Poly or Multi and why?

I had posted regarding the MSV Focus Hex 1.18 that I stupidly strung at 62 and was not liking it. I got it restrung at 55 and it's still pretty stiff so the next time I might take it down to like 48.

I was using Gamma Live Wire XP before around 64 and I thought it was pretty cool but I want the MSV to work for me.

But overall, main question is what do people here generally prefer - polys or multi's and why? Seems like polys are pushed/marketed the most but so far I can't seem to see why. I'll say the 55 lbs is better than when I had the MSV at 62 but I don't seem to see a huge difference in power generation, in fact I prob am hitting at a lower power rate than with the Live Wire, does that make sense?

i am in the stone ages for string tech so I apologize if its a moronic question, just curious to see what people's takes are here on poly and multi. I can definitely tell that the strings can make a huge difference relative to when i was playing in college 10 years ago, it's really impressive in how distinct the feel has been for me just between Big Bangers (i hated it but could have strung it too high at 64, Gamma Live Wire -> liked it, MSV Focus Hex -> i WANT to like it).

If you don't have arm issues and are not concern about it too much, I say poly is the way to go. The last longer and provide better spin potential.

For me, I don't want to risk arm issues so I go with multis or natural gut as I have tried poly and it tends to give me sore shoulder after an hour of hitting which I don't get from using multis or natural gut.

You could always try a hybrid of poly and multi strings to get the best of both worlds.

I love Multis as they offer much greater feel (for me), however they don't last long at all. I string my own rackets and have tried various poly's and multi's.

If i didn't have problems with my arm then i'd settle with a Poly, but as thats not the case i use Technifibre Multifeel.

Very generally speaking, polys provide more control and is harder to break, so many people like them better because they could hit harder with polys. Gut and multis provide more feel and power and are more comfortable.

Some people are of the belief that polys are only useful at higher levels of play, and intermediates (weak 4.0s and lower) should stick with multi (which is better for arms). Personally I prefer polys, also because it's much easier to find a very good poly at a low price... can't say the same about multis.

If you don't like the stiff feel of the MSV, you could try some soft polys. Topspin Concept Pure, PolyStar Energy, Genesis SpinX, WeissCannon TurboTwist... are some very nice polys for less than $10 and won't break your arm.
