PREDICTION : Federer is not done. Including next years WB, you will see him in at least two slam SFs with one coming within next three slams.

All the players who could trouble Novak are in Fed's half.

Djok is going to play Marton Fucsovics and then Karan Khachanov for a spot in the Finals. Fed will play Medvedev and then FAA or Mateo.

I don't want to hear about Fed's draw being weaker lol

Djokovic's draw is a piece of cake.

However on the bright side, if Fed were to reach the final, we can expect him give a bit of fight to Novak because that would mean he is in a shape and has the form to do so.

Unfortunately the only way I can see Fed winning the Final is if the moment absolutely overwhelms Djok, which is basically impossible to imagine.

Yeah there is no overwhelming him, he is a 19 time champion and he has a huge avalanche of confidence backing his momentum, that win over Rafa on clay and later lifting clay slam has been big for him and dented Rafa too, plus that 40-15 is fresh in the mind.

Only way for Federer to win is to serve like a God, way wide and always on the T line or a straight bazooka like Pete used to deliver.
Novak has to struggle vs the serve, or else no chance if he gets his racquet on every ball.

At least 40-50 aces needed in 4-5 sets.

I cannot believe this error filled Federer can reach a slam final... But that is the pitiful grass competition these days.

He’s completely finished. Physically and mentally. If he had any shred of competitiveness left in him to maybe be a favorite at Wimbledon, he would’ve walked Halle, and he didn’t.

His movement is awful, he can’t stay in matches for long before tiring, and mentally he’s succumbed in so many winning positions this season alone.

It’s time to pack it up and retire. One more legacy run at Wimbledon to the quarters before he bows out of the sport.
I'm gonna look like a genius when Fed throws in the towel next season.

Probably Federer will never meet Djokovic/Nadal again at Slams, because he won't get far enough in tournaments to meet them.

Before people ridicule me :
**However this is STRICTLY subject to whether he gives his full commitment to a long term return or gets frustrated. If he gets hopeless after a poor showing WB, which seems ineveitable,he is done**

Since vacationerrer jas already given up on his career it seems no such comebacks maybe possible

He was a Berettini away from doing it at the French, on his worst surface and on the back of a yearlong absence. SFs are not out of reach.

Except he needed a rehearsed match at both RG (Istomin) and Wimbledon (Mannarino): both of them came to the court without any intention of winning.

I never was a fan of RF, but I would like to see him going like the the big player he is (or was...) , in front of a cheering crowd, not sidelined with injuries.
I was betting it was at 21' Wimbledon, the Olympic games, or at least Basel.
All of these faulted.

He deserves a Sampras-like last hurrah, not a Lendl-like goodbye - if you remember, Lendl last match was at US Open, he asked for a medical time-out, and no one answered, so he just leaved the court, and latter announced he was done.

That's not the right way for a such a player to go out. Not Lendl, and not Fed, for sure

Now I'm betting he will do some kind of farewell tour, and leave on his own.

Wtf? That is awful. How come nobody responded to a medical issue?

Whatever manner he leaves the sport, i'm pretty much sure nobody deserves to have opponents throwing matches on purpose for his benefit, solely because he's a cash cow for the game.

That's totally wrong on all levels and a terrible image for the sport.

Where is this coming from? Is there a conspiracy theory I am missing?

Federer had only a one in sixteen chances to face the older qualifier in RG first rd, and he did.

Pure luck of the draw of course.

Istomin never managed a single break point in the entire match and lost in straight sets.

Mannarino led 2-1 in sets, and although broken in the fourth, would have had a great chance in the fifth based on fitness and youth. He of course chose to retire before the fifth started.

This is getting ridiculous, really.

And god knows what might happen if he does so, maybe he can pull a miracle for his despondent fanbase after all.

Maybe I can bump this and look like million bucks, or someone bumps it to make me look like a fool, but in all honesty I believe it .

I see Federer fans panicking but personally feel from whatever my tennis knowledge , that this guy still has it in him.

I have been posting my reason to believe that for last two hours so I won't repeat them.

But I will simply summarise that his problem stems from not being in match fitness, lack of match play, rust and lack of understanding of his new body limitations after injury.

He works on his serve and at least makes himself capable of playing 3 hours of tennis in a match: He is back in top 20 level. He works on his FH and finds methods for point construction with his new issues: Top 10.

Can't see him go beyond that top 10 level, but maybe for a slam he can crank it up. He needs about 4-5 months to get there.
Now he is a big 3 guy,and as I have seen again and again, they don't function as normal human beings. so who knows if he gets it all together even for WB or USO?
No offence dude but this was a really bad prediction lol, and not just in hindsight.

Having had knee surgery myself, all I can say is that Federer's career is done. Federer's expectations are way too optimistic. He would be a wonderful leader / draw for a successful senior tour.

Yeah right. Aside from the period when Djokovic had elbow issues, Federer won exactly 2 slams in the 10's: '10 AO and '12 Wimb.

Off course he is done, for some time now, but he is milking sponsors money and promotes his shoes brand... And nothing wrong in that, he was mostly tennis player and lesser businessman... now he is mostly businessman and occasionally tennis player... This corona disaster helped him a lot in that transitional period, so it glided smoothly and there are still people that don't realize he's done winning anything important in tennis...

As a projection, this looks as bad now as it was bold then, but it's easy to see why some fans think he may still find the way back on top. He can still dominate rallies or even games based on pure offense before his legs fail him, so good is his shotmaking. The problem is, playing a consistently great game for two weeks is out of his realm now.

If fit i can see Federer gettig close if not winning Wimbledon as on grass hrre are not many players that comfortable. So i would not rule him out winning slam race which if he did at 40 woukd end all debates. Fitness is key though but he sounds much more upbeat than in a couple of years
