ESPN reporting the great driver is in critical condition with a brain injury after a horrible skiing accident. What a tragedy if we lose him! Please have his well-being in your thoughts and prayers!
The man is an experienced skier and thrill seeker. He took preventative measures just in case. I'm glad they attended to the issue as soon as possible. Liam Neeson's wife could have survived if they had took care of that injury ASAP.
???
The guy arrived to the hospital in coma, had the brain surgery to stop the bleeding and is now fighting for his life. Doctors will not comment till Tuesday when they will know if he has any chance for survival or not.
I don't think his experience helped here much...
Yes, I read and saw it.
1. Many people forget to wear a helmet while doing physical activity (when it is important such as riding a bike and others)
2. What I meant was that just because you're experienced in something, doesn't mean that you won't get injured performing in it.
Outside of that , on the topic of Formula One,
was he as great as some say?
Was his car the same or worse than the rest of the guys cars?
In my book definitely one of the greats, I put him right behind Ayrton Senna.
Schumacher won 7 world titles ( 5 with Ferrari, 2 with Bennetton ) and has 91 victories in Formula 1 GP
under his belt.
The ferrari might have been the top F1 car one year but in the long run it's the pilot and his abilities to
work with his team to set up / race a near perfect car on each track that makes the difference.
Ok,which year may it have been the top car?
And what other cars were the better ones the other 7 years?
He was wearing a full face helmet plus a back and chest protector..Helmet was
found not cracked but in pieces..
Without it he would have died on the spot.

THIS reminds you that life is fragile?? No, life is quite resilient so long as you don't do things like slide down icy mountains at high speed or drive at 200 mph.

Sking off piste is probably far more dangerous than Formula 1, but apparently snowboarding is worse.
What is this all about?
Off piste means a lot of things and how is snowboarding worse?

Very poor analysis of the situation. Off piste skiing is not a mundane activity. Unless Schumacher was skiing from a trail to his chalet over gentle slope, or something similarly "mundane", he put himself in a situation of elevated risk. Not that the resulting injury should be expected, but the possibility of such an injury is greatly increased. In such situations, one can go from having great fun to seriously injured/dead in the blink of an eye.Apparently he wasn't going very fast. Just hit a bad patch/rock and hit his head a rock. Bad luck.
Accidents happen doing all sorts of mundate things. Doesn't necessarily mean he was being reckless.
....or get hit on your commute to work, or slip in the bathtub, or...........
"Off piste" doesn't mean a lot of things. It is the area on the mountain which is off of the groomed and/or marked ski trails. It is also known as back country skiing. Conditions are variable. Thus, it is inherently more dangerous than on trail skiing given similar degrees of slope.

Pretty common.
The above talk about "dangerous off piste skiing" is fine, but in reality, most skiing accidents happen:
1) At the end of the day when you get tired and therefore lazy. Bad things can happen.
2) When you relax and stop focusing on what you are doing (like in easy green groomed runs). I've caught edges and crossed skis more times than I can count AFTER executing a difficult run and gone down like a ton of bricks. If there had been a rock under my head when this had happened........
If there was a rock under your head, then you probably weren't on a green run. Or a blue run.
Early season conditions. There are rocks everywhere.
I forgot, you're still serving time for that public indecency conviction.
