By "before" I don't mean minutes before a match. That would be a disaster for the appendix. I mean maybe an hour or more before.

EDIT: I mistakenly put "match" in the title, but like it doesn't have to be a match. If you are doing like 90+ minutes of drills or hard hitting, mini games, king of the court, it would count as a pretty high intensity activity.

Some posters may have had their appendix removed.

Btw, how does having your appendix removed affect digestion?

Carb loading, say the night before a match is beneficial, but for the duration of my matches (less than 2 hours), no calories I consume an hour before playing is going to make a whit of difference in the outcome. Fluid, yes. Calories, no.

So definitely more eating after playing, for protein uptake.

I usually do eat not earlier than 1-1.5h before, and prefer to eat soon after, at least get a sandwich.

Well, I overall eat a lot, don’t stay hungry for more than 2-2.5h :p

I don’t like eating closer than 2 hours before a match unless it’s extremely light. It may just be in my head but I really feel good in my stomach while I’m playing.

I play a big tournament every year where I play a ton of matches. This year I played 1 singles Friday, 2 singles / 3 dubs Saturday and 1 singles/2 dubs Sunday. Friday evening after my first match I had a thai curry. On Saturday I had no breakfast, first match at 9am. I drank coconut water and had a clif bar during the first match. Later I had two bananas and a 6 inch subway sandwich. At 11:30 pm when I got back after my last match I had a few slices of vegan pizza.

Intermittent fasting and being fat adapted means no eating before morning matches

I usually eat something moderately light 40-60 mins before a match or tennis session. I tend to burn calories fairly quick, so I can't risk running low on energy.

A tennis session can range between 1 to 2 hours long for me.

But after tennis is done, I usually eat whatever and however much I feel like. lol

I try to eat breakfast, lunch and dinner at my normal times and sometimes it is before tennis, sometimes it is after tennis. I try not to eat within a full meal within a hour of the start of the match.

You need to add a beer into the mix
