Possible herniated disc in neck

After playing tennis last week, have tremendous pain in my neck and shoulder all the way down to my elbow. Been like this for 5 days with no let up in severe, sharp, unrelenting pain.
Saw a Dr. today and getting an MRI Wed. Due to numbness in 3 fingers of right hand, thinks its a herniated disc/pinched nerve.

Anybody with any experience in this? By far this is the most painful injury I've ever had. Ice takes the pain from 10 to about a 5. Taking painkillers at night.

no exercise at all until you have a diagnosis. Herniations in the cervical spine, if that's the issue here, can be a very delicate situation, as Peyton Manning could explain.

More than likely a bulging/herniated disc that is pinching a nerve. Had a similar issue a couple years ago.

My index finger went numb and I had the worst pain I have ever had shooting under my arm all the way down to my fingers. I couldn't even find a comfortable position to sleep in.

After several months of rehab it finally resolved itself to the point of playing tennis again.

2 1/2 years later it has never been the same. I just try to manage it the best I can. Index finger still feels numb.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Has the pain subsided, outside of the numbness? I cant stay on vicodin for long.
The pain shooting down my arm is severe. This sucks, was just getting in good tennis shape too. Very frustrating and painful.

I had my C3/C4 disc removed and the vertebra fused due to slipped disc. It started with a neck strain, which subsided but later developed into numbness in the left thumb and index fingers. As there was no pain at that time, the MO ruled out slipped disc. I was in the military at that time and the physical exertion quickly aggravated it. I had numbness down my right arm, right torso and weakness in the legs. I was on the verge of paralysis. That was when it became clear enough it was slipped disc and later confirmed by MRI. It was protruding towards the spinal cord and compressing it, which could be why there was more numbness than pain.

I still have residual numbness but after all these years (15 yrs), i've gotten used to it but there's development of cervical spondylosis which is causing neck soreness and stiffness.

Basically don't take it lightly as it could deteriorate into some serious.
