Prestige Classic- Similar Racquets?

Freestyle

New User
Hi all,

Currently, my racquet of choice is the Head Prestige Classic 600. However, it's nigh on impossible to find any new these days, and I am running a little sparse. What racquets would you recommend that are clones/similar to the PC600? I'm not looking for anything too different; it's really my dream racquet with a bit of lead tape added.

I recently had a hit with a friend's AG 100; it reminded me of the Prestige Tour 600 (not the PC600 for some reason). You may want to consider demoing this since the price is quite attractive. However you may have to mod it a bit as the one I tried had some lead added to the hoop.

Thanks for the reply. I've never hit with the Prestige Tour; how does it compare to the Classic?

Finding them new is a very expensive proposition. Used is a bit better price-wise (unless it's an Austrian) although you don't know how much the frame has been played. The obvious choice would be the Microgel Prestige mid or the upcoming Youtek Prestige mid. Pro Kennex has the Redondo Type C mid or the Black Ace mid. Wilson has the KBlade Tour. However, they have a much different feel (the closest would probably be the Redondo because of the flex) however nothing would feel as plush as the Prestige Classic. However, as someone who used to use the Prestige Classic 600 full-time, I'm really digging my Volkl Power Bridge 10 mid. It has that old school feel and flex. The 16x19 pattern allows me the option of hitting more spin but can also drive the ball pretty much the same as when I was using the Prestige Classic. Now since you add lead to the Prestige Classic, none of the frames I mentioned are going to play quite the same; if you don't add a ton of lead, why not try to match up the spec of a demo frame to your Prestige Classic? It should help a bit with your decision. Happy hunting/hitting!

Very similar. same mold, pt has a suspension grip made of plastic so the racket is very slightly heavier and a tad more flexible and a slightly lower HL balance due to the added handle weight.
Look in "classics" there are a number of threads on these rackets.

I love these old head rackets, never felt anything like them but the problem is being able to get hold of them.
TW sold the TGK pro sticks recently and a bloke in Belgium was selling on the bay some pro sticks straight from Austria. Other than that there are the volkls/pro kennex that have that flex feel.
Me, I play the kps 88 now cos its an old skool frame and is made now. I think its the nearest to those Head rackets I like (graphite pro/Comfort Edge), not in spec so much but all round playability and feel.
Ive gone thro a number of modern rackets and find them rather tinny and not as well made, didnt like modern yonex supposedly known for their workmanship, fischer/volkl/pk i really liked but a bit too flexy for that added boot when needed.
I found modern head mids less powered than their older name sakes.

I would try Wilson Pro Staff ROK imo its wilsons effort at a prestige, I love this racket and am still thinking it might be the one for me.
Dont get disheartened by the power level and dense stringbed pattern is has power to boot, great at the net, pro staff stability, flexy (60) but stiff at the same time (??) great serve and baseline too, not too much spin, similar to the prestige in tha way.

The Prestige Tour I had had the suspension grip removed, so for all intents and purposes, it played very similarly to the PC600. However, I felt that the PC600 had a slightly plusher feel and touch shots were slightly better; also the pC600 I had was slightly more powerful compared with my Prestige Tour 600.

How did you remove the SG handle? Did you replace it with a PC600 handle? Where can one get a replacement handle?

The racket came from Japan, bought through "the bay"; the previous owner said the suspension grip was replaced with a "silicone" pallet, professionally done by a racket technician.

Thanks for the replies. As for the new Prestiges, I don't particularly like them too much. The PC600 is just so much more plush. That's a good tip about Volkl/Pro Kennex. Fisher doesn't make a midsize however, I believe. So right now I'm looking at the following racquets to demo:

1. Volkl PB10 Mid
2. Pro Kennex Type C Redondo
3. Pro Kennex Black Ace 93
4. Topspin X 90 - Apparently a PC600 clone? There was a thread on it in here a while ago.

Just my view, but I don't think you should necessarily do a short-list based on 18 X 20 string-patterned rackets.

The idea was to make a list of racquets similar to the PC600. People seem to be saying that the flexy Pro Kennex and Volkl's feel similar, so I think trying the mids seems like a good idea.

Actually roundiesee is right, the PC600 is a very unique frame, even the latest prestige mids don't capture the same feel.

The redondo is way too soft n under powered to compare it to the PC600. Perhaps the head pro stock mid might play right but unless one of us gets a soft, solid, stable stick. The pc600 is a pc600.

i feel like the pro stock head microgel prestiges are kind of similar...probably a little stiffer, but i think i'm enjoying them more than the PC600 (am i allowed to say that?)...another similar choice would be the new babolat pure storm gt ltd...worth a demo...or some of the dunlop frames in the 18x20 string pattern...

Just my 2c, but the Type C Redondo is severely underpowered in comparison to the Prestige Classic.

I suppose Mawashi is right about no frames being the same. But I do need a new frame, so in any case, I guess I'll be demoing. My coach is Head-sponsored and just got the Youtek Prestige (Mid, MP, and Pro :D) so maybe I'll try hitting with them on Friday.

I fear you are right. I've just sunk a lot of money into running down old Liquidmetal Prestige mids and rehabilitating them.

Always at the back end of a trend, I guess.

Even though the LM gets little love I liked it. I thought the Flex sucked, and didn't care for the MG.

The YT is sweet though.

Sure, you are allowed to state your opinion. I hit with a Babolat PSL GT and an AG100 for a few sessions. They are quite similar to the PC600 when lead tapes at 3 & 9 o'clock are added.
I'm waiting for the YT Prestige to come out soon.

Roundisee that is really cool what you had done with the suspension grip, I remember we had huge problems when they came out in the early 90s with the grip system(I worked for Head in Oz), because it kept breaking away from the frame. I always preferred the classic, it was hard to find a replacement for it.
Maybe the Youtek will be similar and an improvement??

I doubt any of them plays similar but you might find something to replace your PC600 amongst the 3.

I'll most surely be demoing the mid & mp when they're out : )

If you have the chance to demo the dunlop ag100 it's a nice solid stick too.
