My prediction for the field for next year (not in any particular order)

Murray
Djokovic
Nadal
Delpo
Nishikori
Raonic
Pouille
Kyrgios/Thiem

An additional option is Cilic who could come at the expense of Delpo is he again runs into injuries.

I have assumed that

1. Federer would not be able to make a successful comeback past age of 35.
2. Wawrinka would fade out
3. Time of late Noughties likes of Tsonga, Ferrer, Berdych, Monfils, Gasquet is firmly over.
4. Nadal would still win enough in Clay season to maintain a top 8 ranking.
5. Murray and Djokovic likely to dominate the tour. Even if they don't to the extent they did in 2016, there is no possibility of them moving out of top 8.
6. Pouille is undoubtedly best of gen-next and lock-in from my side to end in top 8.
7. Mezzanine-Gen would have fair representation in form of Nishi,Raonic and Delpo. May be Cilic as well.

Where is top-5er Tomic?

Fed and Rafa too early to tell, depends on health. Same for Delpo, actually, where is he ranked now? But yes, Rafa might pile up enough points in the dirt. Agree with Wawa in terms of general form but all he needs is a couple of big tournaments which he is always capable of doing.

I truly hope you're right about No.3 :p All nice guys, all will look great in a retirement home.

You have assumed wrong. NEXT!

In no particular order:
Roger
Stan
Delpo
Rafa
Marin
Dominic
Murray
Djokovic

Raonic and Nishikori are most likely to be 9th and 10th next year, Kyrgios will have and awful year and Dimitrov will finish around 11th or 12th.

Seroius doubts about Pouille. Zverev has stats moving in the right direction. Pouille not at the same level. Much to like about Pouille, but just not showing the stats (he's over ranked as is Thiem for that matter.)

I think that Federer will qualify. Remember the achievements of the number 8 player is far below the top 2 or 3. (Look at the 2016 final points rankings) Hence, the bar is relatively low for someone of his talent.

Of Kyrgios dpesn't at least reach the top 10 next year, something is definitely wrong with him.
He is capable of proving that in many other ways as well. On point I agree it would be sheer waste of talent if he fails to make it count for one more year.

Though I do have respect for your knack for stats, I don't agree with your assessment of Pouille being overranked. He made back to back quarters in majors and finished year 2016 strongly. I'll still go for him as my first pick from gen next for next year top 8. Followed by Kyrgios. Zverev somehow skipped my mind, also has good chance of making it to top 8. I would rate his chances at the same level as of Theim.

Well Zverev is incredibly strong simply because his return game is amazing for a player of his size. Just a matter of waiting for serve game to improve and return game will get better too. I don't think he makes WTF next year, but he'll be an obvious choice for 2018.

Pouille has a lot of upside, but I'd feel a lot more comfortable with better stats. Pouille since US Open:
TOTALS Match Tiebreak Ace% 1stIn 1st% 2nd% SPW RPW TPW DR
29-Aug 12-5 (71%) 7-3 11.4% 54.9% 75.5% 51.6% 64.7% 36.3% 50.6% 1.03

50.6% total points won since start of US Open just isn't all that good. The upside is that the real drag is RPW (return points won) which is quite low. I'd tend to discount that stat as Pouille has an incredible knack for getting hot on return. Like all these young players he really needs to improve his serve game. Its getting better, but players like Murray break Pouille far too easily. Glad you like Pouille as he is one of my favorite players.
