Lets crown the Polyester King! What is thy best poly out there, and why is it the best? Any other Polyester Strings Nominations that aren't in the poll??

Sure! here is a brief summary of your choices, plus a few. *'s are ones i might vote for:

*Luxilon TiMO: Probably one of the best control strings on the market. Pinpoint accuracy until it loses it's tension/playability. A little harsh on the arm.

Luxilon BB ALU: Standard performance poly that every other performance poly is measured against. Better comfort than TiMO, good control. It's pretty good.

*Topspin Cyberflash: Softer, more comfortable than lux BB ALU, a heck of a lot cheaper, too. Better tension maintenance, to boot.

*Signum PPP, low powered, but comfortable co-poly. Cool orange color (some would disagree). Good tension maintenance.

Kirschbaum super smash: More on the first generation, basic poly side. It plays nice and firm, but loses tension more quickly than other strings. I like the feel.

*Tecnifibre Pro Red Code: More raw, lower powered feel than other co-polys. Much like a blend of new, co-poly feel and the older gen I poly feel. Good spin production, awesome red color.

*Gosen Polylon SP: Zingy, poppy string, comfortable and a little powerful for a poly. Excellent string for the price, feels much more like a nylon syn gut rather than a poly.

*Topspin Poly Polar: Much like above, comfortable, poppy feel. More raw feeling, and spin friendly, i'd say. EXCELLENT string for the price.

Wilson Enduro: blah. Gen I polyester string, very basic, and sucks to string (for the first few crosses, especially). Cheap, and durable, if that's what you want.

Gamma Zo line: Life: very stiff and wiry, sucks to string. Power: Very slick and doesn't like to elongate. Both lose tension a little faster than i'd like.

Just a few thoughts.

SPPP took Poly of the Year from the survey at stringforum.net. It was followed by Cyberflash, ALU Power, ALU Power Rough, SPP Hextreme, Kirschbaum Competition, Pro's Pro Plus Power, Pro Redcode, and Pro Hurricane.

Kirschbaum's P2 and Competition have been getting very good reviews recently. You might want to add those. Kirschbaum strings each come in 7 diameters.

Thanks a ton DD! That really helps me out in my choices. Just picked up a pack of Topspin Cyberflash 17, and I'm gonna try a lot more later. Thanks for the info!

The thing about SPPP is that it seems like it breaks really easy at high gauges. Has anyone else heard that???

I'm not sure this is a very "fair" survey. Not to knock stringforum, as i think it is an excellent resource, Jens is a great guy, too. The reason I want to discuss this is that SPPP has/had been getting a ton of good press (which isn't to say that it's undeserved). Thus, a lot of people have/had it very "fresh" on the mind when the poll was taken. Pro Redcode was a relatively un-heard of/not very available string at the time, and Cyberflash also seems to run slightly under the radar. I'm probably being a little nit-picky, though, as SPPP is an excellent string, maybe i'm just trying to project my inability to really choose the "best" string ;)

Yes, this was a common occurrence with earlier batches. It isn't a problem that is totally eliminated, as it does happen, but it has been getting better as time has been going on. Still, I avoid 17l gauge SPPP just because of this. It does happen, but it shouldn't be problematic for most people.

My current string-of-choice, and I'm loving the low-powered nature. As a big-hitter with a tendency to hit long, I love it, and love the pocketed feel of it too.

I am liking it more and more as it wears too, which is never a bad thing!, and it *hasn't* snapped after a week or two from a high-framed mis-hit, a problem I was having with Luxilon Supersense (which I also like a lot).

Oh - and yep - the colour rocks. I couldn't care if it was baby-poop green myself, but it is red, and the red is unique and striking.

I sell more Luxilon original than anything else. When someone asks for a poly, they seem to have this mine. I prefer others, but when it comes to $$$, Luxilon wins for me...

funny, a set of SPPP 17L just snapped on me. 3rd main too.

slice: remind me to slap you :)

hahahaha, sorry, man, I couldn't resist.

Well, FedMcDre.....who makes CyberFlash? I thought it was a digital camera! Kidding.
Is it made by Alpha Sports? Looks good and it is not expensive, huh?

A dude I know uses Dunlop sticks and I tried a half-set off his reel of Dunlop Dynamite Polyester. I understand it is also not expensive and it rocks.

Currently my favorite is Kirschbaum Competition. The first set I tried snapped prematurely for some reason, but the second set has lasted quite well. And I have hit a few framers that I though were sure to snap it, but they didn't. My second favorite is the Topspin Cyberflash. Also a comfortable poly with some feel to it.

My vote is Topspin CF in 17g. It is a very high quality string that gives you the most bang for your buck.
