Prince and Gamma suggestions

Hi,

Could you suggest the best stuff from Prince and Gamma? That's all shops seem to be carrying these days; at least that's all my dad could recall last time he got a frame of mine strung. I was thinking of just getting it strung with PSGD 16 again. I'm looking for a good well-rounded string, the least expensive if possible LOL. I'm looking to experiment to find the perfect string for me and PSGD 16 is the best I've got so far... As soon as this Stamina breaks, I will most likely replace it with a different string...

Thanks in advance

Prince:

Lightning Power (the higher priced Lightning)
Polygut (polyester -- use in mains with a synthetic in the crosses -- a hybrid)
Prince Premier w/Softflex

Gamma:
Syn Gut or Syn Gut w/Wearguard
Live Wire Revelation
Live Wire XP
XL 16
TNT Prodigy
forget their polys

Gamma strings do not keep their tension very long IMHO. I use to use the live wire and they tend to go dead after a short while. Sort of like "board" quality, no power. I stopped using Gamma. My stringer only carries Gamma brand so I get my strings from TW and have him string my racquets.

Gamma's best offering is the Revelation. The rest of the line is unimpressive at best, though the Synthetic Gut with Wearguard is okay. Plays similar to the PSGD.

Prince has the classic Synthetic Gut line that will live forever. The standard by which many synthetics are measured. The Lightning is a good playing string if you are not a string breaker.

I'm using Revelation 17 @ 57lb in my HPS 6.0 right now. Very good feel but a bit more pop than what I'm used to. I might try it with Hurricane 18 in a hybrid to see what it's like

mctennis,

A big name stringer, back when Gamma TNT Prodigy came out, said it played extremely well the first time but lost tension a lot before the next time.

Funny ... it's played well for me, held tension well, and lasted well.

Different strokes for different folks.

I have played a few Gamma strings in the past, whose names I can't recall, and I remember that they lost tension, and quickly I might add, after the first time. So, I can relate to mctennis. It might have been the horrible stringer I had then, so it doesn't hurt trying out some of these suggestions even it's for the second time.

Just an update on the Revelation: It's been around 4-5 hours and it plays pretty well. Moves less than most multis and synguts I've used and seems to hold tension well. Small notches are forming at the intersections but I think it'd still be good for another 10-15 hours.

I ended up getting PSGD 16 again. I just can't manage to waver from it. A Tecnifibre string did catch my attention and it was right around the max price I am allowed for strings at $25. I was curious but just couldn't follow through. Part of what turned me off is it recommended to lower the tension by 10 percent, I believe, so it got a little iffy. The max tension is the most suited to me, and I would raise my tension before lowering it at all.

I found shops carrying stuff from Dunlop, Head, Tecnifibre, and Wilson also. Could I get some recommendations on the best from these companies? I have a poly or poly/gut combo in mind. Something that plays like Luxilon, maybe....

Gamma Prodigy. It's a new string for Gamma. I was impressed .... seemed to depart from the characteristics of most Gamma strings .. played less lively and very controlled. The jury is still out on durability .... have about two hours on a set. Has a good crisp feeling ........But as usual .... over priced like most gamma strings. Played well in a Wilson N Code 90.

In my Head LM 2, I like Gamma Revelation 17 at 57# and Gamma TNT Fat Core at 57#. Both have very nice combination of feel, control, and power. They also maintain tension well. I'm not sure if the Revelation is $5/set better than Fat Core, however.

I've compared Prince Synthetic Gut Original to Head Synthetic Gut. While Prince it has slightly better feel initially, it loses tension much quicker than Head. My selection is Head over Prince. I've also tried Prince Synthetic Gut with Duraflex, but it didn't have as much feel as the Original.

I have to agree that there are many overpriced string sets, but with so many different strings on the market, with a little experimentation, everyone should be able to find a string that fits their needs.

I string my own racquets, so string consistency is much more important than durability for me.
