Presentation for tennis courts

Our small town recently bought 70 acres from the forest service to turn into a city park. The plans that I have seen show baseball fields and equestrian trails. I would like to make a presentation to the city council extolling the benefits of building at least two tennis courts to be part of the park. At the moment our town doesn’t have any courts that are playable. I’m looking for talking points such as: sport for a lifetime, anyone can play and it only takes two people, cost of two courts, etc. Can somebody point me to some literature or expert? Maybe a good speaker? Thanks.

Another suggestion - see if you can get some tennis playing people to sign a petition to show support for the courts. Also, if you are granted time to present, have your tennis supporters show up.

Maybe contact your local USTA rep and see if they have any idea or information (such as USTA members in your area) that you can use.

The National Parks and Recreation Board has a joint effort with the USTA to put new or improve existing tennis courts in public parks.

You can start here --> http://www.nrpa.org/usta

Hi,

Yes.. both of these groups have some cash for both purposes. The total amount of money is very small but every bit counts. It also helps to show that you are comitted to the effort by bringing cash/grant applicatons to the table. Our little town has a person on the Town Board that is dedicated to grant writing. There might be someone like that in your area. Also, check to see if there are grants for diverse groups. Many times there is more grant funds in those areas. The USTA effort is good, they just do not have the money to fund court building. All the other ideas are excellent. BTW.. you can also go after private money (business, banks, health care compaines. etc)

Go get em...

Thank you all for your excellent suggestions. I will contact my local USTA person and follow up on the other ideas.
Thanks, Bruce
