I would like to make a list of power beam
variations of Boris Becker's racket, and the basic spec's
and playability of those. Here is a start:
Puma:
Power Beam-- fiberglass and graphite flexible and heavy,
but easy to swing
Pro model?
Boris Becker Super--(silver model) so flexible it is almost unusable
it was a budget model, uncontrollable
If a racket can be too flexible this is it
Estusa Power beam--different handle, non-telescoping
I think more controllable and more responsive
than the Puma
Estusa power beam pro--just a little bit stiffer (I think the same weight)
feels exactly the same when you pick it up, but you
can feel the less flex when you hit with it
It may not make sense--but I think it is easier to control
this racket(again these are almost identical, but I swich
back and forth between these 2 frames alot, so I
can feel the difference).
Estusa power beam braided--lighter and stiffer (more graphite, braided)
I felt I lost a little power with the raquet
even though it is easier to swing--not the
buttery feel of the other 2 rackets
I think Estusa improved upon the mold with the handle--the frame seems
a little more controllable.
Estusa tried alot of different set ups with the head shape, and could never
produce a frame that played as well as the original flat beam design.
I have hit with almost every version of the line. There were widebodies
and a couple round tube frame designs--all were stiff, and lacked the
feel of the original design, and I think lacked the power as well--
people say flexi rackets are low powered, but I have always felt that
the power beam, when hit with a firm stroke, launches the ball--
the flex helps launch the ball. I you watched Federer on Sunday,
he hit a couple shots from deep trouble with just a quick wrist slice stroke,
and got the ball over the net. With a stiff racket, the ball would have
ended up in the net.
