Shapo lost due to Unforced Errors - choking syndrome?Vesely did just beat the GOAT so maybe we can cut Shapo some slack.
Although I was super disappointed in his choke vs Rafa, but Medwed did it too.
Vesely played well - Shapo underwhelmed. Nothing new it seems always a matter of time. In his own words to his coaches during the match "I don't know what to do!"Does anybody want more proof that Shapo will never win a GS??
The ball basher got what He deserved. Vesely put him in his place tonight!!!

“Heir to Federer” LOL.
Fed fans disrespect their guy more than the most brutal trolls by comparing Dimitrov and Shapo to Fed.
Don't think this is the proof, but he won't win Dubai!Does anybody want more proof that Shapo will never win a GS??

They both have a one handed backhand. That’s pretty much it. Shapo doesn’t even come close to the variety and tennis IQ Federer has.The similarities in the games are undeniable though.
It's that 'artist' player profile.
I think they've both won the same amount of tournaments this year! They both have a one handed backhand. That’s pretty much it. Shapo doesn’t even come close to the variety and tennis IQ Federer has.

Dim's problem is that he couldn't decide whether he wanted to be a grinder or not. I never saw enough of the attacking game from him, and he was very mentally weak when he did go for it and miss, reverting to a more defensive style almost immediately.I didn't say those guys were as good. Just that the style/profile is similar.
They aren't grinders or counterpunchers or servebots, is what I'm trying to say. Athletic, creative players who can dance around the court and come up with dazzling displays of shotmaking.

I blame Roger Rasheed for his transition to the grind mentalityDim's problem is that he couldn't decide whether he wanted to be a grinder or not. His athletic ability was built for a defensive playstyle - his ability to hit on the stretch and really turn defense to offense on display in some of his best matches. But to carry a phrase from TTW his game always seemed to be borrowed from another player and never his own. I think he needed to commit to being “baby fed” totally but instead he tried to be baby Novak.I blame Roger Rasheed for his transition to the grind mentality

S.A.R.C.A.S.M.If this is what you consider "destroyed",
could you please tell me what you would consider a
"close match" ???????????????
The way he has played post AO has been very disappointing. At AO when he beat Zverev and almost completed a marvelous comeback against Nadal, I was sure he was going to be a serious threat at slams this year. His chances at Wimbledon especially looked very promising.Does anybody want more proof that Shapo will never win a GS??

Hope he can return to his best soon.
To be fair, Rafa played very well in the 1st and 2nd set. In the 5th, Shapovalov played just 1 really bad service game. After Rafa went a break up in the 5th, it was his serve that saw him through. Shapovalov tried till the end and seemed very disappointed with the loss. I thought he would learn from the loss and build on it, but he has just spiraled downwards. The choke against Heatstrokedal, you mean? Carefully orchestrated by the comedic talent of C. Bernardes?

Lookin forward to a 'Shapo should retire' thread
The issue isn't his fighting, it's his high-risk game.Honestly, I stopped expecting anything from Denis after last fall. Nothing has changed under Delgado, and I don't believe it will. Denis plays the same way all the time. He has improved a lot in terms of getting more serves into play, and definitely he's better at net. But, other than that, I see little improvement. What concerns me about Denis is his lacklustre attitude. He showed absolutely no interest or determination in last night's match. He was spraying errors all over the place, as if he didn't even care about the match's outcome. This is in direct contrast to players who are succeeding like Medvedev, Rublev, Hurkacz and others. While I don't think they have any more raw talent than Denis, they know how to fight for the win. Their mental toughness takes them a long way.
I don't see Denis doing anything more than he's done for the last three years. At 22, he has one small 250 title, and if he doesn't improve soon, that's all he'll ever win. The promise I saw in him years ago just hasn't panned out. I said then, I wanted to give him 2-3 years to develop and improve. Well, those years have passed, and he's almost no different - too many errors, too many double faults, a poor mental attitude and lack of fight in his matches.
The grass season is not that far off. I doubt very much he can repeat his success of last year, which will mean he'll lost tons of points and fall further down the rankings. If that happens, there are too many good young players who can stay in the top rankings. That will be devastating to a young guy who seemed to have a lot of promise.
I hope I'm wrong.
Really sad.
Oh, this is currently going on now in RG. I thought it was over already.
