predictions for 2007?

just curious what everyone's predictions were for the slams in 2007, here are mine:

australian: a dark horse, probably one of the younger players like gasquet or murray, but I could see safin winning it, he certainly seemed good enough at the US open to atleast be considered a threat. anyway, whoever it is will beat federer in the semis and nadal in the final

french: nadal, beating federer in the final again (I'd give fed a 25% chance to take the title though)

wimbledon: federer, seems like the only way he could lose this is if he steped on a landmine on his way back to his hotel room

US open: roddick, probably beating federer along the way, Roddick's seemed to gotten his mojo back and has figured out how he can beat federer (or at least come close) and I dont think federer will take Roddick very seriously which will end up hurting him

Australian final - Federer beats Nalbandian
french final - Federer beats Davydenko
Wimbledon - Federer beats Tursunov
US Open final - Federer beats Gonzalez

For me the only question hinges on the French Open. I hope Federer wins it.

As for who the finalists will be in each, am really not sure. If I had to guess, I would say Nadal and Fed at the French. Roddick (If he keeps his plan) and Fed at Wimbledon. And maybe Blake and Fed at the US open. I have no guess as to Australian aside from Fed, opponent could be anyone. (providing that Blake and Roddick aren't on the same side of the draw as Fed obviously)

I think Federer's got his 5th Wimbledon title, of the 4 slams, I'd have to say this one is the one I think he's got without a doubt. The US open is probably the next one in terms of will he win it, then Australian, then French Open.

Austrailian Open- Federer beats Nadal
French Open- Federer beats Nadal
Wimbledon- Federer beats Roddick
US Open- Federer beats Safin

I think that next year is the calender slam year for Federer. He has been playing great, has beaten Nadal two straight meetings and is improving his backhand a lot. He knows his own perceived weaknesses, and works hard to overcome them. If he continues to improve between now and the AO, then I think he can do it.

Aussie final - FedEx beats Davydenko
Roland Garros final - FedEX beats Nadal
Wimby final - FedEx beats Roddick
U.S. Open final - FedEx beats Blake

2008 - FedEx calls it quits and becomes a fashion designer.

Aussie Open Nadal beats Federer in 5 sets
French Open Nadal beats Federer in 4 sets
Wimbledon Federer beats Roddick in 3 sets
US Open Federer beats Berdych in 4 sets.

lol I love all the people picking Federer on clay. I guess all the other matches didn't prove Nadal is better on clay. I am going against the odds to though with Nadal at the Australian Open.

I pick Federer on clay because he came so close in Rome, and put up a good fight at RG, and has had another year to gameplan and get the backhand really going. Add to that that he has two wins in a row and some newfound confidence in himself against Nadal, I think that the French is a good possibility.

As long as it doesn't rain right before the match which makes the ball bounce lower than Nadal will continue to put forehands up high on Federer's backhand. Federer will never be able to consistently be successful with that high backhand. It breaks down.

I personally think Blake has a better game than Roddick, because he takes the ball so early, especially on the backhand side.

I pick Blake to remain in the top ten and make two runs at slams. ONe will be at Wimby and on the other will be at the USO.

I wouldn't say never. Federer is one of the most talented players to ever pick a racquet up, and if he sets his mind to something, I'd be hard pressed to bet against him doing it. His backhand is much better right now than it was at the 2006 FO. If it improves even more between now and then he has a good shot to beat Nadal. You are correct that it has broken down in the past, but I think with the improvement in his game, not to mention in the h2h, he has a real shot.

His improvement is all based on the surface he plays. The ball doesn't bounce that high on hard courts compared to clay. It is in a comfortable position for him to hit it at. Just look how much better his backhand was at Wimbledon compared to the French Open. His backhand was good at the US Open but not quite as good as Wimbledon.

I understand the difference in bounce between clay and grass/hc, but my point is that Federer himself has said recently, I had to improve the backhand because a lot of players were going there because it was my weak side. Their match last year was a four setter that saw a tiebreak in the fourth. Federer has a couple of moments that he just didn't capitalize on. That third set service game where he led 40-0 and then got broken comes to mind. If he does indeed improve on that backhand (which has already happened), he will be that much tougher for Nadal to beat. Considering that Federer plays Nadal tough on clay, held match points in Rome, and always shows up big for the GS, I like his chances.

Aussie open - RAFA beats hewitt in 4 sets
French open - RAFA beats Gonzalez in 5 sets
Wimbledon - Fed beats Roddick in 5 sets
US open - Roddick beats Berdy in 5 sets

Thus WE WILL HAVE A NEW #1 IN THE WORLD GREAT RAFAEL NADAL, and this will be the first and continual downfall of Federer....................

I guess you are trying to be creative but Berdych Cannot possibly get to the French final, he just does not have the game for it.

Interesting...hmm..correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that pretty much what everyone said regarding Rafa and Wimbledon? I have very high hopes for Berdych - I think he can..I think he can..:-D

AO: Fed Vs Safin/Gasquet
FO: Fed Vs Nadal
Wimbly: Fed Vs Roddick
USO: Fed/Blake Vs Roddick/Berdych

I think Fed will take 3, i c him takin the french and 4 sum reason not takin the USO... I think next year will b a big year 4: Roddick, Ancic, Gonzo and Berdych, Gasquet and murray may have another year b4 breakin top10.. Also Masters series:
Clay: Rog/nadal/Robredo
Hard: Rog/Roddick/Blake/Gasquet/Berdych
Grass: Hewiit/Rog/Roddick/Blake

AO: Federer d. Nadal (or some young un's, or even Safin... hmm.. gotta wait and see what Safin's like though.)
FO: Nadal d. Federer
W: Federer d. Roddick
USO: Blake d. Federer (well, one can hope)

I don't know, but I think next year will be a great fun. Lots of new blood coming up the ranks and all. I'm looking forward to Blake, Murray, Baggy, and well... I look forward to the Round Robins too.
I wonder what effects the changes will have on people's game plans, or even results.

And I am still praying that Federer changes his mind and play the DC tie with Spain, and hopefully we can see a Fed v. Nadal thing going on.

AO: Nadal, Blake, Safin will be most improved here, I don't see Roger in the final and if he is there he gets there by a very slim margin, Blake wins

FO: We see all the usual spaniards, but Richard Gasquet makes it to quarters, and the rest of the french players wow the fans, Roger and Nadal are in Final, Roger either gets closer than ever and loses or finally wins to a Nadal that just can't seem to get his clay court play going

Wim: We see the most talent ever at 2007 wim, everyone that should be there is there and healthy, all your fav names, Andy Murray and Andy Roddick battle to show who is most improved here to make it to the final to face Roger (if not on his side to begin with) Nadal attempts to reduplicate last years impossbile final (which he quandered anways) but get knocked out early. Final is much scetchier for Roger in 2007 and has a very very close scare but of course wins

USO: Everyone is still there to battle it out, players that will most stand out are Andy Murray, Andy Roddick, Blake, Safin, Roger loses

So IMO I have Roger almost wining the AO,FO, but for sure wins the Wim and loses the USO

Nadal will have a bad year altogether if he does not win the AO, but some how Nadal always faces Berdych or Blake before the final LOL

Australian: Hewitt beats Safin
French: Nadal beats Federer
Wimbledon: Roddick Finally beats Federer
US open: Roddick beats Federer once again

AO- Federer whips on Safin
French- Federer whips on Nadal
Wimbledon- Federer whips on Roddick
US- Federer ships on Blake

Ausie Open= Federer beats Roddick
French Open= Nadal beats Federer
Wimbly= Federer beats Roddick
U.S Open= Roddick beats Federer (finally!!)

Australian Open - Definitely Federer or Nadal, and yes, I do expect them in the final without a doubt

French Open - Nadal, no question, will pick up his game again once clay season rolls around. I actually can see some other players taking out Federer here, and him possibly not reaching the final.

Wimbledon - Federer, without a doubt. And Nadal will NOT make the final again.

Us Open - Safin????

AO: Nalbandian d. Federer
FO: Federer d. Ferrer
W: Federer d. Roddick
US: Nalbandian d. Federer

Year end rankings: 1. Fed, 2. Nalbandian, 3. Roddick.

After what happened, I'm sure Federer will take Roddick seriously.

I think Australian and French will not be Federer but US ans Wimby will be won by Federer. But then they might speed up the Aussie courts.

why didnt you say nadal would destroy hewitt and would destroy gonzo?

rest assured, federer will disappoint you again, lol!

Well, i did give Fed the Wimbledon title, right? What more do you want??

lol...i just expected you to put like nadal will destroy anyone at roland garros and it all starts at the AO because patrick mcenroe said so

btw to let you know pete sampras is my favorite tennis player, but right now federer's as close as you get to sampras

what if this happened...what would you do and what would rafa's best friend do?

AO- federer d. nadal 6-1 6-4 6-7 6-4
RG- federer d nadal 6-2 3-6 7-6 5-7 11-9 (for his 11th grand slam)
W- federer d nadal 6-0 6-2 6-1
USO- federer d nadal 6-4 6-4 6-2

TMC- federer d nadal 6-1 7-5 6-0

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

just kidding!

I'm hoping for:

AO: Hewitt
RG: Nadal
W: Federer
USO: Roddick

Their respective slams, I think.

But with Federer still going strong:

AO: Federer
RG: Federer
W: Federer
USO: Federer

And I want the TMC to go to Ljubicic!

I just want Roger too win Wimbledon and the U.S Open again. If he takes the french open, i would be ecstatic.I think Clay is a surface which he can dominate if he puts all the work too it.

Australian Open: Fed beats Nalbandian
French Open: Fed beats Nadal
Wimbledon: Fed beats Rod Dick
Us Open: Fed beats Berdych
