It renders the field useless from a certain point of view but it makes Federer look simply better then everyone else from another POV....you can't just say Federer dominated because the field was weak or it was a weak era or all this **** because we can't justify it, and we can't justify that Fed is just simply much better, therefore these points are irrelevant...we can only go with facts and figures and the facts and figures clearly show Federer as the best in a hell of alot of departments.

Then it must have been the most catastrophic period of tennis when Laver won, not one, but two grand slams. Amazing the sport survived, I guess

This is a fairy tale.... not actually even remotely likely, just a nice ending. Nadal d. Federer USO? Never. Roddick def Federer anywhere? Never. Nadal will not make FO final but maybe Fed will beat him in QF or SF

Laver didn't have as much competition(and three out of the 4 surfaces were on the same surface) and the general consensus between tennis historians,analysts,former and actual tennis players is that the competition is(or should be) stronger today. Laver wouldn't have won two Grand Slams today,winning 8 consecutive slams(not even federer managed more than three in today's tennis cause he was stopped at RG).
My "problem" isn't that Federer has won so many slams,he earned them. But if he continues to dominate even after he has broken all records and nobody steps up it will be bad for tennis because it will mean that there is no challenge and tennis without rivalries sucks. We need some adversity people. Adversity from Nadal so many years made Fed's 2009 so great. It will be the same for Rafa if he comes through this clay season after his horrendeous 2009. Or with Murray if he finally wins a slam. Same with Roddick.
Tennis needs some interesting stories,like Cilic had this AO. Federer steamrolling everybody on tour in slams the 7th,8th,9th(depends how long fed can keep this up)year of his domination will not bring any new viewers and some people will start to tune out. Something like this happened with Sampras and he didn't dominate half as much as Roger.
These are just my opinions,don't label me a hater or anything like that.

But it is not just my opinion,tens of people with way more knowledge of tennis history than me say the same thing. I even heard Laver say something along those lines about today's tennis.
But maybe he was just being gracious and those are not his real opinions
Roddick came veeery close last year. I think there's still one shot in him for that title. If he serves out of his mind like last year and takes the little chances he is given, he may win. Never say never.
As for Nadal. It does seem farfetched for him to win the USO. I mean that's his least favourite surface, There are a lot of players who can take him out. Even in straights.
And Nadal to not make the FO final is a bit of a stretch. He's the big favorite there, as long as he plays..
