Poor Man's Champions Choice

half the price of Champions Choice.
This seems like a great alternative if someone wants an all smooth set up.

I used to use VS mains KB Max Power smooth crosses, then tried the ALU Rough, no comparison for me. I'm okay my gut selection. Now just curious about ALU Rough alternatives.

I could do a smaller gauge in the KB Rough, say 18, but I wonder if that would saw more into the gut mains? Someone mentioned Tourna Big Hitter Blue Rough, any other similar "rough" strings someone can recommend?

Poor mans Champions is defo

Prince Synthetic Gut (with Duraflex) Mains & Solinco Tour Bite Diamond Rough 17 Crosses

I string it in a Wilson 6.1 95 (18x20) at 46Lbs and it is amazing. Think i might down the tension next time though. 46 is a tad tight for my liking.

Trade Luxilon ALU Power Soft
In the same gauge, 16L, the Soft has 6.9 spin potential and the Rough is 6.5.

Do you know why, is there a slight texture on the Soft, or does it just move better because it's 11 points less stiff?

I really don't like shaped/geared strings because they are horrible with touch shots, but rough seems to work out better because they are just dimpled smooth strings.

Cost is not really an issue, if the Soft plays and lasts a bit longer than the Rough, but just curious if there are less expensive alternatives for someone else following this thread.

did the champions choice like thing with vs 16 and alu power (not rough) on a tour 90 blx and gave the racket away after 1 hitting.

loved the feel and etc. but just didn't have the timing and strength for winning against big hitters.

Stiffness is a measure of deflection. The farther a string deflects when struck with a blow the softer the string the less it deflects the stiffer. ALU Soft also has a lower string to string COF so being a softer string with less friction against the mains it deflects farther and the more it deflects the greater the spin. Because the String COF is lower it should give you more durability at the same time.

Would a decent multi in the mains, say Signum Pro Microfibre, crossed with something like Max Power Rough have some of the playing qualities of CC at a much lower price?

Or would it just be a waste of time?

I found it to be the least durable multi I ever played. I break multis in ~4 hrs but SP lasted only 90 mins.
It's great in terms of feel and power.
