Poor Shapo, got destroyed once more, LOL!

He's so much more talented than Hubie and has a much higher ceiling. It's just so frustrating seeing him lose matches he should be winning, time and time again.

It was encouraging to see Denis volleying well and coming in a lot. He needs to do even more of that, he's improved at the net.
Yeah I watched the entire match and decided never to watch him again out of frustration when he lost the 2nd set. He'd play crazy in a game to break Hubi and then just DF and Hit UEs to get broken back. He played amazing at some very important moments in the 3rd and 4th sets but fell off in the 5th. Still hoping to see him beat the likes of Djokovic. But I don't expect him to win many slams. Maybe a Wawrinka like career if he figures himself out later in his career.

When will you finally give up on Shapo?
Or will you never lose faith?
Surely your expectations for him now can't be the same as they were five years ago?

I won't totally give up on Shapo, but put me in the camp of one of those who erroneously thought his trajectory was on the rise after getting to the Wimbledon semis and giving some competition to Novak Djokovic. He was right there in this match, had the momentum starting the fifth set, and the draw was opening up......another chance gone.

Well of course my expectations for Denis aren't what they were in 2017. I was pretty convinced in 2017 that he would have won slams by now. I also thought Youzhny was a steady and guiding hand (that was another poor prediction).

I've not given up on him, I'll always hope he wins big events eventually. Not to suggest he's anywhere near Lendl's greatness, but Ivan was 24 before he won a slam. Shapo is so talented and fun to watch, his fitness is always there too. Sorting out of his mental issues on court is the huge next step. And that hasn't happened yet and may never occur. But I won't give up hoping.

I am sorry but I can't stand watching him play with all the "come ons" and "let's go" on average shots and better yet opponent mistakes. He should watch his countryman FAA and learn how to conduct himself on a tennis court. If one wants to root for a Canadian player root for him.

His backhand is a liability but most importantly mentally he is weak. He wasn't going to win a major in 2017 and he certainly isn't going forward.

I don't root for players because of their nationality and I'm not Canadian anyway. Though I like Felix, his grunting makes him unbearable for me to watch. I literally can't watch an FAA match unless he's playing one of my favorite guys. Worst grunt ever, it's grotesque.

It's not rocket science, I like Shapo and will like him whether he's #5 in the rankings or #500.

I am not a huge fan of the grunting either. Wasn't sure the reasoning for being such a fan of the guy as he doesn't bring anything to the table.

I don't mean to cause difficulty but there are just so many other great players out there but I guess he's your guy.

I'm sure players like Ryan Harrison has fans and he's ranked 600 right now. A player's ranking shouldn't determine whether you like him or not. I can't get into the mindset of rooting for a player like Alcaraz just because it's assumed he'll win many slams and be extremely successful. To me, that's shameless bandwagoning - to embrace someone just because you predict they'll be the next big thing.

Dimitrov never remotely panned out yet he has many fans who have suffered through his endless defeats all these years. It'll probably be the same with Shapo, but I will never stop liking him unless he murders someone or is involved in child porn or something odious like that.

Or accidentally smacks a ball into an umpires face who nearly loses an eye. :)

I agree I don't care about ranking. I didn't say anything about ranking. I do care about how one acts on the court. Shapo is an idiot and that is why I am not a fan.

Shapo and Sharapo similar annoying court noise but in different areas
one was prettier with stronger fist pumps and court mentality.
One still thinks it can rap but is a hip hopeless muse-sicko

He gets ridiculed for this endlessly but here's why that happened. In the on court interview the match before the interviewer asked Shapo that if he wins the next match would he be willing to do a little rap for the crowd. Shapo was game and did it in the spirit of a little fun, he wasn't trying to show off. The shot to the umpires eye is another one he can never live down but many people have shot a ball in anger at 16 years old, he wasn't trying to hit anyone.

On TTW, people hold player's accountable for whatever random stupid thing they said or did at 15-17 and never let them live it down. Rune is reviled here because he shouted at himself a "gay slur" when he was 17. So the virtue signalers and woke brigade will detest him until he retires in 20 years. Same mindset with Denis- they'll never forgive him for one mistake when he was just a kid, even though he apologized at the time and many times since. It's like a bizarre form of OCD or something. Forgive and forget for God's sake.

I don't know about you, but I usually see "random stupid things" being done by "random stupid people". :(

yep I totally agree with that, people don't suddenly become stupid, young or old. There is no such moment in life that a non racist, non misogynic or a non homophobic person has suddenly become racist, misogynistic or homophobic in a flip of second, the truth is they are always being racist, misogynic or homophobic but they are able to hide them, they can hide but they can't really change themselves, the stupid stuff will come out sooner or later, that's when they find themselves in hot water and try to walk back.

Likely not all -- but surely some -- have forgiven you.

Everyone has bad days.

did you listen to the words? how could anyone dismiss his cringe filled narcissism as not his fault?
As for unintentionally smashing a ball in anger at 18 years of age in a pro stage, that is still pretty brainless and dangerous
pretty sure no one has done such damage to anyone else in the same circumstance not even young Macca or Connors.
Anger is controllable in sports where your ego is the only thing that can suffer due to your own stupidity.

That's a difficult question to answer. If I was 19 and the interviewer accosted me to compile a little rap on short notice if I won the next match then I just might have tried, rather than be a killjoy. Then again, probably, I wouldn't be wise enough to understand how many killjoy tennis fans there are out there, like YOU for example. The crowd loved it BTW, which was the main point of it.

Short notice? much like you exaggerating 16 years of age for that ball bashing incident.
It was obviously pre-planned and even has to use his memory storage and tracking device.
Naive much? but thats YOU not me which like the crowd totally amused from feeling embarrassed for him.
I love creativity as long as its not a stew of plagiarized Clichés from meth addicted muse-sickos.

The drunyards just were amused like for any reality tv program contestant, they love a cocky and bratty effort.

As a lifelong Minnesota Vikings fan, I understand your fandom.

FAA is watching paint dry compared to Shapo

This post is just awful.

What a disgrace again...

Someone saw the match?
I saw extended highlights. It almost looked to me like Denis was tanking at certain moments. He hit a bunch of very weak approach shots right at Wu and was effortlessly passed. His body language was off too. Something's up with him and it's not good.

Ok well i guess Shapo didn't tank it afterall........... i thought he took the appearance money and flew out of town
I didn't say Denis tanked the match, I said, "It almost looked to me like Denis was tanking at certain moments."

Huge difference. One of the things I like about Shapo is that he fights hard even when choking. That sounds like an oxymoron, but he's not been a tanker in his career.

shapo will never win a major anyway, unlike Wu who will win teh US open 2023

Shapo, Fritz and Thiem will always over achieve on their instaglams accounts
LOL "never stop fighting" Shapo

Wu recently embarrassed many Murican hopes but not one with Serbian/Bosnian bloodline, Aleksandar Kovacevic.

shame Shapos fave fan Trudope, is busy fighting weather balloons
"Never stop fighting' LOL da Mmoh he fights da mmoh he loses
back to renting nearby studio for another cringe session with Mootet

His fellow Yonex VCore SV95 swinging Mr. Giron has more wins in 2023 and a couple of titanium hips!
while the Canadian C'moner even suffers with cliché couplets in hip hop!
