its actually 2013 when roger was forced to wear the grey/white vapors when he got a warning from wearing a orange outsole

fed-wimbly-shoes-2013.jpg

Those are possibly the best Wimbledon shoes ever.
Stupid spoil-sport rich old white man's club.

But Serena is allowed to keep her ridiculously bright underwear, and we see more of that than we do of Rogi's shoe soles.

Probably just pulls them too tight due to OCD behavior.

This happens to me with pretty much every pair of socks I have ever found. I weat 10.5 so not too small but when you pull the sock on tight the heel always comes up out of the shoe.

^^^ I'm thinking that, in addition to his OCD issues, he also hates his toes and / or toenails.

Why have Federer customized the upper front part of his shoes? It is not mesh like in the commercial version of the 9.5 Vapors.

To not let clay get inside the shoe maybe?

If you go back a few years you will find countless threads on the various differences between Nadal and Fed PE shoes and the retail versions.

In Fed's case, most of the differences between PE and retail version of shoes relate to them not requiring any break in time.

Another addition to my Stan collection

Sweet congrats... Love the "The Man" text. Also, what size or is that some european shoe size on the tag?

BTW I love this thread... I kinda hate feet but there is something cool about footwear in action shots, cropped and close up.

Dogopolov

I say next to Dogopolov at Indian Wells this year for a Womens match and got a Pic of his Joma shoe with his name on it and a custom sole. He said is was basically just a clay court sole but that many of the guys like that type of sole on hard courts as it makes sliding easier. I am not sure how to post pics though or I'd post it.

Hi darklore009

You are definitely quite good at capturing good shoe close ups! Do you have one of Federer's Wimbledon shoes from his 1st round match today?

Thanks in advance

Anyone else find it interesting that Wawrinka doesn't wear normal clay pattern soled shoes? I wonder if Yonex have decided this is a better way to go.
Late reply, but actually it is the clay version that he's wearing. It just has a significantly different pattern from most of other shoes on the market.

Fed wears a super wide shoe, has carbon fiber shanks, different outsole material, leather for the toe guard, and some difrerences in the interior of the shoe

Credit for pic to "Rafael Nadal Fans" via Twitter last night, Rafa's AO2016 PE Nike Lunar Ballistecs

rafael-nadal-australian-open-2016-shoes-nike.jpg

Usual PE variations to retail model present (outsole, tounge, lacing system, year of title won) but appears to be new addition to 2016 PE model with numerous triangle ventilation holes found on both medial and lateral sides of the shoe....wonder if we'll see these included on any updated version of the retail model (certainly not present on current retail version).

All they need to do is put the court ballistec or just a better sole in general on the lunars. Ditch the 6 month warranty if you must. Drop the price $20 bucks. Instantly is a good shoe.

Rafa is wearing shoes that are good for him. His shoes are designed for him and they are not available to the public.

I've tried the Lunars when they came out. They're garbage. I've heard from people in the industry that, he just burns through the soles on those too.

They're special for him because of marketing. The world didn't buy court 4.3's with spray paint on them for very long.

Rafa's shoes are special for him due to an anatomical peculiarity of his left foot, and he is wearing special insoles in his shoes.

As has been discussed here countless times both Nadal and Federer (and plenty of others others) on-court wear shoes which whilst looking similar to the retail models are in fact actually quite different.
My post was simply highlighting another one of these apparent differences and I was wondering whether this is a feature we will see on later models of the Lunar Ballistic or whether it's something which will only ever feature on the PE version of the shoes.

IN short: Never

They pros shoes are built way differently and likely always will be...

1. To be like an older shoe they are used to/prefer
2. To be higher performance as they are changing shoes VERY often so they don't need durability features
3. Nike tries to keep Tennis shoes in line with their current technology/materials. Cutting down costs by not having to back stock materials/patterns they do not use any longer
4. The number of people who actually care are not great enough to justify the cost of changing how a shoe is made for a select few people.

That being said some pros DO wear bone stock shoes. Asics speeds "right off the shelf" for instance.

????

Yeah I'm well aware of PE shoes and reasons for them....just trying to highlight a new feature on Rafa's PE shoes as the little triangles weren't present last year and just wondering whether these will eventually feature on the retail models as apparently an update is due later in the year.
