With Sinner out, Alcaraz and Djokovic being a little less consistent, could be an interesting Sunshine Double this year with potential new titleists.

Djokovic has to prove he should be contender first. He is at such a situation that I consider him top 3 players today and still don't consider him a favorite after Sinner is out.

He needs to prove he can win many matches in a row. Vs good players..

Honestly predicting carnage and starting to think that both of them won’t win.

Hope I’m wrong and Alcaraz does the double but feel like this is gonna be just a weird two tournaments.

Gonna go random and say an American (but not Fritz) to win Miami and then Indian Wells something maybe like Med or Zverev.

Some are saying Djokovic might withdraw from IW but there are others who are saying Andy Murray is flying to California today.

So former might be rumors.

I don't think Djokovic really cares about these tournaments anymore. They are meaningless for him. 1st goal was AO, 2nd goal is RG and maybe perform well in one of the clay Masters before RG. I think he'll be in tourist mode just like last year in IW. Doesn't mean he has 0 chance to win though, specially if the surface is more like in the US Open... it may suit his game better. But no surprise if he loses in Round 1 or 2. His fans have zerp expectation. 1 more IW isn't going to change anything for him, he already has the M1000 record and the triple mandatory Masters.

For me Alcaraz wins 1 and the other one will be an upset.

I don't know. I think he will care. But such a poor loss to Matteo. He is not in good form at all..

If he wins Miami, he can overtake Andre Agassi there. I don't care much about iw as alcaraz will likely score 6th some day. But Miami can be noles forever..

If Sinner was present, what do you think would’ve happened?

I think any notion about him caring for the Miami record went out the window last year when he skipped it.

No doubt no doubt. He totally skipped a tournament in March that he hadn't played in years anyway because he had another tourny to play in August.
Thank you even if you dial up sarcasm to 200% i would not budge.

Djokovic will gladly sacrifice these MM tournaments for him at this point for a gold. I wanted him to even sacrifice wimbledon to get that gold. Thankfully the wimby run did just help not hamper the preparation.

one goal, OG

Djoko is still good enough to be right there when other players stumble. I don't think there's one player I would pick to beat him 10 out of 10 times.

But that doesn't matter. He is flopping vs the tour as a whole even if he can beat them all.

The last year he has had losses to freaking nardi, ruud, tabillo, machac, popyrin, opelka and berrettini

these are not even in competition for slams. Maybe ruud at rg but that would be lowest contendership

We can chalk that up to him not being interested in much aside from the appearance fees

Since the start of 2020 he has only lost before the QF twice at Slams....that is twice in 5 full seasons

I don't think that anybody will win the Sunshine Double by himself this year, even though I'd like to see Alcaraz pull this off. This is perhaps something that Sinner can do in the future. It'd surprise me if he doesn't pull off the double.

ATP Sunshine Doubles:

Courier 1991
Chang 1992
Sampras 1994
Rios 1998
Agassi 2001
Federer 2005, 2006, 2017
Djokovic 2011, 2014, 2015 2016

Crazy that Fed did it when he was 35

Djoko hasn't done it since his age-30 season

Wow, Nole did 3 of his 4 Sunsine Doubles adding the AO of those years on top, and Fed did the same with 2 of his 3.
