Prince Response 90

I posted this in the racket section too. Does anyone know of grommets that will fit an old Prince Response 90? It has a 14 x 18 pattern and the throat has a reverse arc on the bottom side (so the 3rd grommet has to be longer than the middle ones). Thanks.

I just ordered a couple of Orig. Graphite Mid grommet sets from TW. Whoever I spoke to didn't think it would fit, but it's the best fit I have for making a custom set.

It's not mine. A person brought it to me to restring. If mine, I could easily create something that would work. I wouldn't mind what it looked like. Being someone elses, I want it to look good too.

My friend has the 110 version of this racquet, and has the same issue.

The frame was actually in perfect condition, I would never throw that out, but the grommets looked horrible.

I figured Id have to go the teflon tubing route to string it just so the string doesnt dig into the frame.

I had a racquet come my way one time, that needed most grommets tubed, it was horrible to say the least! Once you tube about 25 or so tubes in one racquet to fit in approx. 50 grommet holes you will not do that again, and on a 1 piece job, the time it took was incredible! I don't think anyone could pay me enough to do that again.
There has to be a time when you just say to a client that the racquet outlived its usefullness .

Actually, some great guys came through and are sending me the grommet sets. Thanks to the USRSA for passing along my need for them.

That's cool.

I dont care what anyone says, I wouldnt throw one of these out if it's just the grommets, Id find some way to get it done.

Especially since the frame is likely to last longer then any of today's frames.

You're talking to the guy that did the ultimate spaghetti stringing job, google around for it ;)

Rowley's Pro Shop sold me some grommets. He's a great guy. If no one had any, I was going to make some out of Prince Graphite Mid grommets, which I had ordered from TW. It's a pain, but not impossible. The bumperguard is the hardest part. You find as many holes as possible that fit. Sometimes, that's only 1 on each side. You cut the rest off. Mark where the holes should be, use a small hole punch, then use individual grommets from Fittex (or make your own using the existing grommet strip), and fill in the holes. Sometimes, you have to use some glue or get a woodburner and lightly melt the grommets into place. Timeconsuming--yes, impossible--no.

Steve Huff,
Have you replaced the grommets?

I acquired one from a Play It Again Sport store. The racquet, as well as the grommets, in very good condition, however. It plays very similar to my Spectrum Comp 90.

Becareful stringing around the bridge with the Response. I saw one crack recently while pulling the mains. Is it the one with the recessed bridges?
