got during play was a muted ..sort of dead response.

I was not questioning your stringing ability ..if I did I did not mean to imply that. Sometimes you get a bad set of string. I got an entire reel once where I could see the defects in the process. Hope TW will send out a new set. Happy Hitting..

No worries at all ... I was mostly questioning myself when this happened - like I said, first time a string has broken on me. Oh well ...

Keeping notes or a journal (unless you have an identic memory) is a great way to keep track of your thoughts on strings, tensions, racquets and strategies.

It also helps that I have been posting on this site forever and can sometimes look up my own comments on strings. LOL. I have done a bit of play testing for TW on this site. I remember this string as I tested it only about 5-6 years ago. It was very low cost and I am a fan of Tourna so I gave it a shot. Isospeed Baseline is such a great buy as are the Pros Pros strings, so I went in that direction for low cost offerings.

I do the same when I string, keeping notes on tensions, strings gauges as I fine tune some sets / hybrids to my game and racquets and for others. Gives me a good baseline. Seems like this string might well suited as a good round cross ? Have used a few offerings by Pros Pros too (Black Out/ Red Devil) Lack, but not IS Baseline yet. Interested in how / where this Tourna String fits in. Have used some of their shaped (TBH7) strings and enjoyed them.

Time for a quick update friends: I received mine in white yesterday (a few days later than expected due to weather delays). Strung it up as soon as I got it and went on court shortly afterwards. Definitely echo some of the sentiments being shared above regarding the waxy coating and string being a bit stretchy when stringing up. It reminded me a little of the discontinued TF Red Code Wax. Full detailed review coming up as soon as I spend a few more hours on court with it.

I received the green set.
Was very easy stringing.
Then again, I strung a number of vs/ alu rough jobs recently, so this felt like a breeze to string.
Will give it a good use if it holds up well, so I can post a decent review.

Tennis Warehouse Playtest: Tourna Premium Poly 17

Hello everyone, here is my review of Tourna Premium Poly 17 string. Thank you to @TW Staff for this opportunity as always. It is much appreciated. Hope you enjoy my review.

Color Received:
White

Tension(s) used for playtest:
52 lbs full bed. Stringer used was a Gamma Progression II drop weight.

Regular string set up:
I am always trying new strings and equipment setups. My last string setup was Volkl Cyclone 17 strung at 52 lbs.

Racquet used for playtest:
2019 Babolat Pure Aero. I usually put thicker strings in this but wanted to mix up things a bit. In retrospect, should have gone a bit tighter given that it is a 17 guage and a Pure Aero. Oh well.

Control/Power:
Power was ample. Honestly I was expecting it to be lower given how string is being advertised. It felt very similar to Volkl Cyclone 17. I would call it low to medium powered. Decent pop on groundstrokes and volleys as well. First serves had good pop. Second serves had a good mix of spin and pop.

As far as control, to me this definitely felt more like a control-oriented string. I felt there was good point-shoot sort of control. Not a spin monster of a string by any means but if you whipped the ball wanting it to land in, you wouldn't have trouble. Flat shots were accurate as well. Overall a very reliable stringbed response on all types of strokes. My favorite were slice second serves because those were hitting the spots every time I carved up the ball.

Feel (Stiff? Mushy? Muted? Crisp? Comfortable?):
This is a very comfortable string without a doubt. Felt considerably softer than Volkl Cyclone. Good ball dwell time on string bed and I could feel the ball pocket well. No jarring sensations, any kind of buzzing, or weird vibrations. Consistently comfortable throughout the playtest actually.

Spin:
Spin was pretty average and when compared to Cyclone 17, pretty subpar. A bit surprising because string was waxy and felt slick while stringing making me think 'snapback'. That said, in my opinion there is enough spin for bigger and advanced level hitters if you can whip the ball, it will give you spin.

Playability Durability (did it lose playability over time?):
For reference on durability aspect, I am usually not a big string breaker compared to some of the guys I hit with (DII college kids). I am currently at the 8 hour mark of string usage. It has clearly started notching and I can see the dents now. I have also noticed strings not getting back in place and me having to adjust them more and more.

Yes, stringbed did start losing playability about a few hours back. Wasn't a drop off the cliff but more of a gradual slow drop. Stringbed feedback I am getting tells me I will be cutting it out after my next session in a few hours.

Durability (did it notch? - get stuck out of position?):
The string seems durable enough for me. But as I mentioned above, I can see lots of notching and denting and if it was bigger hitters who regularly break strings, this string would not be able to withstand those. Pretty average in that regard I'd say even though it is being marketed as durability string.

Tension findings (would you string it at a different tension on your next try? Why?):
I think 52lbs was a little low tension in my 2019 Pure Aero racquet, and I will recommend bumping up the tension to maybe 55lbs for slightly better control. Since it is a soft feeling string the comfort would not come at the expense of high string tension. I will recommend going tighter than my 52 lbs in similar open pattern 16x19 racquets, just for that optimum balance of comfort and control.

Additional comments (optional):
I was excited to do this playtest as I had been on a tennis break and was excited to get back in the grind. A couple of observations below:

1) Stringing this was a breeze. Soft feel in hand, slightly waxy coating, and low coil memory made it fun to string up. I do a 2 piece (learned a long time back thanks to Andy's tutorial on T-Dubs website) and had zero issues.

2) Good overall budget string, however I did not find it excelling in any one department. Maybe a good cross string if you want to play with hybrids. Not convincing enough for me to make it my go-to string but decent enough overall nevertheless.

Conclusion:
Would like to end my playtest by saying thank you to folk at Tennis Warehouse and Tourna for this opportunity to try this string. Really a fun playtest for me.

Nice review!

  • Color received: Green

  • Tension(s) used for playset 47 lbs. CP electronic machine. Very easy stringing string.

  • Regular string set up. Klip nat. Gut 16 g. uncoated

  • Racquet used for test. Head Radical 18x19

  • Control/Power . For baseline hitting, it's a very good control string. Was able to place shots nicely, as well as volleys, so control is one of this strings best features.
  • Power was good for a poly, really not fair to compare power to nat gut of my normal set up.

  • Feel (Stiff? Mushy? Muted? Crisp? Comfortable?) Very comfortable string for a poly. I had history of tennis elbow a while back, from doing something else not tennis, and this string did not cause any arm issues at all. I played with this set up for 6 hours of singles hitting, and it was very comfortable, but not mushy, but a comfortable moderate crisp feel. The string snapped at 6th hour of singles, due to overhead mis hit. , but it was very comfortable during the entire play test.

  • Spin Although I am old school flat style hitter, there was no issues to place spin when needed.

  • Playability Duration (did it lose playability over time?) String played very nice for the 6 hours it lasted. If there was any reduction in playability, I did not notice. As mentioned above string snapped at 6th hour from mis hit.

  • Durability (did it notch? -get stuck out of position?) At the 6th hour when it snapped from mis hit, I then noticed only slight notching, nothing major. If the string did not break, it would have lasted a great deal longer before any serious notching would have been evident.

  • Tension findings (would you string it at a different tension on your next try? Why?)
  • With the comfort and control, I would have kept the same as I did at 47 lbs.

  • Additional comments (optional)
  • Very nice hitting poly string. Very much a control string. I am going to order some and try it as a cross string with my klip gut I normally hit with. No doubt that I would expect to give me more added control, and still be a comfortable hit. For the price point of this string, and how it played, tourna has a winner with this one. Thanks for play test!

Hello everyone, here is my review of Tourna Premium Poly 17 string. Thank you to @TW Staff for this opportunity. It is much appreciated. Hope my review is helpful.

  • Color received: Green
  • Tension(s) used for playtest: 50
  • Regular string set up: Kirschbaum Max Power Rough 16 gauge/ Solinco Tour Bite Diamond Rough 16g (but as of late the max power rough is my go to)
  • Racquet used for test: Wilson blade 98 v8 (16x19)

  • Control/Power:
I didn’t need to step closer or farther from my usual striking range behind the baseline when I started playing with it.There was just the right amount of power and control when the ball was struck on center, but any slight deviation from the sweet spot would cause the ball to fly off of the court. (first hour) After the second hour of hitting and on, I finally got used to the ball pocketing and found that this string had a lot of power that I could inject into the ball without losing control and causing the ball to go out.

  • Feel (Stiff? Mushy? Muted? Crisp? Comfortable?):
The string was surprisingly comfortable although the packaging stated that comfortability was its weakest category. There was no need to start off slow with the racket during warm up as the feel and pocketing of the string was exquisite. It provided a slightly muted response, and it seemed extremely comfortable, though it is not my preferred string type as I prefer a crispier response but i soon learned why Tourna listed the comfortability of the string as it’s lowest rating due to the fact that hitting off center did in fact send an uncomfortable shock to my wrists. To me, the string felt stiff only when I hit off center. (first hour) However, that could be seen as more of a skill problem than a knock on the string quality. The second hour of hitting time and on, I found that going for big flat shots would consistently give me a muted response. Once again, I generally prefer a more lively crisp response when I want to hit a big shot, but the response from the string was acceptable here too.

  • Spin:
I thought that I would get less spin than my max power rough since this is a power/control string, but the drop in spin was almost negligible. Though I couldn’t hit a penetrating topspin as casually as usual, the topspin had more height than usual so it was a compromise that I could accept. (first hr) This stayed consistent throughout my time with the string. I could naturally create topspin that jumped up, but not through the court. However, by swinging faster than normal, I managed to recreate the topspin that would jump at my opponent rather than just up.

  • Playability Duration (did it lose playability over time?):
I have hit with the string for about 7 hours in total, but I’ve had the string for 2 weeks and counting now. I found that the string’s feel, response, spin, and pocketing have maintained consistency throughout the bed these 2 weeks. The tension of the strings may have gotten slightly lower which could be partially why I’m starting to hit bigger shots with this racket alongside better timing and technique.

  • Durability (did it notch? -get stuck out of position?):
The strings haven’t gotten stuck out of position but it has begun to notch. Normally, I break 17 gauges in about a month and the level of notching seems to be consistent with that pattern so far.

  • Tension findings (would you string it at a different tension on your next try? Why?):
50lbs seems to be a perfect tension for me, but I might string 2lbs lower for more access to power right off the bat, as the balls I hit are so easy to control, so it might be possible that the control I sacrifice will be minimal and I will be able to hit bigger shots quicker without waiting for natural tension loss.

  • Additional comments (optional):
It’s a great string to hit with, but I would definitely be even more excited if there were to be a rough version of this string. Due to the fact that I have a grip in between a eastern and a semi-western, it isn’t as easy to generate a large amount of topspin so I tend to compensate by buying spin type strings.

Got to hit with it today for the first time and I'm very impressed with this string for the price. Excited to see how the playability changes because it played great fresh off the stringer

Review for Tourna Premium Poly 17 string.

Color Received:
Green. A nice darker color green similar to the green flexbar in hue. Looks neat in a black racquet.

Tension(s) used for playtest:
48 lbs full bed. Stringway fixed clamp drop weight.

Regular string set up:
I am currently getting over some tennis elbow and have been using Prince Premier Control at 52 lbs. I also play regularly with Ashaway Crossfire, Crossfire ZX, and Prince Diablo Pro / Tour XC 16L.

Racquet used for playtest:
2018 Prince 93p. I used this because it is easy to determine how much power a string provides and it is soft for mild arm issues.

Control/Power:
Significantly more power than anticipated. First hits reminded me of Prince Diablo. Control was middle of the road for polyester. Flat shots were good as were most, nothing pops out at me as this string being above or below average for control. I never fully adjusted to how much power there was vs what I was expecting to come off the string. A solid middle of the road polyester experience in this regard

Feel (Stiff? Mushy? Muted? Crisp? Comfortable?):
Definitely on the side of comfortable poly strings in terms of feel. No crisp / high tension multi feel here. A little muted in the center. Unfortunately, off-center hits were more jarring than the feel would have let on. When I made good contact, the ball pocketed nicely, and I got that poly feel of better contact then syn gut. A slight disconnect from what I expected vs what I felt on different shots. Again, a solid middle of the road polyester for feel and comfort.

Spin:
Spin was good. Not an insult to the string, just about what you would expect for a standard round poly. That is to say way more spin than a multi, spin was good. I did have trouble keeping the ball in on topspin shots because of the power and resorted to flatter hitting which is more conducive the chosen racquet. Plentiful spin if you can increase the whip. A solid middle of the road polyester for spin.

Playability Durability (did it lose playability over time?):
I played for 12 hours with the string and it is notching less than competing strings. Strings still snaps back into place. Tension drop has seemed a little more uniform than other strings. Rather than a large dropoff in initial playability it seemed to taper gradually over time. After 12 hours I am looking to restring to get a more playable response.

Durability (did it notch? - get stuck out of position?):
I doubt I would ever break this string in a dense 18x20 before the playability was lost. Difficult to compare the notching on the 17 gauge but I do think it is less than other 17 gauge strings. Nothing was getting stuck out of position. Was very happy with the tension drop over time.

Tension findings (would you string it at a different tension on your next try? Why?):
48 lbs was too low for me in the 93p. Based on the string I might try 50 but because of the off center response I would not go above that and would rather seek a 16g version or a hybrid to gain the control I wanted.

Additional comments (optional):
String was nice to hit with. Reminds me prince diablo which seems to be gaining fanfare in some racquets. This would be an excellent string for hybrids due to its consistency over time.

An all-around middle of the road poly in terms of comfort, spin, power, and playability. Good in all areas without special strengths or weakness. At the price this is a fantastic value.

Thanks for the first playtest

TOURNA Premium Poly Playtest
  • To provide a little background, I am a 4.5 player who hits very flat balls. I'd say I'm an aggressive baseliner with a two handed backhand. I'm currently using the Head Graphene 360+ Speed Pro (18x20 string pattern) and generally hit shots with a low trajectory that often clip the net. I generally use soft polys (mains) and multis (crosses) in a hybrid. I want to thank Tennis Warehouse for allowing me to playtest this string!
    • What color are you reviewing?
      • Black
    • Tension(s) used for playtest
      • 56 lbs - I think this was the sweet spot for me. I had a perfect balance of power and control at this tension. Stringing the tourna poly was easy and quick as the string has a glossy texture that allows it to slide easily
    • Regular string set up
      • My string set up changes but have mostly consisted of Poly Tour Pro (Mains at 56 lbs) and a variety of multifilaments (NRG, X1 Biphase, wilson sensation, velocity crosses at 58lbs). I don't usually go for full poly because of the lack of feel and the occasional wrist pain, but this playtest had me rethinking about going back to full poly
    • Control/Spin
      • The package markets this string as controlled power and I can really see that after hitting with this string. I was hitting harder than ever with this string and I felt that I was hitting balls in a lot more than I usually do. I'd say this string puts a decent amount of spin on the ball for being a round poly. It doesn't bite like Hyper G or anything but to me, it was an adequate amount to where my shots would drop in at the baseline. At 56 lbs, I really enjoyed the control aspect. I felt like I had more room for error on my groundstrokes and didn't need to hit a perfect shot to get the ball in. My returns were also coming back to the baseline and I was hitting the return more consistently. On top of that, my serve also had a noticeable change with this string. I was able to pin point the serve more accurately than I had been able to with my hybrid set ups. I don't normally get aces on my 4.5 friends because I have a more spinny/consistent serve but I was able to paint the lines with this string and averaged about 3-4 aces a set
    • Power
      • I personally felt that this was a medium-high powered string. I say that because after going from poly tour pro mains/multi crosses, I noticed a huge power boost on my serve and ground strokes. It was almost night and day for my serve as I was able to put a lot more pace on the serve with this string. This wasn't something that I was expecting to see out of a poly, but I think it was the control aspect of this string that allowed me to hit harder and allowing me more room for error on my ground strokes.
    • Feel (Stiff? Mushy? Muted? Crisp? Comfortable?)
      • This string is a comfortable poly in my opinion. I generally have soreness when using stiffer polys and I wasn't really getting that soreness with this string. However, after playing with it for 5 out of 7 days of the week, I did get some wrist/shoulder soreness at the end of the week after playing several hours those days. So the pain did eventually catch up to me, but at the same time, I probably just overdid it. So ultimately, I think if you do have issues with tennis elbow, you could try lowering the tension, or try this in a hybrid. I really didn't feel any arm issues until several days after playing with this string so I'm not very worried with using the string in a full bed setup again in the future
    • Playability Duration (did the string lose playability over time?)
      • To echo off of what some of the other playtesters were saying, I didn't notice a huge drop off in playability and it was more of a gradual drop. Even after 10 hours of hitting, I didn't really notice much so compared to other polys, the playability duration is top notch. In terms of actual string durability, it's what you would expect from the average poly. I did have some notching after several hours of playtesting, but it looks like this poly would last me at least a month of hitting 3 days a week (usually break multi crosses within 4-5 days of hitting)
    • Tension findings (would you use a different tension next time? Why?)
      • As mentioned above, I think I hit the sweetspot with 56 lbs. I had a great amount of power and the control needed to keep my shots in. I'd be curious to see how this string pairs up with a multi in a hybrid because for the price, I think this is a really great string.
    • Overall
      • I really enjoyed this playtest. I wasn't expecting much from the string because of the price point but I was really surprised at how this string performed. I could see myself switching to this string because of the value alone. I'm actually going to use this string as my budget poly (switching from topspin cyberflash) for customers because I enjoyed it so much and I think a lot of those that are looking for a cheaper string but needing that control will love this string. The price itself is cheap enough for anyone to grab a pack and test it out for themselves. Also, for stringers, this string was very easy to string. No problems with weaving the crosses as the slick texture allowed the string to slide easily

@Crimsonchen
-good write up (y)
-you've hit on a few points i am also finding, (while playtesting this string)
-you mentioned TOPSPIN brand, would you say this string (T.premium.poly) to be similar to T.cyber.BLUE? (do you know that one?), or way different?,
-im thinking they might be very close in feel,, but i could be wrong?!?!

-btw, i would consider stringing FB poly on your racquet at 51 or 52lbs
-thats a tight pattern stick to be going 58lbs FB poly,, my joints hurt just reading you tell it :giggle: (y)

Shoot, I've only used topspin cyberflash (which I love as a budget string and recommended it for my customers looking to save money) but now I'll have to try out cyber blue next lol i think the Cyberflash is more comfy than this string but the tension maintenance is better with the tourna poly.

Judging from the twu string tool, it looks like cyber blue (183) is stiffer than Cyberflash (159), so without having to hit with cyber blue, I think that 183 is close with the tourna premium poly in 17 g. I'm going to add cyber blue to my list of strings to test as I haven't had a chance to try out too many strings since I just switched to the Speed Pro

-here is a playtest i ran on some similar strings, if you are interested

Definitely interested, thanks! Gonna check it out now

First off, thank you very much Tennis Warehouse and Tourna for allowing me to participate in this playtest. It was great analyzing a string I have never used before.

A little about me, I am a 4.0 player who used to play all singles but now plays mostly doubles while coming back from a knee injury. I play a baseline game of controlling the point and moving my opponent around.

Color received: White, 17g
Tension(s) used for playtest: 52 pounds
Regular string set up: I typically use a hybrid of RPM Blast 17 and Gosen OG Micro 16. My most recent full beds of poly have been Hawk 17, Poly Air 16L, Sonic Pro 17, and Confidential 16.
Racquet used for test: Head Microgel Radical MP
Control/Power
: This is always the aspect I am looking for the most. Using a MG Radical, it is control oriented and low flex. I like strings that enhance the control but still give me a little power to aid the frame. I never had an issue with overhitting or the ball going off on it's own. This string behaved much like the Sonic Pro does when I string it up as a full bed. It also feels similar when stringing it with the same texture on the outside, just more malleable when stringing. The packaging indicates it is all control, and it matches up well to other strings that advertise the same.
Feel (Stiff? Mushy? Muted? Crisp? Comfortable?): String was overall comfortable in my Radical. Once again, this string reminds me of Sonic Pro or Poly Tour Pro. No harsh feeling hitting outside of the sweetspot, which happens more than I care to admit with the 95 sq in head. It is absolutely not mushy or muted and I would classify it more on the crisp but comfortable side of the spectrum.
Spin: Compared to other round polys, this offers just as much spin. I believe it would actually pair extremely well in the crosses with a spin oriented shaped string in the mains if you care to have a poly/poly hybrid. I plan to order more sets to test in place of my usual OG Micro with the RPM Blast.
Playability Duration (did it lose playability over time?): I had this string in my racquet for 3 weeks. Played twice a week, all doubles. Once again, I noted that this string is very "middle of the pack" in terms of playability. It did liven up after the first two sets and I really gelled with it for about two weeks. The last match I played I could feel it more in my arm which means it was time to come out. I do want to mention that although I started feeling some pain in my arm, the playability was still there and fitter, stronger players could probably have got a few more hours out of the strings.
Durability (did it notch? -get stuck out of position?): No notching. The Radical is a tight 18x20 so this is not something I experience except for multis. The slick coating on the string allowed for great movement throughout the entire playtest.
Tension findings (would you string it at a different tension on your next try? Why?): I personally would keep the string at 52 pounds. This is my typical tension and the string played very predictably to what I like. Couldn't ask for anything more in that regard.
Additional comments (optional): I have to admit, I was quite shocked and pleased with the result of using this string. I have typically been a brand snob when it comes to strings and had never looked heavily at Tourna. I am aware of the love for Big Hitter 7 and after using their "budget" string, I will try more in their line. For the overall playability of this string, there is no doubt it is one of the best values on the market today for $5 for a set. The offering of 4 different colors with a very unique green is a bonus.

  • Color received: Yellow
  • Tension(s) used for playtest: 48 lbs
  • Regular string set up: Solinco Confidential 17 at 48 lbs
  • Racquet used for test: HEAD Gravity MP
  • Control/Power:
    • Didn't seem to provide a lot of control but does give plenty of power and force on the ball. I hit everything wayfaster and with a lot more depth in the court when using this string compared to using others.
  • Feel (Stiff? Mushy? Muted? Crisp? Comfortable?):
    • Feels very comfortable. I think this string is geared to be a comfortable poly so it definitely succeeds in that area. I recommend this string to anyone who has had arm problems in the past as it can allow you to get plenty of power without injuring yourself.
  • Spin:
    • Really didn’t provide very much spin and balls were hit way flatter with this string than with any others. A solid tradeoff for people who need power because you sacrifice a decent amount in terms of spin in order to gain more power.
  • Playability Duration (did it lose playability over time?):
    • I’ve noticed quite a bit of notching after just 4 or 5 hours. Given that I hit the ball pretty hard, I can expect that but I saw nothing after 4 or 5 hours and then about 2 hours later the strings just died so I had to cut them out.
  • Durability (did it notch? -get stuck out of position?):
    • As I mentioned in the last section, I am seeing major notching after 5 hours and the strings died soon after. I ended up cutting them out of my racket because they were so bad..
  • Tension findings (would you string it at a different tension on your next try? Why?):
    • I might string it a bit tighter next time in order to try to get more control and to rein in my shots a little more. I think the shots I was hitting with this string were way bigger than my normal ones just due to the nature of the string.
  • Additional comments (optional):
    • Overall, I’m not a big fan of the string as it really doesn’t last very long. I enjoyed the string while it lasted but I didn’t have enough time with a live string to enjoy it that much. It died after a day or two of normal training. Felt really comfortable overall but I would change it to provide a bit more spin and control.
