Prince Lightning Specifications

I have a Prince Lightning tennis racket that I've been playing with for 19 years! But for at least 10 years, I've had forehand tennis elbow (golfer's elbow). I'm developing a new swing that helps, but I think it's time for a new racket. Duh!

I'd like to avoid unwittingly buying a racket with similar specs. So does anyone remember the specifications for the Prince Lightning Oversize racket? I know it has 16 main strings and 19 crosses, and I measure it at 27 inches long. But I'm not sure the stiffness, weight, etc.

Thanks,
Scott

If I remember correctly, that racket had a huge beam and the strings were staggered. It was also very light which doesn't help the tennis (golfers elbow). I would look to get something in the mid to upper 10oz. range (unstrung) that has a slightly smaller beam and head size. Something like a Prince EXO3 Red is a great racket for being oversized and having the O ports should help with the arm problem.

No he is talking about the CTS Lightning that came in 90 and 110. It had a Constant tapered beam that at it's widest point was 26mm. It was in the 12oz range strung.

I found the specs for the 90

But since you have Golfers Elbow I recommend you look at the Pacific XForce and XForce Pro.

Give those racquets a demo and see how they feel.

Thanks for the responses. When I bought my rackets, I wasn't concerned with elbow problems. I'm going to be careful this time around and demo rackets with the elbow in mind. I'm heading to the pro shop this afternoon. I'll definitely try your racket suggestions. Thanks again.

I had GE for over 15 months. I used to be a Prince guy but most of their rackets are too stiff. Look for a racket with a stiffness rating that is low 60s or less. You may find those in the high 50s feel like noodles because they are so flexible you can feel the racket bend. My racket has a stiffness of 62 so I don't feel it bend but my elbow thanks me on each shot. Also make sure that you are using softer strings like natural gut or multifilaments. Ditch the poly and kevlar for a while. I'd go with a string under 200 in stiffness. Good luck.

Be a little bit careful that you don't go down too much in terms of racquet weight compared with your Lightning.

This site:

racquet research dot com

has some excellent information about racquet specs that are more likely to prevent elbow and shoulder injuries. Highly recommend you take a look at it.

Good luck.
