Poor Shapo, got destroyed once more, LOL!

Shap needs mental work, a more proven coach and a more accommodating frame with a more consistent string bed, like a Regna 98 pro stock (painted as a retail silo, VCore or otherwise), or jump ship to Head or Tecnifibre. ...Not that most here would say a different stick would do much, but still, precision aside, that SV 95 isn't doing him any favors.

Interesting that Jim Courier mentioned possibly changing rackets, this was during last year's American HC swing.

More than a different racket, he needs a proven sports psychologist and desperately needs to work on point construction and on court demeanor. Fed was the master of showing very little positive or negative emotion on court after 2001. Shapo is exciting because he's excitable, but he has to maintain a calmer demeanor on court. He giving his opponents an advantage.

FAA and Shapo have both (but to different degrees) Nadal-ized their games and I am not sure whether this was to their advantage, including healthwise, or to our advantage, as fans.

He's the most disappointing player i have ever saw. Ever.

And really i'm very sorry to say it.
I watched Shapo's doubles match last night live and watched his singles match tonight live against Humbert. Denis' attitude was pathetic, and I say that as a fan, though I might be a former fan after tonight. He was rude, profane, petulant, ordering his team to get the f--- out of the stadium and acting horrible. Just acting like a 12 year old brat.

He also put forth about 50% effort, if that. He couldn't have care less about the fans who paid good money and were rooting him on and literally begging him to put in some effort. He didn't even move for many balls and was slapping at the ball as if he wanted it to go out. His body language screamed negativity from first ball to last.

Bitterly disappointing. The only reason he and Felix won the doubles last night is because Rune/Shelton are a terrible doubles team and Felix carried the weight for their side 100%. Felix is professional, polite and no question the better player at this point. Shapo should fall out of the top 50 pretty soon if he doesn't start giving a damn on court. I've stopped rooting for him, I'm done. If he doesn't care about his tennis, why should his fans?

Only caught the last few games. What was that? He was a break ahead in the 2nd and just played hyper quickly spraying errors like he wanted to leave as early as possible.
Finally got broken twice in what seems like less than 5 minutes and lost in two sets.

He’s on a terrible streak lately. Whatever happened to I have ice in my veins? I don’t like how weak both him and FAA are mentally. But at least Felix wouldn’t tank a game like that. Shameful.

this is depressing...
I've liked Shapo since 2017 and it's tough to switch off a player you've rooted for through the past 6 years. The last time I saw him live was at the 2019 IW, where he absolutely destroyed Cilic in the third round and was playing great. He was happy on court, exciting to watch, receptive to fans.

I don't presume to know what's happened since then, but he's not the same player. All week he's been surly, negative and basically tanking. He's acting like Courier did at the end of his career when he obviously didn't give a damn. Denis is way too young to already be burnt out.

Canadian, super-talented, unique, swashbuckling style, one-handed backhand, relatively handsome - he has so much going for him on a tour that's become littered with generic bashers, but of course he has to be a head case with a ****-poor attitude. Of course. It was too much to ask.
We could make a few changes and turn it into Safin, yet he still won 2 slams:

Seriously, hate to see high level talent wasted colossally. Zero shot tolerance, pitiful attitude and as noted by others here, already jaded out there, temperament of a middle schooler, very limited defense, and worst of all a double-fault machine rivaling and surpassing Zverev, which says a lot. Geez, Shapo. Get it together, dude.

This is a great summation, you hit all the high points and nailed it.

I keep thinking that had Shapo held on to his lead over Djoker at 2021 Wimbledon, it could have turned around his career. He could have beaten Berrettini in a presumptive final. He was serving for the first set and was at 30-15 before totally collapsing and losing it mentally. Maybe Denis just doesn't have the fire in the belly since earning 10+ million on court and twice that off it. He could spend the rest of his life investing well and living large in Bermuda. His mind is certainly not on the game right now and when his ranking starts a free fall, it might be too late to right the ship.

Agree with @BeatlesFan, @Midaso240 , @welcome2petrkordaland, @stringertom, @socallefty @Ufiors among others! The organizers of Miami need to set up a Shapo v. Thiem, at least one of my favorites would get a win !! Seriously, they BOTH probably need a coaching change - just to break out of their collective funk. It is a shame to watch so much talent go to waste. They should both go to some challenger events to experience winning again. Don't be remembered as the greatest tennis rapper !!

No way he has even approached GOAT tennis rapper Vince Spadea. They both have one career ATP title so he’s closer there; just needs a slightly longer losing streak to be level with Vince’s record 21 match slide in ‘99-‘00.

I have an attractive game and I stand out,
I like to shine and marvel,
I just don't have consistency or regularity
but what does it matter, if my fall is not going to affect me.
I only have rap and lyrics left to express what I feel when playing on a tennis court,
I leave the rest to my fans and I ask you not to expect more than I can give.
:notworthy:

Of course, wide open draw, golden opportunity, playing a mug, and he flubs it in spectacular fashion after taking the first set. Classic Shaps.

There was talk of a knee injury that's apparently been causing him problems for months now, but that's the first I've heard of it. I suspect it's just an excuse to mask the real cause of his lousy play.

He's a multi-millionaire. He's doing just fine.
Leave the kid alone.
All of them in the top 50 are multi millionaires, the point for them all is to win tennis matches and tournaments. Money should be utterly secondary, especially when the bulk of their earnings come off court.

When someone is as talented as Denis, it's perfectly fair to point out (again and again) that he squanders his exceptional talent and simply doesn't progress in the rankings or in play style. Last year at this time he was ranked #15, he's down to #30.

Regressing, not progressing.

Actually, he looked like he was in pain towards the end. He was doubled over. He spoke recently about how the knee has been so bad he cannot finish practices. But then I don't know why he wasn't taped better. That white tape will do nothing. He needed proper KT taping. As well, why didn't he call for the trainer? He has before. But yes he is squandering his talent.
