Tiny update: really not liking Blue Rock N Power. Not sure what I’ll go to next but I am curious: do any of y’all string the 93P 1-piece? I’ve done 2 piece every time and I’m not sure it would matter, I’m just curious.

There's currently a discussion thread in the Stringing Techniques / Stringing Machines sub forum talking about 1 piece vs 2 piece that might be of interest to you:

It’s the only erratic-feeling string I’ve played so far in the 93P. What sets this frame apart is its precision and feel. Blue Rock N Power managed to tank both of those attributes. There’s a chance it mellows out; I’ve only logged about 1.5 hours with it. But I’m not holding my breath. Plus, it was SOOOO unpleasant to string.

I was considering trying it, but read many other negatives reviews, as well. For example, low powered, harsh, massive tension loss, etc.
Yeah the 93P is a great frame. I have one of mine strung with an Alu Power Rough hybrid, and I get so much enjoyment playing with it--great feel, with power on tap when I need it, touch when I want it, and so much precision.

Still enjoying the Legend/Ghostwire Hybrid. Can't feel any deadness in the poly and its been at least 15-20 hrs in the frame.

Great control and solid spin and touch is still there for laying down drop volleys and drop shots.

Now I’m tempted to hybrid instead of full gut...

Do it. Unless your arm can't take any poly.

Gut/Poly makes the price of gut stringbed more palatable.
My arms ok with a hybrid till the poly goes dead, I end up restringing well before the gut is going to break, so I thought I’d go full bed of gut figuring at least I’d get use of the gut till it snaps.

I usually hybrid with Lux Alu Power Rough or Volkl Cyclone Tour, have previously tried Ashaway ZX Pro.

The temptation is ghostwire sounds like it lasts longer than other polys and the extra spin would be nice.

I've been happy with Ghostwire and Cream until the gut snaps. It's hard to tell when those polys go dead if ever. Whereas Max Power and Proline II, I could tell when they'd lost their resilience.

I think soft polys have enough additives to maintain resilience that they don't get that classic "dead poly" feeling. At least my elbow doesn't notice it. And I have a pretty sensitive elbow.

The trade off is they aren't as muted as a firm poly so the stringbed has more liveliness. That may effect control for some but I find in an 18x20 93 sq in frame, control is far from the issue. A little extra liveliness is a good thing.

So I finally took the plunge and strung my Diadem solistice powe 17 at 33lbs and played 3 sets of doubles today and absolutely love it. Perfect blend of touch feel and power for me. I had tried the same string before at 45lbs before and absolutely hated it. Felt too boardy and hurt my elbow ( I have an elbow problem) on the serves. None of those issues when I strung it at 33. I'll try it at 30 next time and see what impact that has :)

Before this I was using volkyl cyclone tour 16 in main and volkyl cyclone tour 18 in crosses, both at 45lbs and absolutely loved it, the only downside being it would start over hitting the ball after around 6-8 hours of play.

The Diadem solistice power 17 at 33 is actually playing better for me. More control and similar power compared my usual string combo

My Tourna Big Hitter Silver 18 is settling in really nicely. Around hour 5 or 6 now and it does pretty much everything I ask. I played my best set of doubles in years last night (a pretty informal setting but still, a 7-5 win over a skilled team) so I probably will leave this one in until it dies, then just re-up with it, or with something wicked similar.

Updated rankings (all in the 18x20 93P):
1) RS Lyon 1.20
2a) Tourna BHS 1.20
2b) Solinco Hyper G 1.15
3) Solinco Outlast 1.15
4) Blue Rock N Power
Last: Solinco Revolution 1.15 and gut/poly (just not my cup of tea)

Still to demo: KB PLII 1.15, SPPP 1.18, thinner gauges of the Solinco offerings.

I have been using Volkl Cyclone hybrids. When I first got my 93P, I had it strung with Pyscho 17. Great spin potential. More comfortable and control perhaps a bit muted feel off the string bed. The Cyclone mains took about 2 weeks of play before chewing up the Power Fiber crosses.

Next, I did a hybrid of Cyclone 19 with Prince Syn Gut Duraflex 17 (I have a reel of each I need to use up). I felt that I was getting much more pop out of this hybrid and it was a much more lively string bed. I loved it from the baseline, but i could have used a little more touch at the net (especially since I'm not seeing the ball was well as I would like at the net). It took about a week for the Cyclone to eat through the PSGD.

Finally, I testing out Cyclone 19 mains with Isospeed Cream 17. I feel like their was a notable difference between the weight of the Cream and PSGD. I could swear that the 93P felt slightly head heavier. It took about a hour to get used to. It was a pretty comfortable set up for two polys. It was a deader feeling string bed. I felt like their was more ball pocketing, or perhaps the string bed just had less power than the prior tow setups. I had an easier time driving the ball with aggressive. I felt this set up had the most control at the baseline and at the net. On serve, this has slightly less power on flat serves and a little less action on kick serves. I have about ten plus hours of play on this string bed with no signs of notching.

At some point, I would like to compare this hybrid to a full bed of CyberFlash and a Hybrid of Cyclone and Isospeed Pro Classic.

You're not imagining it. Since I got my 93P (18x20), I went through fullbed syn gut (16G), fullbed poly (RS Lyon 1.20, Still-in-black HTS 1.20), and now gut/poly (VS Team 1.25/YPTF 1.25). From fb syngut to fb poly wasn't too bad, but from fb poly to gut/poly I could feel the balance and weight change. So much so that I've added weight to top of handle to restore it back to its HL balance point. My next string job will not but gut/poly any more, or if I do, will go for the thinnest possible poly.

I'm using 17g gut with 19g poly. That may be why i don't notice any head heaviness. And it ups the spin potential nicely.

I found 16g felt too boardy in the 93P. Kept lowering the gauges and enjoying the feel and spin more.

When I played with an 18 Alu soft at 48 or so, it felt mushy, and I was really bothered by the weight difference. I haven't noticed a boardy effect, though I, strangely enough, hit very well when I had the Alu soft strung in the racquet before. I think there might have been a tension difference from the stringer or something.

I suspect you might be hitting harder and need a bit stiffer string bed to get the same feeling I get from thinner gauges and lighter swinging. :)

The 93P feels the best with 18G poly at 48lbs, imo. Even the Tecnifibre Ice Code 17G feels a bit too thick in that frame.

Ice Code plays amazing for me on the 14x18 but agree I would not string it on the 18x20 unless it came at a thinner gauge. Thin gauge gut/poly was my favorite on the 18x20 and it lasted so long!

Wow, y'all are making me wonder how good it can get with the right stringbed! I've got a demo 18x20 from TW right now with what the sticker says is Prince Premier Control at 57(!) lbs and it plays and serves wonderfully. If a good poly or hybrid is even better, then I'm sold...

You can get a way better stringjob than PPC at 57lbs. Low tension full poly string beds or gut/poly work really well in that frame. Like others, I prefer the thinner gauges for tighter string beds. 17g gut with 19g poly crosses is very nice.

Okay, I'm ordering a 93P after this weekend. I won a Fast 4 tournament 50+ division with the TW demo racquet and the PPC stringbed. Awesome groundstrokes and serve placement was impeccable. I want to order pre-strung with Hyper-G 18, but what tension should I start with?

I currently use Hyper-G 17 at 48/46 in my ProStaffs, if that's any help. Probably try Firewire Boost after this, but want the racquet ready to go when it arrives.

When I ordered my first 93P that’s the exact string and gauge I asked for. For tension I went with 45 and I loved it.

Well I think my Ghostwire is dead. Was hitting with gut/Ghostwire and it felt strangely harsh. Must be 25-30 hrs into the string bed.
Think I’ll look at slightly lower tension on the poly.

Played two hours of pretty competitive singles today, alternating between my main 93P (currently strung with Tourna BHS 1.20) and my backup 93P (with KB Pro Line II 1.15). Both were fun but I give the slight edge to BHS. I found the control to be a little better but I didn’t lose much in the spin department. I might mess around with thinner strings, but going forward my main setup will be 1.20 gauge — I just feel like it provides the best of both worlds, especially since I’m not a string breaker.

FWIW, even though the strings performed similarly, they do feel different. PL II is more crisp and lively while BHS is more muted. I prefer a more muted feel, but those who don’t should definitely give PL II a try.

I can tell you which string set-up is NOT great for the 93P 14x18: Yonex Poly Tour Spin 16L at 48 lbs.

Lasted me 4 hours before exploding. Now, the very open string pattern doesn't help, but I was getting 7-8 hours of Hyper G 16L in this frame.

And 12 hours of Hyper G 17 in the 93P 18x20.

I know the 14x18 is a string eater (my Prince Graphite Pro 90 was similar, when I was playing it in the 80's), but 4 hours is astonishingly bad.

Another one of the reasons I prefer 18x20 string beds. Durability. I never understand why rec players with powerful strokes use open string patterns. You are paying for your strings and the pros aren't. And even a good number of pros use 18x20's to maintain string life.

I mean if you are breaking plastic in 4 hours that's getting ridiculous. Imagine putting a multi in that frame.

Can verify that it's extremely hard to break strings in the 93p. I've only done it with multi, and that was after intensive fraying, with multiple strings seemingly thin enough to be cut by a fingernail.

Hyper G on my 14x18 lasts around 8 hours as well, and Black Code 4S popped after 4 hours. Currently enjoying Ice Code which lasts 8+ hours with great playability until it breaks on the 17g. Right now I'm playing with the 16g Ice Code but I think I like the 17g better. Kind of apples vs oranges on feel between Ice Code and Hyper G but 8 hours would be the mark to cut out poly strings anyway regardless of pattern. I think I could play with either any time.

I used POG mid back in high school when I was blissfully ignorant about racquet specs and string patterns, and poly strings had not entered the scene yet, so I played with Prince Synthetic Gut on that frame and broke them pretty much every 3 days even though I wasn't particularly a hard hitter. Kind of hilarious to think about it now, but luckily my coach's stringer gave me a really good deal on the string jobs. I'd consider my family to have been lower middle class growing up, but I was fortunate enough to have parents that still found a way to support my tennis playing from a young age.

Because the 14x18 93P works better for my game than the 18x20 does. I find it markedly easier to play, between the string pattern, slightly lower static weight and slightly higher RA.

Now, truth be told, I'd probably have been happier with a 16x18 or 16x19 pattern in the 93P. It would have been a good middle ground.

round crisp feel polys:
1 head.hawk.touch (gray)
2 yonex.poly.tour.strike (gray), more so than yptp!! imo/ime

im currently running a side/side/side test on gray poly strings
topspin cyber flash // softest my favorite so far
luxilon alu power // med.soft
yonex poly tour strike //crispest, not uncomfortable like solinco.TB(original)

Head Lynx (Green) is a nice soft round poly and the green looks good in the frame.

People have also mentioned Tier One Ghostwire. That’s soft and round too. I think I prefer Lynx.

My game would definitely come secondary to stringing costs. I get nothing from winning a tennis match other than a few hours of satisfaction. Restringing costs every week would cost me a trip to Hawaii.

How much tennis do you play? 8-9 hours of Ice Code on my 14x18 means I have to restring approximately every 3 weeks, which is about 17 string jobs per year, which a full reel covers more or less for ~$112 (if you know where to look). A trip to Hawaii would cost well over $1k for plane tickets, hotels, food, activities. (Source: I go to Hawaii every year)

I suppose it's a different story if you don't string for yourself and use natural gut or multi and play more than 2-3 hours a week, which is what I suspect you were referring to, but I think full poly users can still get good cost effective mileage out of the 14x18.

I am not prepared to pay the costs of restringing every 4 hours. That's barely 2 weeks of play for me. Getting back to Hyper G will put it back to 8 hours, which is 3-4 weeks. I can live with that.

I play about 10-12 hrs a week and was referring to someone mentioning breaking strings in 4 hours. And I don't have a stringer or room for one. So for me that's 2-3 string jobs per week, at $30 a pop which would be $3900.

In my 18x20's i string about once a month (or 3 racquets every 3 months). So $360 a year.

Yeah, makes sense, sounds like it would be a quick arm death if I played 40 hours a month with polyester strings

I also have experimented many setups on my 93p(18x20), please allow me to share my experiences :)
It is quite(very?) hot on where I'm playing (Thailand), so strings go soft/stretch, dead and notched quick!

Full Bed Poly - I really like full bed poly setup on the 93p, my goto tension is at 46/44 with a 1.20mm string, I have also tried lower tensions, but they are not my cup of tea.
RS Lyon 1.20@46/44 - Great control, excellent durability, nice feel on shots, loved this setup.
RS Lyon 1.20@42/40 - Same as above, however, the string bed feels mushy, not my cup of tea.
Yonex Poly Tour Yellow 1.20@45 - Very nice feel, soft and plush, good at first 3 hours, after that the string feels too soft and too powerful for me.
Yonex Poly Tour Yellow 1.20@46/44 - Same as above with much better durability, goto setup for hitting on an easy day or with GF.
Solinco Tour Bite 1.20@45lbs - Good control and spin, harsh my arm/wrist on off-center hits, feel dead/shot sailing after 4 hours of play.
Solinco Tour Bite 1.20@46/44 - Same as above, DESTROYED my arm/wrist on off-center hits, better durability.
Solinco Tour Bite 1.20@42/40 - Good spin, no issue with my arm/wrist, too powerful for my game.
Solinco Tour Bite Soft 1.20@46/44 - Great spin, good control lasted around 6 hours before the string goes dead, does not like the feel of shaped poly.
Solinco Confidential 2.0 (Unleased String, hexagonal - Used by Sloane Stephens?) 1.20@46/44 - Plays very similar to RS Lyon, feels okay(better than TB soft), very low power, not so good durability.
Tourna Big Red 1.25@46/44 - Very boardy, unable to play with this setup, restring right away (Maybe too high tension for a 1.25 string?)

Hybrids - I only tried several Poly/Multi hybrid setups on my 93p, Natural Gut was a no-go for me, too humid here and they are quite expensive to get one here.
The only multi I put in the cross is Head Velocity Mlt 16g 1.30 (White), and the tension is always @46/50lbs - My thought on 16g on the cross is that it should increase the durability of the mains.
Mains locks up very well, great setup for flat shots, super control, okay spin, very low launch angle. Feels varies on the main poly and main poly always dead/stretched before the muti cross breaks.
Solinco Confidential 2.0 1.20 - Really like this setup, nice feel, better spin than other hybrid I have tried, however the mains dead really fast.
Luxilon ALU Power 1.25 - Good Durability, Great Control, Very Poor Spin.
Solinco Tour Bite 1.20 - Still destroying my arm on off-center hits.

Stringing service is quite cheap here(compared to what I have read from this board) - cost around USD 5 if you bring your own string, so this allows me to restring quite often:)

I have been thinking on my future setup - a stiff 1.25 poly mains and a soft 1.20 cross.
My thought on this is that to increase durability on poly setups; I get around 12 hours playability, despite the stringing cost, strings can be quite expensive here)
Maybe a Prince Diablo Prism + Yonex Poly Tour Yellow? A nice colourful setup:D

I know one that is worse: Gamma TNT2 Touch 17 mains @ 58, and Volkl Vstar 18L crosses @ 56. Snapped on me in less than 2 hours.

Why would I choose that combination for a 93p 14x18? Because that's been my preferred combo on my POG mids which I've been playing with since 1986. But after 33 years, I finally decided it was time to switch rackets and the 93p 14x18 seemed like the right choice. Thankfully I found this forum!

I've been stringing my POGs with a full bed of multi for years, with TNT2 Touch 17 @ 60lbs being my favorite. (I used to string them with syngut in the 70s back in the day - my first POG 90 had a recommended tension up to 75lbs). They would typically lose their pop and have heavy notching before they'd break (12-15 hours), but I loved the feel, so I didn't mind restringing every couple weeks. I've tried a ton of other multis, but never found any than I liked better than the TNT2 Touch in my POGs.

A few months ago, my spool ran out midway through a stringing and I decided to grab a set of my son's Vstar 18L to put in the crosses. I had previously tried Vstar in the mains and my arm instantly hated them, but as crosses, they didn't seem too stiff and I was able to get more spin due to them not notching & locking to the mains. The downside was they'd break much faster, but I was still getting 10-12 hours out of them, which was near their EOL anyway, so I was happy.

Enter the 93p. I figured I'd try the same setup, but down a couple lbs. SNAP! So I went back to a full bed of multi. Super stiff with no feel at all. I tried dropping the tension to 55, then 52. No go. So I tried switching to the only multis I've ever used that were softer than the TNT2 Touch - Prince Premier Touch 17. That was an improvement for my arm, but there was still no ball pocketing or pop. I was starting to think the 93p 14x18 was a mistake.

Then I found this forum and discovered that everyone else was stringing in the 40s (and even 30s). So I restrung with the TNT2 Touch/Vstar 18L hybrid @ 49/47. Sooooo much better. I am now getting pop and spin. The ball pocketing still isn't as good as my POGs, and it doesn't feel like I'm slicing butter with a hot knife, but I've never experienced anything that came even close to the POG on that last point. So I'm going to keep dialing down the tension until I start losing control and then try some different string combos again. My son uses NXT Power for his mains, so I'll probably give that a go, along with NRG2, X-One, and maybe some Ashaway Dynamite (that green should look amazing in a 93p).

Anyway, thanks everyone for restoring my faith in the 93p. I'll post my thoughts on different string combos/tensions as I try them out.
