Predict when Nadal wins #21?

Who knows if it will ever happen. Each slam seems like the last. He is getting older and his once famed mental strength is no longer what it used to be. Nor is his physicality.
Plus he lacks belief against Novak and Fed. And these other next gen guys are finally going to get better.

Will there be another slam where conditions line up as they did in the UsOpen? Will Nadal be able to overcome a stronger Thiem and Djokovic in Paris?
Big questions, but no easy answers.
Thiem has been going downhill since Roland Garros.

And Djokovic has been going downhill on clay for awhile.

And don't even make me laugh mentioning Federer at Roland Garros at this point.

We will see if Medvedev is a capable clay court contender or not.

You do make valid points on his chances for non RG slams but he could easily get there just on RG alone. As for the other slams what keeps happening will probably happen again, that he avoids Djokovic (and maybe Federer) who both seem more prone to being taken out by the field ATM than Nadal (especialy Federer) to win again.

This year Federer played pretty well in RG, and Nadal had to work hard to beat him. The first two sets were very close.

Cool, and Federer is still not in a million years beating Nadal at RG ever again. Well not really ever again, since he never did even in his prime. And it is unlikely he makes the semis there if he plays it again either, that was a big surprise if anything.

Why wouldn't he be when he has the Berrettinis of the world in his last rounds all the time?
It'd be a lot easier if he had the likes of USO Fed in his final rounds. Would be a simpler task to beat a guy who loses to Millman and Dimitrov than a guy who beats Monfils and Rublev.

Definitely proven since 2014 AO outside of clay with Nadal's outstanding record against Federer of 0-6 including losses at the AO and Wimbledon.

Against early season Fred, not late season, beaten down, old man Fred.
Dude Federer in a Slam final outside of the FO even if he's below his best is Nadal's 2nd worst opponent right after Djokovic. Don't get fooled with how both play, you just had another confirmation at Wimbledon. Nadal can only beat mugs to win Slams now.

I mean technically that's pretty much what's left if both Federer and Djokovic lose.

How could you let Nadal slay your life like this? lol epic

That's not what I was reading on this forum before the matches took place. LOL Nadal fans were panicked and shocked at how Nadal was constantly becoming erratic throughout.
Swartzman while having a bad record v Nadal has always troubled him. Cilic likewise.

Berrettini is the kind of player who had always troubled Rafa and the kind who Federer has routined his whole career. Similarly there are many players who have troubled Federer that Nadal dismisses with ease. Matchups are what makes slams so hard to win.

Medvedev in that form was beating anyone bar rafa..and he was very close to beating Nadal

You people never learn. Nadal was destroying everyong at Wimbledon too, Federer was very average and what happened in the SF? Unless Federer is injured or really out of form he's not losing to Nadal again outside of clay.

Lol . Nadal is by far at his worse on grass.

Anyway if ever Federer can make a SF at a HC slam maybe we will see but us Rafa fans have given up with federer making it far enough to test out your hypotheses. Bottom line is Rafa holds two Majors on 2 surfaces as does Djokovic...Federer 0. That says it all no?

The grass is perfect for Nadal's game. Nice and slow. Great for baseliners and defenders. No S&V or volleys needed.

You've never played tennis I can tell. ;) Seem like a young one too.
What a strange remark lol. No idea where u live as could be anywhere in the world but wouldnt it be wonderful if we by some coincidence lived near each other. We could have a game. And video it and post online. Would be good fun actually. Im a useless camera man sadly.

Fact you say grass is slow renders any further comment from you lacking in credibility. There are trolls on the internet but the sincerity with which you posted that isnt even a troll it is a genuine belief. All i can say is grass is and always has been and always will be (unless indoor wood courts return or super fast carpet) the fastest surface. If you ever get chance have a hit on grass clay and hard. You will be surprised how different surfaces play with clay slowest and grass fastest.

So Rafa just gave up before the match started?
Nadal the greatest player of this era lost to the 2nd greatest player this era who was at his pet slam not Nadals.

Find me any Nadal fan upset losing to such an Icon as the Great Djokovic in his back yard. As i say win some lose some Rafa won what he needed to in terms of his best events this year...only Indian Wells was missing sadly due to injury and Monte Carlo although once Rafa gets to double digits at an event the odd loss is reasonable.

Grass is slow, mate. 20+ shot rallies on grass on the regular. It's a slow surface.

Hmm, you're right. Nadal fans just accepted Novak's superiority over Nadal off clay and have nothing to say at all. They don't even complain these days because it's just accepted as being the norm.

He hasn´t won 20 yet.

If there is a way to jinx, this is it.
Nadal should get 20 at RG. He's quite above the field there. Not sure he'll contend for AO, Wimby or USO if Djokovic is in top form. Although Djokovic could get knocked off at any of those if he draws Stan or Medvedev. Not sure what shape Grampa Federer will be in for 2020. Looking forward to seeing what some of the young guns can do this coming season.

When do you think Nadal will win #21, which might or might not set the record (if you consider it possible for Federer to win #21 by then).
Ah but what about the other aspects of tennis (other than the 8 weeks of slams). There is the matter of Nadal being 6 wtf’s Behind Federer

And very good it happened. Without it trolls like you wouldn't be able to suffer that blow in the final. And then Nadal got the title in USO to finish you. You can mention that Wimbledon semifinal all day, we all know you just try to feel better at all cost, as you are crying without stop for a few weeks now.

Except I didn't say if I would rank Nadal above Federer or not when he wins #21, did I. That is a seperate discussion altogether. If you want to discuss that better to start your own thread.

I simply don´t agree that Rafa is a shoe-in for FO. If he were always fit and without injury, then you could get away with that claim, but we all know how far that is from being that way.

People use the logic that he has 12 titles so he must win it. I use the opposite logic, Because he has 12, he is getting closer to never winning it again.

Of course he is the favourite, but to already count that one as 20 and discuss 21 as if winning slams was a doddle, that is kind of nuts.

Agreed fully. I guess the best way to say it is that Nadal is the favourite as we speak. We're just giving an early set of predictions in anticipation of the 2020 season. Nobody knows what will happen. Just picking the ones who we'd think are the favourites to win based on history.

your opposite logic is quite logical

Us Open isnt clay. Grass isnt slow either. Nadal 2 Majors this Year Djokovic 2 Majors..very fitting for the 2 greatest players of this era.

I will put it this way. Right now I think his chances to win the Australian are higher than to not win the French.

Rafa ties Fed at AO 2020 reaching 20th GS.
However, Fed manages to win #21st GS at RG 2020.
After that, a new era begins with the following characteristics:
1. No more slams won by any of the Big Three.
2. Big Three steep fall, being beaten by the NextGen mugs and Thiem in all slams before semifinals.
3. Big Three continue to play until their early forties with restricted schedules, focusing on slams as Serena Williams, with a deep run here and there, but never adding a crown.

I like happy endings.

it depends on the aus open result next year......it’s a crucial slam for each one of the big 3 for different reasons......

In years gone by, Nadal would usually have a more modest showing to follow-up a year in which he was dominant.

I could see him getting to 21 next year.

But RG 2021 seems like the likely point for him to reach 21.
