Welcome to the fifth installment of the Power Play League. We have been getting a good number of participants throughout the summer and we hope that continues through the fall hard court season.

The player/participant picks the winner of a fixed number of matches based on the provided scoring points. The objective of each tournament is to to choose matches that will give you the highest total score.

For the Rogers Cup, as it's a Masters 1000, we'll be picking any 16 matches (not all from one round) out of a total of 55. All matches will be posted in the thread with scoring points and will also be available in the league file. Please read the Instructions and FAQ for further details. We hope you all join and we can make this bigger and better than our previous four events!

Good to be back in business. July was a lull without anything interesting going on in the tennis world!

Based on the current ATP points, it seems like it would make a lot of sense to pick Nadal's opponent in Nadal matches, just because you would get a lot more points. On hard-courts I don't think Nadal should be better than a 60-40 favorite over guys like Djoker, Murray, DP etc. But Nadal has more than 2x as many ATP points as some of these guys. So you would roughly get twice the points for picking Murray over Nadal. Those are great odds for picking Murray (or Sod/Del Potro for that matter).

It does make sense if you actually believe the person will beat Nadal. If not, earning 5-7 points per Nadal match also isn't a bad strategy, maybe not in a Masters tourney but in a GS. Just my opinion though. Hope you'll join us!

Finally! (Seems like such a long time in between.)
Thanks to NYKings, et al, for hosting this game!

I was tempted to pick that but Simon has never beaten Youzhny (I believe) and he has talked about how difficult he finds Youzhny to play... although really he looked better against Nalby than anyone else this week. Hmm...

What a get by Nalby right there!?!

With Youzhny, you can expect anything to happen. So, the risk is worth it IMO.
And as for Nalbandian, anyone not picking is really missing some points!

Youzhny gets my vote for the best maffia-like look...especially that chin. And those eyes!

Puuuuure evil!

Well about that: 2009 is a blank year for Simon.

2007, Simon didn't exist as a player.

The only relevant match imo is the Indian Wells one, but I assume at that time Youzhny was in great form.

Fine, but you're buying me ice cream if Youzhny wins.

15. Simon 4th

Please stay on topic in this thread. Speaking about players eyes are definitely off-topic. This is your one and only warning :)

I don't appreciate your Salma Ticks.

---

I am rooting for Baghy, but I didn't think he could actually win... Didn't he hurt his ankle yesterday?

Ice cream it is.

Btw, you're just ahead of me in the rankings, so I'm just working you in this thread. ha ha. :) :p
Excellent. Am I? I want my Queens/Halle points now just so I can be far ahead of you. :p How are you? It seems like a very long time ago we were all doing this for SW19. Sorry about Washington TWPL. I know you wanted to, but I just never got around to answering and it was too late by the time I thought about it.

It's no problem. :)

I've been okay, fighting with the heat, I really hate the hot weather. Also, I'm doing some dental work, which is ok, because my dentist is an awesomely cute one. :p

How about you?

Interrupting this wonderful conversation... where are you from? I might need some dental work done :)

No no, I'm not the dentist, I have dental work being done to me :p

Romania is the country.

You?...I know Seffina is a proud mid-westerner in the US.

I know you're not the the dentist. I wanted to know where you were since the cute dentist is in the same general area :)

Romania sounds cool, I have a good friend here who is Romanian. I'm from New York.
