Prediction: Alexander Zverev will be the second player in tennis history to complete the Golden Masters

Yup, you heard here first as they say. Recently I saw none stopping Zed from the Olympic Gold and I was right.

Now I feel like Zed can never fail me, none is stopping the Golden boy from the Masters Gold.

So far, he has won 2/3 clay masters and 2/6 hard masters, and none of the next 5 masters, IW, Paris, IW, Miam and Monte Carlo, I hope he can get one or two of them and the rest will come in the future.

As much as I wan Med to do it I don't see him winning all of the clay masters but Zed is great on clay and hard so it begins..

4 down, 5 to gooooooo

Would Joe Kovic be willing to trade the missing shields for that Tokyo Gold? I say, “Hell, yes!” because he would still have one intact.

Of course we all know (or should) who has been the closest to completing the Golden Masters. Lacks only IW and MC (on both occasions stopped by Rafa).

Zverev still has 5 more to go (IW, Miami, MC, Shanghai, Paris).

How does zverev even win anything. lanky tall thin legs C-shaped posture, always backpedals on the baseline. Absolutely horrible.

Did your bairn have CP in a final at either? One wasn’t even a final so you’re wrong again, Damian. fedr lacks only Rome, where he had CP in 2006, and M-C, where he lost 4 finals. He also won Hamburg before its demotion to ATP500. fedr won Madrid Indoor Masters in 2006 so he has a collection of nine different titles, just not the current nine.

Don't think so buddy. Look at entire 2021. He has lost just because of his own mistakes and to good players. Novak in Australia who was in god mode serving, Tsitsipas in RG was very close and Zverev could literally have finished it in 3 and then that FAA match was disaster but he was playing outside of show courts on windy day and wind really messed up his ball toss.

He has won 2 masters by great play, yesterday Rublev couldn't even do anything it felt like Zverev was playing alone. And same thing in Olympics. He is in zone entire year and has been figuring out his mentality. Once that is done, the results will come out in droves.
Novak on god mode serving in Australia? Zverev was up a break in 3 of the 4 sets.

By Golden Masters I had incorrectly assumed the OP was including the Olympic Gold Medal which Zverev has just won and of course Fed doesn't have. I said Andy who, of course, does have the OSGM, lacks just 2 Masters, IW and MC, but didn't specify finals necessarily. He played 3 semis at MC but each time came up against Rafa who also stopped him in his only IW final.

I know Fed won Hamburg but I was just talking about the current 9. Don't shoot me down in flames!

He is already much better than Roddick and it's not even close. ;)
Roddick and others from that time wouldn't even have a sniff on clay. The "clay mug of the highest order" in Medvedev as described by some, has already surpassed Roddick's best result at RG which was a lone 4R.

Ehh id rather have golden slams and calendar slams. Anyone can luck out on best of 3. The better player doesn’t always win. Real tennis is best of 5. If he can’t win slams it doesn’t matter

Golden Masters is an ATP terminology that’s been around since at least August 2018 when Joe Kovic first completed the feat. It is used to describe the Masters Shield Sweep and is totally independent of Olympics gold medal.

Probably not Big 3 level but Zverev can reach and better the Murray level of versatility. Have him ahead of Wawrinka, Del Potro, Cilic, Thiem, etc in this department. Relevant throughout the year. Highly competent on outdoor slow hard, outdoor fast hard, outdoor slow clay, outdoor fast clay, indoor hard and the various bounces as shown by his spread of titles.

Yes I know but, for some reason, I thought the OP was referring to Zverev's Gold medal win. My bad.

The guy has improved no doubt about it. He seems to struggle more with the top players nowadays compared to his early days where he would struggle in early round matches. Should only be a matter of time before he wins either Australian Open or USO.

It’s a nothing burger accomplishment IMO when you consider a player would have to have been active and in his prime when Tiriac did all his manipulations to promote a Madrid clay venue in the spring at the expense of an established and very prestigious Hamburg and then the reward to the Asian market by establishing Shanghai as a yearly M1K in 2009.

If we created the fictional Golden Masters that includes the Olympic gold we would then have to add Agassi into the discussion but he was already retired by the time Shanghai was rotated in to replace Stockholm/Stuttgart/Madrid indoor. He did win Madrid indoors so the only hole he has if that qualifies as “Shanghai” would be M-C. That makes him closer than either Muzziah or fedr and also actually as close as Joe Kovic with missing only one piece in the 10-piece jigsaw puzzle.

Agassi is also missing clay Madrid's predecessor Hamburg, so that's 2 pieces he's missing like Murray. Both have been closer to winning the fictional Gold Medal-Golden Masters than Fed though.

Yes, for some reason wherever the USTA designated the US Clay Courts (Orlando and Charleston were two cities), and clay in Houston and/or Atlanta took priority over the early spring red clay classics in Europe. I think Agassi played M-C/Hamburg once.

Actually it was coined much earlier...when Nole was first attempting to achieve the feat. Many have always thought the term made no sense (I call it the Grand Masters). If Nole had won the Olympic gold this year, I guess it would've been called Golden-Golden Masters, lol.

What is a "Golden Masters"?
Win all nine Masters AND Olympic Gold?
No man has ever done that. Zed could be the first.
I've explained it in another thread, Golden Masters is a complete collection of titles from that all 9 Masters 1000 tournaments. Despite its name, Golden Masters has nothing to do with the Olympic Gold. Djokovic is the first and only tennis player to reach the Golden Masters (even twice).
