Please cease putting French Open results in the subject line

Please dont put results of matches in the subject line..if it is that important your voice be heard about results that are easily found online elsewhere, please put the results in the body of your post and note that your post is a SPOILER or something apropriate like that. There are people in the US and other places watching the matches on ESPN that wish to enjoy watching the tennis without knowing the results beforehand. Thankyou. Ed

If someone does not want to know the match results before the match has been telecast on ESPN then it would seem the simple solution is avoid this particular message board during the French Open or any other tournament that one wishes not to see scores from.

I agree. You can still see the other boards. But prevention goes farther than anything else. My guess is that posters that post spoilers are the same people that hog the left lanes on America's highways. I'm calming down now.

because it's exactly what chad said.

courtesy. People come to these boards to talk tennis, NOT just for seeing results of tournaments. No one is saying that you can't post results, but for crying out loud don't make it the title of the thread.....

Why should a person even have to do THAT? It would seem that the SIMPLE SOLUTION is to stop being an inconsiderate and childish a-hole and not post results, OR, if you absolutey MUST post results, (as if you have some kind of "scoop"), write a subject line like "Agassi-John Doe Roland Garros SPOILER". That way, people may merely avoid reading your idiotic post, rather than the entire Board.

This argument has been posted time and time again. It's getting old. People are not going to stop putting scores and results in the headlines. Deal with it, Phil and Co.

I agree about the comments re courtesy. But you have folks here in different time zones, and from different countries, and they may not always realize that what they have seen live, won't be shown in the U.S. for hours later. And vice versa.

But IF I didn't want to know a score before seeing it on TV, I wouldn't check any internet site that would potentially post tennis sports scores. I mean, Agassi's loss made headline news where you would least expect it. So a post here, where you would most expect it, would hardly be a surprise.

I'm with you all the way, Ed.

There are a few people who put results in titles out of a simple ignorance - and once it is explained to them why this is not a good thing, they cease the annoying practice. Others, however, continue to post results within titles long after they have been first asked, and then told not to - as if simply out of spite and/or to feed their need for attention.

I have for a long time espoused this particular common courtesy/common sense on these boards. What I have come to realize is that there are a number of people who are either too selfish to consider others, or too stupid to understand that not posting results in the title does not mean that one cannot post the results in the body of the post, as Ed mentions. Many people still do not understand this very simple distinction, and think that we're asking them to NEVER post ANY results ANYWHERE on these boards. Heaven help these unfortunate people.

After careful and deliberate consideration, I have come to the irrefutable conclusion that there is no need whatsoever to post results within the title.

To claim simply that one should not come to these boards if one does not wish to know a result is akin to saying that black people, or males with long hair, shouldn't go for walks at night if they don't want to be harassed by the police. Of course, that is a more extreme and serious example - but the concept is the same: the innocent party should allow the offending party the power to control the circumstances, as well as their behavior. Obviously, this is not acceptable to self-respecting people.

These boards are not a news agency. Nor are we in a race with any news agency to see who can post results first. I would say that 100% of the people who read these boards are perfectly aware of many means by which the desired results can be obtained. The only reason for posting results within the titles here is to demonstrate one's lack of consideration for others.

I am "dealing with it", NYU; my way of dealing with it is to inform people who post results in the subject line that they are inconsiderate a-holes for doing so. If we all took the advice of college pukes like you, whose answer to a large number of issues is "deal with it", i.e. ignore it/live with it/do nothing, then NOTHING would get done and the a-holes wouldn't REALIZE that that's what they are. At least, now, they know...

A lot of people tape the live ESPN broadcast matches to watch later when they get home from work. We do not want to know the results before we've had a chance to watch the tape delayed matches. Thank you.
