Poly back to Multi...Who's coming with me??

Fletch

Rookie
I have been playing with all kinds of poly strings for the last 4 or 5 years or so, its been good. Then I played with some demo rackets with multi in them and really liked it. The feel was great, I DO actually have a drop shot, my arm felt great, not that it ever felt bad and over all it was a good experience. I am thinking of making this my string of choice.
I have to try:
NRG
X-One
Xcel Power
and was thinking of buying NXT
(any other suggestions?)

Has anyone else gone back to multi after a long stint with poly?

This might just be me, but I actually feel the opposite to most on these boards, I would have to string the poly about 5 lbs tighter to get the same string bed stiffness.

Looking forward to your thoughts,

Fletch

Although not a genuine multi, I would give Isospeed Axon Multi. It has the control and spin of a poly, with the touch and feel of a multi I felt.

I'm actually considering switching back to multi. I switched to poly years ago when I used to hit with heavy spin with a western grip, and broke strings too way fast. I've been playing with semi western grip soon after so now I want to try multi again for the superior feel. I'm gonna try a bunch of new polys first though to see if any has good feel.

I routinely get my best results from 17 gauge syn. gut, no matter what racquet I'm using. Not too soft, not too harsh, decent feel, nice bite on the ball, and easy on the wallet.

I was a big time poly user but I hated how the strings would go dead after 7 hrs of play. Decided to try nrg 2 for the hell of it and I fell in love with multis. Great feel, pocketing and just the right blend of power. Currently using x1 bi phase on my apdgt

My stringer once told me to stay away from poly, since I have a sensitive wrist, but I bought a used racquet that was strung up low with Luxilon---I actually liked it (as long as I swung hard). But I prefer a crisp feeling multi like some Tecnifibres. I'll try Quasi-Gut next. Was alittle disappointed with the original Maxim Touch.

My elbow forced me to switch this year. I'm using the original Maxim Touch which I like. Some days it does feel a little too powerful though.

Just recently made the switch back to full multi after full poly last few months caused some elbow/tricep issues. Been testing a bunch of multis at 57# including: max touch classic 17g, quasi gut 16g, Pacific Prem Power X 16g and most recently Pacific PMX 16L. Really like the PMX setup so far. Reminds me alot of Tec Multifeel as it is a Nylon/Polyurethene string. The 16L is nice too at 1.28. We'll see how the durability is-only have about 2hrs on it so far. Interested in trying out the Tec X Code string--seems very interesting!

Good luck on your search and keep us posted :)

I've been searching for a Poly vs. Multi thread. I have been playing synthetic gut my whole life. But I want to experiment and try something new. It's hard to tell which string type will be better for me. I'm looking for lots of bite/spin. Every string I read about claims it has some "tremendous spin potential" and "bite".

I'm considering going half way. I've been using polys for about 2 years now. I don't have arm problems or anything, but terrible touch. I need all the help I can get. Gonna do some testing with some cheaper multis for the cross (concept pure mains).

No thanks. :) I'm pretty happy with the massive spin I get out of using poly mains. But, I string low, use a nice syn gut cross and, except for tournaments, don't play everyday. If I was experimenting any pain whatsoever I would in a heartbeat.

Been using multis for about a year now.I change strings often+still poly was not that good for me.

Everyone says how much control poly has, but i had to string it tight to get good enough control from it.Plus it is not worth ruining your arm+shoulder.

I would suggest nxt tour 18 gauge or prince premier lt 16 gauge, both of these are really good playing strings.
