Prince Phantom X (New 2019/2020) - The next upgrade of Phantom 100/ 100 Pro?

Really, I thought the Blade v7 18x20 has one of the best control in town. Did you have same string & tension?
Yup. Both with Tour Sniper at 56 lbs. I find the Blade unpredictable at times especially when I can feel the flex. There’s a late power surge from the flex that causes the ball to launch like a rocket. The flex is inconsistently felt as well. Hence I also struggle with the Clash and its lousy control. It may be more suitable for a modern game but I’m a big hitter with an eastern forehand. I prefer the authentic and more predictable feel of the 100X. It’s a flexible racquet without the gimmick. Blade 2015 absolutely bludgeoned the ball with consistency and I just don’t find that same precision in the v.7.

The 100x 305 is really a unique racquet due to the low flex rating along with the thicker portion of the frame being in the hoop. There's room for customization for more pop and plow. I did notice that it is a bit tension sensitive. As I stated previously, it is super user friendly compared to other various 98 sq inch player frames. The feel, spin, control along with some pop and superior comfort make the 100x 305 one of the top racquets for 2020. While I do also like the Blade v7 98 line very much, I need a less demanding racquet for match play! Prince has really their mark this year!!

Does anyone use the Phantom 100x in 4.5+ leagues and higher? It seems a bit soft / low powered to use in stock form?

Do you still have this racket? I remember you didn't like the way it played after adding weights.

I just bought another one and regretfully sold the first one I bought too soon. The 100x 305 plays fine with a little weight added but nothing too extreme. After playing with my current racquet the Blade v7 98 16 x 19 for a while longer, I realized that I need a more forgiving racquet and the 100x 305 is the one.

I am a 4.0-4.5 player who has played with the 100X 305 and in stock form it is a little light. Adding a couple of grams at 12 really brings this frame alive with a nice balance of power and control. It is also very user-friendly compared to playing with your typical 98 sq inch players frame like the Blade v7 98 line.

I used the 100x 290 and weighted it up to static weight of the 305 because the 305 was sold out at the time - and it played excellent, it's only underpowered if you can't generate the power but if you can, it's just a beautiful racquet all around

Nothing to do with can't generating the power, it's about mass in the right places. At 4.5+, lower 5.0, you need to be able to block big serves etc as you don't have time to take a swing on them. A soft, flimsy racquet would just be a liability.

I'm a computer rated 4.5 and use the 100X. I have zero issues with generating enough power. I also don't really notice any instability against bigger hitters when I'm at the baseline. The rare instance that I feel instability is on quick volleys and I hit the outer stringbed.

But you literally just asked about it being soft and low powered and didn't mention anything about stability lol

But actually no issues with stability, i use a Gravity Pro, and pulled out the 100X during a match against a big hitter when i was too slow with the Gravity, it held up just fine

What it doesn't have is the control you need to hit lines effectively

Haven't used the Textreme Tour line unfortunately, i've tried most of the phantoms, more so the 93, 97 and pro 100

Hi diddyac, how does the 100x305 compare to the pro 100?

I just got a 100X 305 to do an extended demo.
It came woefully under spec. 315 strung with OG and damp. [emoji20]
Didn't take a pic with unstrung specs but it was 292. They might have mislabeled a 290 for 305 [emoji848].

Not sure if I want to take it out for a hit....

Wow, that's including dampener AND overgrip as well.

The 290g or 305g weight is printed on the inside of the frame - are you sure it's definitely the 305g?

No I am not sure it's a 305 but it says so on the frame... [emoji20]

Wow, that's a right lemon! Definitely return it. I'm amazed that TW send out racquets like that. You'd think they'd send out one that's as close to manufacturer's spec as possible.

I decided to get a demo before pulling the trigger on another 100x 305. The demo came in at 322 grams and I added 2 grams at 12. It still fell a tad light compared to the Blade v7 98 16 x 19 that I have been playing with. I hit around and played some points with serving with my usual partner for the last number of weeks. Serving was quite easy and the results were good along with return of serve. The issue I had was the control which was not all that good along with some instability with balls hit outside the sweet spot. To make a long story short, I had 2 long sessions with the demo and also played around with the lead tape positioning. When I used the 100x 305 for the first few months in the winter. The racquet flexes a bit too much for my taste and there's not enough stability for me to be comfortable with. I am not buying another 100x 305 and will stay with what I currently have.

I did two separate demos that included 305s, and then bought one. The demos were 316 and 317, and mine strung with Gamma syn gut w/wearguard is 318, with a 295 swingweight.

I also got a 100P. During the demos, I wanted to prefer the 100X 305 (because I prefer its looks, call me shallow), but the 100P demo was incredible for its accuracy and thefeeling of mass driving through the swing while not putting much effort into it. I find that with both, when scrambling outside the right or left alley, on either wing, the shot always gets back inbounds; I never sail wide with either. I'm always yelling, "It's not me; it's the racquet!" Because the other guy is just shaking his head. But the 100P seemed to win by a nose.

But when I purchased the two they accidentally sent the wrong grip size on the 100P (not really their fault - the label had my correct size on it, but the buttcap and actual grip did not agree) so while waiting for it to be corrected I had only the 100X 305 for a week. I found that while it required greater racquet head speed, it was giving me fast, accurate shots as well. Serving with each is great, but they are different. the 305 slices and kicks like a dream, and the 100P powers through the box better.

I would love to prefer one over the other. But I can't seem to! I am keeping them both pristine, in case I sell one, though.

(FYI, the 100P, same string, weighs 322g, SW of 312. The heaviest 100P demo was 326.)

The 100P sounds like it has more upside than the 100x 305 due to the higher SW. I am not a big fan of adding large amounts of lead on a racquet as it becomes an endless process. Right now I am not going to demo any other racquets.

That is probably where I will end up as well. The 100P does so much work for me! And although I added lead to my 2001 Triple Threat Hornet to have it match its earlier predecessor, which was also a half inch longer, I feel the same. Brighter minds than mine spent a lot of effort designing each racquet, and added weight doesn't only adjust SW; It changes the flex as well, since flex is not merely the single number used to describe it. Flex varies in different points of the beam, and lead changes the characteristics in other ways. If you happen to get a racquet feeling great with lead, wonderful, but it can be a rabbit hole to get lost in.

Have you experimented around with weight? Seems like some prefer 10 and 2, while others at 12? Pros/cons of each position? And what amounts are we talking about? Thanks.

I have 3 inch strips at 10 and 2 and counterbalanced in the handle 7 inches above buttcap and it's the perfect setup for me. makes the racquet more stable and more plowthrough. Tour Sniper plays fantastic in this racquet. It's a prestretched low-powered poly that plays consistent from the first to the last hit. I've experiment with lots of different racquets and setups over the years but I think I've found my perfect frame and setup.

Sorry bring up this old thread, but can anyone compare the 100x to the clash 98 and 100 tour? I haven't been able to play with the 100x but specs look good but getting a demo/finding one is impossible.

After waiting for this racket(100x 305) for over a month while it was reported missing, pay-pal shenanigans and whatnot it finally arrived and I started playing with it at about the start of august.
Haven't played with it enough to form a definite opinion but so far it is amazing all-around for me!!
The only problem so far, as many can attest, is the absence of easy power which I don't really mind so much on its own as much as the being pushed back by heavy hitters.
As I generally play with way heavier rackets than this(generally at about 355-360 grams) it also feels kind of weird to play with such a light one :-D:laughing::-D.

I added some extra weight tonight at 10 and 2 (about 6 grams total) and I'm about to head out to play a match so I'll report back when I come back how it behaved.
ps. With leather grip, over-grip and the tungsten tape it comes around at 330 grams... So bizarre playing with such a light racket!

I just experimented with leather grip yesterday and I love it. Makes the racquet more stable against hard hitters. My current setup is similar to yours.

The weight at 10 and 2 definitely helped. It wasn't like I was hitting with my DR98+ but I felt like it was a marked improvement.
Even my opponent commented to me afterwards that my hits seemed better today than the other day when I was playing without the extra weight.
Coincidence?! ...Maybe, maybe not we'll see.
ps. Also my serve seemed far snappier today. All in all very impressed with this racket so far.

Same experience here the lead at 10/2 definitely makes the racket way better all around. I will be doing the same customizations to my new 100X, 290s though. 3 gms at 10/2 and leather. Can't wait for TW to ship the rackets already.

Out of curiosity what strings do you use with the racket? I'm currently using Solinco Confidential at 54 lbs.

I am a gut/poly hybrid guy so my current 100X 305 is strung with Lux Natural and cyberflash. 55/50. This is my normal set up.
For demos I usually go with NRG/cyberflash.

These rackets so far seem to be eating up strings. I am getting less durability in these frames then others. I do have plans to test low tension full bed poly or poly/ZX hybrid if my shoulder can handle it.

Does anyone use the Phantom 100x in 4.5+ leagues and higher? It seems a bit soft / low powered to use in stock form?
I do as well. Excellent frame (both 305 & 320), good blend of everything and certainly has enough control for advanced players, even tour pros imo. Prince no more spends big money on pros these days for whatever reason, but their frames are as good as ever.

I definitely had to lead mine up because I got one that was underspec brand new from TW. its 11.4oz strung right now with 2G of lead at 10, 2G at 2, 2G at 12.

Plays well with enough plow through, good feel, and very maneuverable. I play USTA 4.5

When you say 320 do you mean the 18x20?

Replying to the these old posts:
Is anyone else finding the naming convention of Prince in the Phantom line super confusing?

Phantom 100 - O Ports, 54 Flex
Phantom Pro 100 - Regular Grommets, 56 Flex
Phantom Pro 100P - Regular Grommets, Box Frame, 59 Flex
Phantom 100P - Regular Grommets, Box/Angular Frame +1mm vs. Pro 100P, 59 Flex, Twaron
Phantom 100X - Update to the Phantom Pro 100 with lower SW, Beam +1.5mm vs Pro 100, 58 Flex, Twaron
Phantom 100X O3 - O Ports version of the 100X, 60 Flex, Twaron
Wow good summary. I kinda did at first too but then you figure out the convention and release history of the line.
The 2nd generation dark purple Phantom 100p didn't increase the beam width or change the angles of the overall box beam, that was just the 100Xs
They have simplified it in the 2nd gen phantoms. X variants have rounder beams while the P frames have box beams.
The first gen: Pro meant traditional grommets and P again with the box beams.
If people still wanna confuse it, just include the Japanese Phantoms, or what they have of them. I think Japan is calling the 2nd gen update to the 20-22-20mm Pro 100 XR just the Phantom 100, not confusing at all....
How is the ResiTex Tour grip? They say this has a "nice firm feel" - how is it? Can you compare it to the ResiPro or DuraPro? I find I don't feel the bevels enough with a ResiPro and overgrip, and the DuraPro is ok. I prefer leather and overgrip - but don't want to get too heavy of a static weight.

I would like to end up around 325-330 strung weight with overgrip - which the 305 is. If the ResiTex isn't more firm than the ResiPro then I would probably be better off going with the 290 and a leather.
The Resitex Tour grip is firmer than the Resipro. Dunno about the Durapro. You can feel the bevels more. Slightly less comfortable but still good. Kinda like a lightly textured smooth rubber with moderate tack. I prefer the ResiPro more but either is fine for me. I do like the idea and think I prefer the extra weight of it though.

Not sure if it'll matter anymore lol, but you can still get the 100X 305, the Resitex Tour grip weighs more than a standard synthetic replacement grip, basically like a true leather grip. You won't add much weight at all if you took it off and put leather. Part of the weird appeal if you wanna customise or take away weight.
