Prince Air Launch MP - Finish has melted?

Hi. I pulled out my father's old Prince Air Launch MP which had been sitting in my climate controlled closet for many years. I had a tough time pulling it out of the case, and once I did , I saw that the paint finish had become very sticky and looked like it had partially melted.

This line of racquets had a kind of soft touch finish. One could say that this soft touch finish was the predecessor to the matte finish that is unfortunately too common these days on racquets.

Has anyone experienced this with old Prince racquets (the Air Launch is from 2003)? Is there a way to get rid of the stickiness (rubbing alcohol or dish soap perhaps)? Or is this racquet permanently damaged?

I pulled off the grip, and it was neat to see the air handle. It is hollow.

Thanks for your help!

The Head iPrestige and Prince “More” racquets (More Sticky, More Slimy?) seem to suffer acutely from this malady.

Could be worse, though: Ferrari used a similar rubberized treatment on the knobs of the 550 Maranello that tends to break down in the same way... imagine having such a fine, expensive automobile with absolutely disgusting controls!

Fortunately HEAD corrected the paint on the i.Prestige after the first year.
