Prediction: Nadal will Retire.

My guess is he's going to be back in Doha next year most likely! But my guess is he would probably be in good shape for the aussie

I agree, especially with it being in that wonderful part of the world where he gets a kings ransom money. I think Rafa may even return for the Exhibition Abu Dhabi tournament in late December. The money will call loudly at him! :)

It is a pity Argentina couldn't take advantage of this opportunity yo finally win the DC.[/QUOTE]

yes i agree^^ but the thing is delpo had to pull out! if he was healthy im pretty sure he wouldve beaten berdy

Oh yeah i forgot about Abu Dhabi! yeah fed and rafa go there every year! :) isnt rafa scheduled to play an exo with someone was it end of this year or next year?

LOL forget it then Rafa will not even enter the stadium to watch it! I think Czechs are the HUGE fav now especially with Berdych!

Not too fast. Ferrer is dangerous on fast courts too. US open is the perfect example, almost got to the final. and Fellipo Lopez and Verdasco can power past their opponents on fast courts.

O no not again and again and again...... yawn Nadal is going nowhere.
He is going to get treatments and will come back Running, Retrieving and Raging.
If he retires I will be very surprised.

So I get it that you're upset that he hasn't been all that straightforward with his injury problems. I agree he hasn't, but does he really have to?. It's his health after all, I don't think he's obliged to share it with the world...
I don't understand why people think he hasn't been straight forward. What more do they want him to do or say? He's issued statements, he's had press conferences, his doctors have had press conferences, they've shown diagrams describing exactly what his problems are. Medicine isn't an exact science unless it's something obvious like a broken limb where the bone is sticking out of the skin. When it's a situation like Rafa's knee, the inflammation and years of built up scar tissue would make it doubly difficult to immediately diagnose why this pain was caused by something different than his usual pain but they've kept the public and the media informed all along the way.

I do agree with you that in any case, Rafa is not obligated to share his medical information with anybody. Nobody got their knickers in a knot when Roger pulled out of tournaments last year to 'rest his groin' nor did they demand pictures and doctor's reports. On the other hand, it shows how popular Rafa is and how important he is to the tennis world that after so many months and so many important tournaments and newsworthy events, he's getting more attention than almost anyone else. ;)

This rest and healing period is going to do wonders for him both physically and mentally and I have no doubt he's going to be back next year better than ever.

Did he tell you that personally?

No.

Roger is more admired whereas Rafa is loved. Hence the interest with his knees. I just miss him and want him to come back. I wish I could gift him with a new pair of knees! Hehe!

VernonBC, I like your positive ideology about Rafa coming back strong. Let's hope this materalises as you have stated.

I think this retirement plan of Rafa taken after 2011.His injury problems didnt come to him in one day.İt is long process that his body is breaking down and he also never loved tennis all that much,it was all about money.
All the signals showing he is going to retire with in few months.Resigned from player council, ugly sponsorship deals, reports that he is rude to the fans in the tournaments. This doesnt seem to be a guy who thinks he has few years left.

What's this about?

What's this about?
I heard some stuff like he isnt signing photographs after his practice sessions as he used to.İn last year Us Open fans even shouted please Rafa we wait all day.He gave a bad look on them and then the girl ı spoke said he sent his İtalian PR guy to them to say that he doesnt have any energy for that.
I also heard from Thai girl that Rafa was so rude to the fans in Thailand in 2010,Nadal even said to her he only came there for vacation not to talk with people but the girl said to me he was also playing a tournament in Thailand that year, how can be only a vacation ??

Wow. I hope that stuff isn't true. Also,Nadal's pr guy is not Italian,so I'm not sure who that girl talked to because no way was it Benito.

I think it should have been Benito.Maybe they thought he is İtalian,ı dont know really. There can also be some annoying fans who can make you angry, you know. One thing ı know ı am fan if a player say to me ı am tired,ı dont have energy ı wouldnt be that sad.To sent PR guy to the fans is ugly.

Federer shouted shut up to the fans. I guess this isn't rude though...

No, Fed shouted that at a stupid fan who was rooting for his opponent and called one of his "IN" shots "Out" prematurely, causing him to hesitate and miss hit the next shot coming to him. It's a BS move on his/her part for doing that and Fed put them in their place. Bet they didn't open their mouths again after that. I would have done the same, except there would have been an "F" thrown in there for good measure. ;)

Yep,and I bet you'd feel the same way if Nadal did that, huh? Nadal gets his a** jumped around here for doing way less than that.

hmm I dunno, if it were true, surely there would be 20 threads on the subject already

Well, you can correct me if I'm wrong, but from what I understand when he called that sort of press conference where he talked to several journalists, he just said he had Hoffa's disease and that his tendons were fine. And they announce a while later that he had a partial tear.

I don't see why. Especially if the fans were being rude. This reminds me of some story I read somewhere, about him practising on a private court somewhere and some fans being quite rude in demanding he approached them and signed autographs. It was mentioned that he told them he always signed autographs but he was working, and then Benito told them to leave him alone. And then Rafa signed autographs for them anyway. I wonder if this is the story you're thinking of.

Anyway, you mention he would have been rude to some fans in 2010 in Thailand, in which case that would have nothing to do with him planning to retire.

Uhm, Vernon is basically expressing a hope, which she believes is how it's going to be as well. Somehow saying he's done is OK but this isn't?.

She can express whatever she likes. It's ok to be optimistic, but there comes a point where you have to be realistic, and Vernon rarely is.

Wow, way to twist the story around. This is the incident you're talking about written from a fan

http://www.rafaholics.com/2011/09/rafalinkage-practice-nike-bacardi.html

there where so many people there, I could hear them scream at Rafa, telling him hey get over here & give me your autograph. There was one man who yelled "for the prices I pay for these tickets you should be handing me drinks" & that did if for me.

Told him to shut the eff up! who the hell do you think you are? Rafa is not your effn slave.. I mean these people were so rude to him & demanding that they receive some attention from him.. I felt really bad for him. Rafa stopped practice & finally came over to the fence & told them "please I am working now" "I am always giving autographs & being nice all the time pls let me practice" even Uncle Toni came over & told them to leave Rafa alone & after awhile Benito did too but by that time I walked over to the fence. And after all that Rafa went over after he was finished & signed some autographs for them.. I felt so bad for him

How is that rude? He was being heckled and he signed autographs for them afterwards anyways. Seeing as you completely changed the first story I have a hard time believing the second story from the fan in Thailand.

You shouldn't defame someone before checking your souces.

First you have to understand that ı shared what ı heard,ı didnt copy stuff from an article or something.Second ı am not even sure about it is the same story. The funny thing that you dont believe me but chose to believe a fan side.:):) That fan sides of Rafa like VB and Rafaholics are pathetic. They can even defend Rafa even he murdered someone else.

The last thing is few incidents in players career is normal. These players also human. They can get grumpy and angry just like everyone else. The problem is when that behavior is becomes so common rather than just a grumpy day.

Thanks for finding it. That's the story I was remembering and clearly the story Mistik was thinking of.

The funny thing is, you posted hearsay which you somehow barely remembered and completely twisted around.

And why wouldn't a first person account be more believable?. You clearly had no idea what you were talking about.

Rafa just posted Golf video on facebook.I wish him all the best,if he decides to try Golf. All the signals shows that he will never turn back to tennis.Which is really sad.

All he did was post a video of lucky golf shots that he liked. Nadal is not going to be a pro golfer.

Ralph certainly has my full support to pursue his career in golf. That sport is boring anyway so he'll fit right in.

Clarky .It isnt all that easy anyway, but maybe he will try.I doubt that he will be successful.

If he does switch to golf he will fail. Nadal is far from being good enough to compete at the pro level. Hopefully he knows that and doesn't make a fool of himself.

The thing is that ı begin to feel his injury is career threatening.İf there is any chance to turn back to tennis,ı think he will but ı begin to doubt it very highly .Golf will be his main hobby. He will try to test himself to see what he is capable off.

The guy cant even talk hopefully of playing AO. That says it all.He will probably give it a try in clay court season then fade away.

Do you have a crystal ball? If you do, smash it to pieces because you are the worst predictor I have ever seen. Nadal is not done yet, now stop polluting the threads with these stupid baseless predictions based on your Nadal hate. Even though I am more of a Federer fan, I find them annoying and silly. Enough already.

Yeah, I'm thinking this Mistik guy is just a troll, some Nadal hater posing as a disappointed Nadal fan, or whatever ridiculous thing he's trying to pose as.

Funny, I heard from a number of Thai people, and people from several other Asian countries that went to Thailand just to see Rafa, that he was wonderful with the fans and talked to them a lot and signed autographs and had pictures taken with them. Go search the archives at Nadal News and you'll find all sorts of stories from ecstatic fans.

Hi Crisstti. You're right that at the presser where he talked about the Hoffa's syndrome he did say his tendons were fine. 'Fine' is probably relative. His tendons will never be fine as he has caused too much damage to them and there is too much scar tissue built up but the treatments he has had have gotten them into relatively good shape. It's my understanding that the small tear was discovered after they managed to reduce the inflammation from the fatty pad impingement although Tio Toni said the fat has hardened so treatment is going more slowly than they had hoped.

I don't claim to know a lot about medicine but I read a lot and from personal experience I know a fair bit about athletes and their bodies and I do know that pros put their bodies through stresses that normal bodies aren't meant to be put through. It doesn't surprise me a bit when the medical experts aren't able to immediately diagnose problems and give definitive information, not just about Rafa but about most other tennis players either, e.g. Monfils' knee, Del Potro's wrist, Hewitt's foot problems. Hopefully, for instance, Delpo's wrist will be good after two weeks of immobilization but if it's not, I don't think either he or his doctors will be criticized and ridiculed and held up for intense scrutiny like Rafa has been.

Crisstti said:

Crazy isn't it? If it's negative garbage it's fine. If it's positive hope, it's time to call people names.
