Poly/Poly hybrids with 4G Soft ?

I recently tried 4G Soft 1.25 and was pretty impressed. I continue to love how much controllable pop I get on serves and groundstrokes. Of course, we're all greedy. The only thing I'd like more of is a bit more spin. Not an issue on serves or BH it seems, Im guessing because of higher racket head speeds. Slice is perfect as it is. So it's mainly about hitting a heavier ball on FH (ie like hyper g does).

Do you folks have any experience with using 4GS in a poly/poly hybrid to achieve these goals? Im thinking of trying:

  • 4G Soft 1.25 / Lynx Tour 1.25 (read that musetti uses 4GR/ LT)
  • 4G Soft 1.25 / Hyper G 1.20 (since Im looking to add some attributes of HG, why not just use that -- ugly color combo might be one big drawkback).
  • 4G Soft 1.25 / Tour Bite 1.20 (I like both strings, and it's pretty. But problem with very different tension maintenance?)
  • 4G Soft 1.25 / Black Knight 1.23 (I like both strings, both long lasting)

I guess I am going with an assumption that adding a shaped cross will add spin. Thought I read that here at some point.

Alternatively, I may just try dropping the tension first. Im doing 46/46 lbs on my APDO. Trying 44/44 or 44/42 is an option.

I think a shaped cross might just add notches faster, but I do not use shaped strings.

I think I read the opposite: that shaped mains were the way to go for spin, with round crosses improving snapback.

Played a league match tonight and was very impressed with 4G soft in match conditions. It had surprising amounts of touch in my APDO (net exchanges, drop shots etc); there’s power when called upon (serves, overheads, passing shots); great responsiveness on defense (chip returns, blocking overheads); good spin when I swing fully.

Im still looking to and more spin and bite (forehands not at full speed; slice serves).

Going a lower gauge would be an obvious thing to try but not offered for 4GS.

So the next best thing might be a thinner gauge of another poly. But which one?

- Ghostwire 1.22 - enjoyed playing it full bed. way less responsive but hopefully adds spin.

- What are other round slick polys to enable snapback and spin?

- should I consider a thinner gauge of a shaped poly? (TB, BK, BHB7)

- Gut main? Ive enjoyed gut/poly hybrids. could try to see if I still get the benefits of 4GS as a cross (I liked Hawk best so far - if it’s similar power should be fine).

4g Soft is my GOAT cross with nat gut right now: 56 +/- 1lb and 52lbs crosses.
Yep I may just need to do that soon. Mostly 55/50 when I was doing 18x20 but may need to go higher in my babolat. 56/52 sounds quite nice.

But first: need to try poly/poly. Round slick makes most sense I think:

- GW 122
- Hawk Touch 120?
- Hawk 120?
- What else?

@Trip Curious to get your expert opinion on this! Goal1: A bit more spin from 4GS. Goal2: soften a tad bit.

Sticking with a round, slick decent tension maintenance cross seems the best bet. Or just lowering tension?

Crosses wise; maybe Ghostwire, PT Rev? Cream 123 or HG round?
