Poll: Penalties for players who disregard Covid-19 rules during ATP Tour suspension

What penalties should the ATP impose to deter players from acting irresponsibly?

  • Lifetime ban - Covid has killed over half a million people, a few tennis careers pale by comparison.

  • 1 year ban - Get the tour back up and running without these idiots, then welcome them back in.

  • Do nothing - Despite shutting the entire tour down to reduce the spread of infection by tennis.

  • Put them in charge - They have shown great leadership in these difficult times and know best.

With Nick Kyrgios now the responsible voice of the ATP Tour, it's clear something is not right and leadership needs to act.

I suggested this on the other thread, while Djokovic was stupid, Zverev is just being blatant and not following rules. He should be punished when the tour resumes. They need penalties for their actions and hopefully it'll deter others. A year is a bit much but a couple months definitely.
novak should not be able to compete in majors in 2020 and til Olympics next year. He can play the Olympics. That is my judgement

I'm not sure what the point of penalizing them would be. Punishment doesn't really stop bad behavior; it merely incentivizes being more covert.

Besides, no ban would hold up in court.

No.
They could be punished by the law of the country where they commited the "crime", if they broke any regulations.
In order to do any sort of "punishement", ATP would have to come up with their own regulations and publish them. I'm not too sure they legally can impose anything on players, outside of tournaments, though.

Let us see who voted for what. I see 4 saying they are showing leadership. Embarrassing. They should not be punished by the ATP but should receive the criticism through the media and social platforms, that is how they learn.

If you ran a multi-million dollar organisation and had to shut it down to be responsible and not spread Coronavirus and your own (very senior) members flouted your shutdown by setting up an alternate organisation and engaged in your activity of business and did all things you tried to avoid by shutting down, infecting people and threatening your ability to reopen, you'd take no action against those members? You don't own a business, do you?

Run-on sentence killed my patient. Couldn't really understand what you said here.

Has the ATP told the players anything? Any notice at all?

They shut the entire tour down and proposed a bunch of strict conditions to be met "if" their tour starts back up. That pretty clearly says, we can't be doing these things.

Meanwhile, a bunch of dumb-arses went and arranged an alternative tour with zero conditions and it turned into a clusterfu(k that threatens to derail the ATP's resumption.

I think if you are taking Kyrgios seriously on anything, somebody has been sneaking crack cocaine in your food and drinks.

Mandatory counseling and a 24/7 ankle bracelet only to be removed for practice and match play until the shrink says the offender is rehabilitated.
