Not gonna put a date on it, but I will say this. Many injuries get overrated because they can heal up, and the frequency of smaller injuries gets overrated.

I think currently it completely depends on the severity of the hip injury. If he can't get fit for Roland Garros, he may call it. If he does get fit by mud season, he'll just soldier on probably

Don't be too cocky

Reality is that he isn’t losing in FO till 2030. The tour doesn’t have 1 clay courter at par with Nadal and whoever rises is punished by Rafa. Thiem was only one chance for the tour to win. But he too is a shadow of himself now.

Alcaraz is off since his breakout 2022. Djokovic got his 2021 glory there and now more focus is his primary 2 slams at this age. So ya, RG title is in the bag for a loong looong time

I don't get into all the big 3 debate stuff that occurs out here. I like Fed and I like Nadal. While I would enjoy seeing Fed playing some dubs if he could I think Nadal should stop playing now and focus on his family and the other stuff in his life. As we all know he plays a different style of tennis and his body is finished and can no longer take the pounding he puts it through. I can't see him making his way through any best of 5 draw so why bother.

After the Olympics in Paris. Maybe after an injury excuse on why he lost to Alcaraz or Djokovic:happydevil:

No idea to be honest. Unless you are his doctor or in the inner sanctum of the Nadal family how can you know.
What we do know is last year despite the 2 GS titles his body appeared pretty chopped up. It’s a question of how hard is one prepared to keep going and what are the possible consequences of playing on, to your body and immune system?
Once those joints suffer from structural changes you are going to have problems for the rest of your life so you have to put that into consideration. I would imagine his daily rehab and strengthening program would be pretty extensive.
The tricky thing about all this is that age 36 you have potentially reached this situation where having an extended break to fix your body up is not going to help for some types of injuries because your body seizes up and when you start up again you can do a lot more damage. The flip side is that you don’t take a break and try to recover while playing but then your body is in a state of tendonosis, and possible synovitus which hangs around. And finally you can’t keep relying on anti inflammatories.

I would said next year, but I see it happening after the US Open this year now .. These injuries are constant now and its too much to overcome at this point. Now that he has a kid, he'll be gone by year end.

He'll retire whenever he decides it's time.

My feeling is, RG25 will be his last event.
Will Nadal last that long?
It already seems very difficult for him to reach that date, although it would be iconic if he could retire there 20 years after his unstoppable rise.

He will possibly win either this year's RG or next year's RG, one of the 2, then he will have a very bad 2025 RG and possibly after it he will announce it or maybe he will try one more time in 2026 as his last attempt. So possibly 2025 or 2026 will be his last hurrah.

He will want to attempt French Open win 20 years after his first, so 2025 attempt is definetly on cards.

Best believe Nadal wants to win that RG25 title. So my guess is he will also play Wimbledon and USO that year as well.

If Nadal gets to play RG 2025, that would be his last tournament of his career.
There is nothing beyond there for him.

Rafa understands how popular he is. He wouldn't just pull the plug. One last trip to Wimbledon and USO is the fair thing to do.

I could potentially see Rafa only playing localish clay tournaments in 2024 and beyond. I think if he worked on keeping healthy, staying clay ready he could potentially win RG through 2026. But if he’s going to be killing himself at 2024 AO, the sunshine double, and then heading off to clay time? He ain’t gonna win that rg or the subsequent. I think his best bet to not lose the slam race is hope Novak loses AO, US and for himself to keep winning RG and only RG

I know many make fun of that, but Nadal will have one last chance at Wimbledon 2023, after all, apart from Joker there is no one who excels on that surface.
