I'd actually a lot of these early loses he has probably have and will prolong his career. Just look at the number of matches he has played in his career vs the likes of Nadal who is 1.25 years younger, Berdych, et all.

Me neither, but I never saw him beating Nadal to win the AO or Djoker to win RG. Stan is never going to be a stellar grass player, he takes way too much time to set up his shots.

Last year's QF vs Gasquet upped my optimism for his chances on grass.
I was very pessimistic about Thiem's chances on grass for the long setup reason you mentioned about Stan. Look what he's done to adjust for the faster conditions. Old dogs, new tricks maybe.

Cilic was ranked #11 when Stan beat him in the final of Geneva. He is the highest ranked player he has beaten so far this year.

He should be somewhat concerned about the early loses in the slams this year. 4th at AO and now 2nd at WB, big fall down from last 2 years, unless he rebounds with an excellent run or win at the USO. To be fair the losses were against quality opponents, as everyone saw how well Raonic played at the AO this year. Murray was inspired at the FO this year and Del Potro is dangerous, especially on grass and played better than anyone could have expected.
Stan and his coach/s should however be very worried about his inconsistency and how he makes costly mistakes to lose games which can cost him sets and matches. That break early in the 2nd and early in the 3rd (first game) were inexcusable

I don't think Stan really cares. He's making good money where he's at, and will be making good money outside the top 10. I think Delpo is a little hungrier.

It's one thing to hire someone and it's another to execute it on court. However, I doubt it was part of the plan to have some sloppy play during the match to get broken. One thing I saw in this match was that his forehand in the forecourt is quite suss and error prone or potentially leaves him open for a pass. That's one part of the court Djokovic is excellent with his forehand, he gets some real good up and down spin on the ball to put it away and end the point.

Prior to winning his 1st Slam at 2014 AO, he had only ever made 1 Slam semi-final (2013 USO) and had only won a handful of 250 tournaments in a 12 year career. His sudden transformation from talented journeyman to multiple Slam champion beginning in 2014 in some ways reminds me of Djokovic's sudden transformation from 1 Slam wonder to multiple Slam champion in 2011 albeit Stan was so much older and at a point in his career where you would think he would have little chance of improving. The Stan Transformation has truly been one of the remarkable tennis stories of the last few years!
