since Djokovic is out and all we have left are "young" players, who'd you most like to win it, despite the undeserving conditions?

Thiem. He has had several opportunities but against toughest possible competition so now it's time for him to bag one. He really has no excuse now. He is looking good, he has the experience, and it's time now. Anything else would be a travesty. I'm hoping for him.

Thiem, Medvedev and Zverev are all fine. On the other hand, Coric winning would be a total disaster for the game.

You mean the guy who owns Djokovic in slams? I'd say such a player deserves a slam. ;)

But if seriously, he is still better than Coric. (who should never be in the tournament now, it was some totally CRAZY choke from Tsitsipas in the third round)

But he is still in the tournament. He kept on fighting (most players would just fold and give free points at that point).

Coric is part of next gen, and would be better that he won rather then PCB. PCB is pretty dull tbh.

Thiem has already paid his dues, so to speak. I hope it's not someone random like Shapo or Coric who would have zero chance if Novak was still in the draw.

Tim or Zod

Zod has plenty of time to win slams so maybe Tim

It would be catastrophic for Thiem / Med / Zverev not to win. A demonstration of frontrunning NextGen players' inability of winning at this stage, when the stage is almost entirely set for them.

I went for Med but could easily have been Thiem. Both of them have been making Finals and no disgrace to lose to Nadal and Djokovic.

I wonder if @Meles would back Tim or Zod
Medvedev likes to play the war of attrition game but against some players it does not work so well as they wear him out; see Joe Cavitch. he has a much flatter and efficient ground strokes than tim, but at the same time not the same raw stamina. we can't rule out the top half because either in their quarterfinal or semifinal could be greatly damaged even if they win the match.

Just because Medvedev and Thiem have been in a slam final or two doesnt mean they deserve to win USO.
Med definitely deserved to win USO last year. He was in great form, had great mental strength, was barely outplayed in the fifth set.

Of course this doesn't mean he deserves it this year. He needs to actually win it.

I really feel that Med is just toying around and taking it easy to be fresh. He will turn it up starting tomorrow.

I feel like Nadal could have closed it out in straights, but credit to Medvedev for pushing him to 5. He looks good this year and I'd say he's the favorite atm.

Well, there are a lot of matches which Nadal could have won much easier than he did. Wimbledon 2008 final is a standard example. Also, in RG 2011 and 2012 finals he was 2-0 and a break up, then lost the third set. In RG 2013 he had great chances in each of the first 4 sets but won only 2. And a lot more such examples.
So given that him missing a good chance in USO 2019 final wasn't that surprising. He lost focus for a moment and many people thought he will still win easy. But Med did a good job and fully punished him.

As for this year, he looks good, but there are other good players as well. Thiem also looks in good form.

Thiem, Med, Zverev and Shapo in that order. Would be ok with either of them winning.

Zverev, please take out Coric. He is good, but not slam winning material.

Coric has been surprisingly good. But Tsitsipas really made an arse of himself that day.

Zverev as a slam champ would be awful.

Please, let it be Thiem or Medvedev!

Zverev-Thiem final, either would be acceptable. My prediction is Med tho.

I don't think Zverev as a slam champ would be awful. His resume outside the slams is good enough to warrant him a slam title.
