Predicting Nationals: 40 & Over 4.5+ men

@OnTheLine any idea why one women's semi score still not entered and both men's/women's finals scheduled for 6:30 pm? Doesn't sound like rain/weather should have been an issue.

No clue ... definitely no weather issues.

I was emailing the LLC who was handling all the Nationals match inputs on site on a completely different issue at about 3pm our time .... so perhaps you can blame me for taking up her time with our 3-4 email exchange.

I will say that 6:30pm is a default time for a lot of our schedules here ... but has nothing to do with when a match is actually scheduled, just what it defaults to in tennislink .... and it is dark here by 6 so wouldn't think they would want to do that, even though there are lights.

Was it eventually resolved?

@mikeler Most of the teams in Dallas this weekend never even saw the player party. Everyone was still playing. By the time my team came off the court everything was packed up.

Like I said, minor complaints and the explanation above makes total sense.

Was your delay due to rain? I’m with the OP that playing in dry climates at Nationals should be a priority.

I saw the semifinal score - yea curious why Chirici didn't play #1 Singles. Played them at Sectionals and our guy at#1 took him to a 3rd. Played#2 Singles player in dubs at Sectionals. Very solid. Looked like he had an easy time in RR and had all he could handle in the semis until his opponent retired after losing 1st set TB.

He is... Very strong for a 4.5.

Did the numbers say that the players in the match were better than the benched players, and if you are going to throw a court, throw it hard.

They played their two 5.0s, and four of the 4.5s were rated high, but they left two other high rated 4.5s out of the line-up. But, those two don't appear to have made the trip so I think they played their best 8.

I've seen that Chirici guy play at tournaments somewhere a couple times over the years (at least several years ago, though). I'd hesitate to even call him 5.0.

He was threatening 5.5 the last 2 years by my ratings (in the 4.9s each year).

If not then 6.0. LOL. Who knows, though, that was probably 10 years ago, and I think he's probably mid-late 40s now, right? I know my knees have gone downhill a lot in the last 10 years.

There's also the Chirico brothers, who were internationally ranked juniors from NJ and played D1, but they are definitely different.

I can't play singles tournaments anymore, but I used to play open tournaments just for fun to get my ass kicked by guys like Sadik Sendich and Raj Vaswani. Chirici was the only guy those guys couldn't touch.

Saw Chirici lost to Juan Martinez-Arraya a few months back. He beat Chirici 3 & 4 and could only assume that was a really good match. J M-A is really good. Saw one of his matches (J M-A) last year at 40+ 4.5+ Sectionals and was impressed at his game.
