That PP100 is a dream!!!! Played 2 hours and my arm from wrist to shoulder feel SO good!!!! Incredible pleasure to play with this magical frame!!!!!!!! Control is awesome!!!!!! Strong spin/slice are so easy to generate!!!! Kick serve are KICKING!!!
And I played with multi 15L gauge (HDX and Multifeel) .... I can't imagine what I will do with thinner gauge of poly!!!!!
WOW as you can see I'm so happy..... Best buy I did for long!!!!! :p
Now I will try Double AR Diablo 17 and Signum Pro X-perience 17 at 46/42lbs (21/19kg). I'm pretty sure that a good poly in this fantastic frame will not hurt my arm like the Pure Aero did.....
What gauge and tension would you all suggest for that (again) MARVELOUS Phantom Pro 100!!!!!!!! :D

Lil Devil in your ear assuring u that poly is a friend again?

My Phantom explained it to me. And guys like @Dartagnan64 or @ByeByePoly ;)
My problem was not the strings but the frame!!....
Now with not too stiff poly at low tension in my PP100, my arm will not feel the same pain it did with PA!!!!! Babolat rackets are arm KILLERS!!!!!!!!

Uh ... no ... it was the devil strings. Plastic is plastic ... good for packaging ... bad for your shoulder, elbow, wrist and oceans.

Haha... Maybe it was not you but @Traffic who let me think about changing frame. And for sure it is a game changer!!!
I will try pretty soon plastic in my PP100 and will let you know how my arm feel it. But I'm pretty confident. Your story with poly is the most difficult on this forum..... ;)

Yep ... I changed frames also ... but stuck with elbow allergic to plastic.

My friend really likes his PP100 too. He's definitely hitting a nicer ball than he did with his old Head Radical.

I'm using gut/poly in my Phantom 100 and 93P and not noticing any arm issues. 17g Cream at 48 lbs in the 100 and 44 lbs in the 93p. So I think you are thinking right with 46/42 for a full poly setup.

just remember, poly is still poly and keeping it in forever will be a bad idea in the long run no matter the racket softness.

Buy a Phantom 100 or Pro 100

I will never keep poly forever... I cut it at MAX 10 hours of play. I will just try some poly in thin gauge and see what happen... If my arm can't handle it again, I will go for HDX 17 or 16 because it feel so good in the PP100!!
Gut/poly could be really nice for sure but not when playing on clay only... I broke VS in 3 hours the last time...
Do you think Velocity 16 or 17 could play similar to HDX?

VS in a Pure Aero won't last. Don't pass expectations from prior frames onto the Phantom. Phantoms are not string breaking frames. The flex provides better cushioning for both your arm and the string bed leading to longer durability than the stiffer frames.

I used to break VS very easily in my PD and had to use Tonic just to get durability. I'm noticing considerable better wear on gut/poly in my 100 and 93P despite playing purely on clay.

Don't abandon the idea totally, is all I'm saying.

Thanks for the info! Will try Tonic ball feel/Max Power Rough 18. :p

I'll be trying Legend/Max Power 18 in my Phantom 100 next. If my Legend/Cream ever breaks ;)
Before trying that gut hybrid, I will try:
Cyclone 18L
Signum Pro X-perience 17L
Double AR Diablo 17 (because I have a reel...)
Not only for the color but I'm really confident with the new X-perience. It is like designed to be played with Phantom 100 or Pro 100. Because it provide controllable power, crazy spin and good comfort. If you want to try again a poly in your Phantom, you should maybe try this one...

Curious, what voodoo is Prince using to achieve such stellar results?

Textreme.

And a willingness to veer from the trend of modern light stiff frames to frames that provide stability, touch and comfort. I think too many of the rec public have been fed a lie that anything not light and stiff can't perform. My results have not changed with a switch from a PD to Prince Phantoms and if anything I'm playing better overall tennis because I can control the ball much better without relying on topspin alone to keep the ball in play.

Always have trouble finding these less common strings. But I think the ultimate string bed for phantoms is either really low tension poly hybrid of a shaped poly combined with a smooth poly or a hybrid with gut/smooth poly. The nice thing is that they also can still perform well with full multis whereas most modern tweeners can't.

Played again with my PP100 and it's so damn GOOD!!!
Now I can't wait to try poly. HDX is really great but I want MORE spin!!! :p

Hi all,

Has anyone tried the Phantom 100 and/or Phantom Pro 100 with either a full bed of natural gut or a natural gut hybrid?

I couldn't find anything in the thread to answer that but did wonder how that type of string set-up would work, given that people are commenting on a lack of power.

You can lower the tension to any setup and will be fine, try a couple of pounds lower than you normally string, avoid stiff polys

I find the regular Phantom the best one of the three 100” Phantoms. The others are nice, but the ported grommet version out plays the other two, imo.

Nick,
Thanks for the reply but I was specifically asking if anyone has had experience using a gut or gut hybrid set-up in either of the two frames. Dropping tension can be very helpful, but that's another discussion.

So how many regular Phantom users do we have out there?
I'm an O Ported Phantom player. I mess with other sticks looking to get something similar but with more power. But I keep coming back to my Phantom, power on server is the only con for me even then I'm more consistent with more movement on the ball so its not much of a con.

Any of the port phantom players ever play with the original O3 tour mp? I have had one since it came out and was wondering if they are similar. They look to be aside from the stiffness.

I play my phantom with gut mains and smooth poly crosses. It's extremely soft and plays well all-around. I've never felt like the racquet lacked power, however, so I can't comment on that.

They are not same. Phantom has more stable and stiffer feel than O3.

A thin frame racquet has lower power.
I strung LXN NG with My P100 and will play tonight.
I will let you know how power changes compared to my previous string setup (multis & hybrid).

I have the regular 100 and the Pro 93P. Must say I mostly use the 93P but I use the 100 fairly frequently. If I'm having a "bad arm" day its the first racket out of my bag.

I prefer the feel and balance on the 93P so I play mostly with it. But the 100 is still a nice racket and so comfortable. Not sure my results differ much between the two.

Congrats!!! Massive enjoyment is coming for you!!!(y)

I put on a leather grip and overgrip, vibration dampener, 2x2g lead strips either side of the strings at the tip, and 8g lead putty in the butt cap.. That works out at 11 points head light and a total strung weight of 353g.I have Laserfibre Supreme 2 in the mains and Tourna big hitter Silver in the crosses. 53/49

Serves feel fine and overall comfort is very impressive. I also have a Yonex DR 98 and I could feel this string combo (which I like) on my arm. Had to go with Head Velocity in the crosses. No problem with the Phantom.

Guys, do you consider phantom a string eater due to its 03 ports?

No. They’ve rounded the O ports so they are smoother and the flex of the racket absorbs some of the ball energy. So they are about average for string life. About the same as my Blade and better than my PD or APD.

I agree with you. I read many posts in the forum blaming the ports for premature string breakage, but did not see it happen in my phantom. I would say normal durability like every other racket..
