Poly strings on LM Prestige MP - what to do?

Mulligan

Rookie
I have always used multi's and sometimes gut strings on my frames over the years. Recently tried a full Poly job (Klip K-Boom 18g, 55 lbs.) on my LM Prestige MP and it played extremely well. Great spin and power with control. Probably the best results that I have had with this frame. Problem: for the first time in my life I had elbow pain; almost immediately. Damn! I thought that I had found the perfect string setup and along comes the arm pain. I then tried a hybrid with K-Boom main/soft multi cross and I still had some minor elbow pain. Has this happened to many others? Are there any multi's or multi setups that might provide the playability of poly or are there other poly setups that might work, or am I destined to stick with a life w/o poly strings for the benefit of my arm?

I am a hard hitter that used to use a Prestige mid... I loved the feel of a poly hybrid. I used Unique Big Hitter crosses and Tecnifibre NRG mains.

It crushed my shoulder after only 1 month of using it. It has been almost a year of reverting to soft strings, and my shoulder has just now started to recover from it! Maybe I strung it up too tight, but I am not going to find out.
I am sometmes tempted to try a poly again because it really helped produce some lazerbeam winners, but the risk to my shoulder is not worth it in the long run.

The dense string pattern of the mid, and maybe even the mp, creates a VERY stiff, dense stringbed with a poly. If you experienced pain, I would stay away from them altogether.

Try head rip control or some of the Isospeed strings. I can attest to the Rip Control because I play with it in my Prestige Classic from time to time. Have not gotten to try Isospeed yet but will be shortly. I am going to hit with FXP tonight. These are multifilament strings with Polyester wraps so you get the softness of a multi with a crisp feel. Head rip control is pretty hard to describe...but I really like it. Good luck.

I have been using LM Prestige MP with an all ALU job for two years now at relatively high tensions 63/60lbs without any problems with my shoulder. I actually had shoulder surgery 4 years ago now and have been using ALU almost exclusively for three years first in the HPS 6.1 and now the LM Prestige. I do work with weights for shoulder, forearm and wrist and have done so for the 4 years now, which might play a role.

tarheelbornjohn...what ALU do you use? I am also wondering if the pain might be caused by the switch and would not be long term (or if it was the KBoom strings; and an ALU try might be in order). I might give ALU a shot, but the recommendations of Danman and thatballwasin seem to make sense also. Thanks

yet another warning given and still Luxilon and some Doctor is going to take a lot of this man's money. I warned ya! Post back when you use the Lux to let us know how the pain is!

tarheelbjorn... that's great that you use Lux and it doesn't hurt your arm. i agree it doesn't hurt everybody... but if someone is complaining of pain already I feel it is unwise to egg them on to try more poly.

My arm is sufficiently healed where I might be able to go back to a poly, but I play just fine without it so I don't need to risk further injury. Tennis just isn't fun if I'm not serving in the 120's, and when my arm was hurt I could barely muster 85mph. So it is good to be getting the juice back on. Keep your poly, I'll ace ya with a $2 set of Gosen!
