PLEASE Federer help to increase prize money for low-ranked players!

Low-ranked players in tennis are in continuous financial struggle to play tennis and somebody has to fix this problem for the good.

Apparently Federer got upset because ATP refused a prize money increase to sustain early round losers in Indian Wells.

The problems was already raised for Wimbledon and it seems that the prize money increase helped a lot lower ranked players.

In fact, players losing in qualifying and first round received £14,500.

I think this is essential to develop the sport.

Janowicz was so much fun.

Tennis isn't about the players. It's about the profit margin. Like any other business. Rogi has made a point. Let's see if it holds any weight as he winds his career down. For the sake of the sport, I hope so.

Didn't they already increase the prize money for the first rounds? I thought it was in the Australion Open?

Don't know if it will apply to all majors, but the Australian Open was boosted.

Federer meaning business as usual and achieving results.

That is how the President of the Player's Council should behave.

Good, that he is not susceptible to infantile b****ing.

Federer has my full support with this. Players a few hundred places down the rankings need more financial stability. It will help tennis as a whole.

Federer is a waste of space....

Davydenko weighs in on 'perfect' Federer
AFP | Jan 16, 2012, 11.39AM IST

MELBOURNE: Russia's Nikolay Davydenko said on Monday that "perfect" Roger Federer was distancing himself from problems in the men's game, weighing in after Rafael Nadal's surprise broadside against the Swiss.

Nadal criticised Federer on the eve of the Australian Open, claiming the 16-time Grand Slam title winner should be doing more to support growing complaints over the professional tour. Nadal has long advocated changes to the playing schedule and last year said strike action could not be ruled out. On Sunday, the world number two said Federer, the ATP Player Council president, needs to support his colleagues.

And Davydenko, speaking after his five-set defeat to Flavio Cipolla in the first round on Monday, agreed that Federer was not taking a leading role over the issues at stake. "I don't know why Roger doesn't support players. I don't know why. Because he doesn't do any problems. He's a nice guy," the Russian said. "He's from Switzerland. He's perfect. He don't want to do anything. He just tried to be outside from this one," he added.

"But he was sitting in the (players') meeting (on Saturday). He just listened to everything and I think Sunday was meeting the top four guys. I don't know what happened there."

The Russian, who has slipped to 52 in the world rankings, said it was important for the players to have the backing from the likes of world number one Novak Djokovic and Nadal. "For sure Federer doesn't want to do anything because he doesn't want to make any strike or something. Nadal, Djokovic is with the other players, the top 100 players," Davydenko said.

Players met new men's tour chief Brad Drewett in Melbourne on Saturday and are reportedly unhappy over Davis Cup scheduling and their share of prize money at the grand slam tournaments, among other issues. In his unexpected outburst against long-time rival Federer, Nadal told Spanish media in Melbourne: "It's easy to say I do not say anything, everything is positive and I stay 'a gentleman' while others burn.

"We each have our opinion and perhaps he likes the circuit. I like it too and it is better than the majority of sports. But that does not mean it can't be better and that things which are bad cannot be changed."

Try doing something for the ATP...other than following Nadal ideals like a puppet.

I don't think your country will allow you to tarnish it's Image when you talk about your own Ideals for ATP.

Which you apparently don't have appart from your constant abuse of Federer shortcoming. Maybe if you didn't fail so much to look at the good of Federer just as much as you do for Nadal, maybe we would not need to squelch our heads of you.

I forgive you...may you see the light.

I'm losing my faith in the management of this sport. The Big 4 don't need hundred thousand dollar bonuses, and if you spread that kind of money out among the early-round losers, it would be much better for tennis.

This would be a very good idea. It's absolutely ridiculous that only players in the top 200 or so are in positive territory when you consider their income minus total expenses. In addition, they only have a window of a few years to make that happen on the Tour after devoting much of their lives to become great players. To encourage more players to take that financial risk, you have to make the sport more financially viable for players outside of the top 100.

So it's Fed's responsibility to cure the ATP's alleged problems. Too funny. A lot of great spenders of other people's money on these boards.

These guys all know the risks. And by playing on Tour they are marketing themselves for future gigs in the Tennis industry. Don't think so short term.

He's accepted a leadership position and he wants to do his bit for the lower ranked players, so that's as good an example of leadership as you would find these days.

Some people think the declining oxygen levels from all the mass deforestation and acidification of the oceans destroying the oceans phytoplankton concentration worldwide over the past centuries is leading to impaired cognitive fuctioning compared to our forbearers.

What effect would that have on leadership now days?

The brutal money machine instigated by wilson is stealing food out of the mouths of talented tennis babies and shamelessly channeling all the loot into offshore accounts in Switzerland and the Middle-East.
