Welcome to the 2nd Indoor event of the 2016 tennis year and our seventh PARIS BERCY Indoors Event!

HOW TO PLAY:

For each round of matches, we assign scoring points to each individual. For example, a match between Novak Djokovic (12,920) and David Ferrer (6,505) would have the following scoring points:

[1] N Djokovic (SRB) vs. [5] D Ferrer (ESP) - (7-14)

For the BNP Paribas Masters, as it's a Masters 1000, the player picks the winner of 16 out of 47 matches (not all from one round) based on the provided scoring points. The scoring points are calculated by a mathematical formula based on the players’ rankings. The objective of the game is to pick a mix of upsets and "sure bets" that will give you the highest score. All matches will be posted in the thread with scoring points and will also be available in the league file. We hope you all join and we can make this bigger and better than our previous events!

REMINDER: You can join at any time (even if you want to pick just the final) but to make all 16 picks for Bercy, you must make your first pick before the conclusion of the SECOND ROUND.

The Top Ten:

At any point during the 2016 PPL season, the following four participants can choose to double up on a pick. The double up needs to be announced before the match begins.​

For clarity and cleanness of thread put this long answer in spoiler
I don't have any edit access to power play. I do have a version over in the prediction league file that I am automating so we can eliminate errors and make the OPs easier to run for both leagues. At this point it looks like its working and one just types in the name with some guidance from autofil for the two opponents in two seperate fields. Before the tournament one imports all the rankings/country data and manually enters the seeds and other designators (WC, Q , etc.) The spreadsheet then looks up for each match the seeding (or Q, SE, PR, WC), ranking points, country, and does all the necessary calculations to spit out one line of the OP in each cell. Its a simple copy and paste with exactly correct data with no possibility of human error. For prediction league we just remove the odds at the end. Its just a toy going through the testing right now. The Meles OP was just a little trial baby to see if we could find and import the data. Here is the updated version with all the bells and whistles:

These all use the same formula and if the player is not seeded or in another special category nothing is displayed before their name. We end up using the full names because the ranking data sources use this format. Maintaining the bolding in excel would require special visual basic programming code, so the bolding for the match number and the points would take some doing in excel and google sheets is a much uglier beast (my first time trying to do heavy formulas in google sheets.)

Here is the prediction league file if your head would like to mentally explode looking at the formula:
2016 LEAGUE FILE
The PPfixtureGen is the first tab of several for this project and you'll see a familiar view until you look at the formulas for the cells. If you want to see the simplest formula look at the formulas for the odds numbers. The fixture for the matches uses many more of the same lookups plus the concatenate function to assemble the data with the appropriate spaces, periods, parenthesis, etc. Warning this will happen to even an experienced excel person if they look at the fixture formula.

No changes are being made to the power play league file. Gnana can just paste the data into the power play league rather than typing in all the matches and the formulas.

True, but it only takes one, no? And Djokovic hasn't played in a while and Stanimal has gone completely off the boil lately. Plus this event is notorious for top seeds to drop like flies.

Never mind this cancellation, because in the interest of fair play and in accordance with the honor system, I was a little late to cancel this pick, as 2 points had already been played by the time I posted to cancel this pick. Therefore, the pick must remain. Might turn out to be a good thing lol.
