Prince Textreme Tour 100P (310g, 18x20)

I've been going between the PCG 100 and the Tour 18x20... Needless to say I'm more than curious about this.

I would definitely like to try this one out. I liked the 100T but it was light and whippy and only really worked well for me when it was leaded up with 3 grams at 3/9. It was a great racquet, though.

How much does it weigh? I don't know why they'd go with the dense string pattern. That's an automatic disqualifier to me when looking for a racquet. Spin is too important.

So this is the successor of the Tour 100 Pro or the 18x20 version of the TT 100T ?

Do we have info of the new tour 100 16x18 ? At least how it will be told ?

It's a bit odd that they'd be advertising this but it's not actually available or mentioned on Prince's site?

It is not odd, nowadays the biggest players like sellers, newspapers, etc. lunch the newest info before producers. Check the Babolat.com, there is no info about the new Pure Aero :) It's all business !

True. Princetennis.com gets the updates several weeks after the press and forums get (and air/publish) the official news/launch (from Prince).

If you are an authorized dealer, you get to see the names of the new sticks to be released. But they are not spec nuts, they just see new frames, new marketing, money from the customers :) I got a sneak peek at them, but thought it might tick off our gracious host, so I kept it to myself (trust me, it was difficult!!!) I love TT and wouldn't want to jeopardize my access to the knowledge (and drama:eek:) that can be found here

I have one and will have the opportunity to test it this week. I'm not sure if I can post my impressions or details about it, won't include pictures in any case.

The specs are (unstrung) 10.8 ounces and 9 points headlight. 18x20 string pattern in a 100 sq. inch head, with the cool Textreme 95 paintjob. Obviously Prince is taking on the popular Blade 98 18x20 and it will be interesting to see what everyone thinks. The Textreme feel seems to be quite popular so Prince is running with it.

Do you know how stiff it is?
Thanks

Even if that's an unstrung balance, it still sounds pretty head light compared to the Blade.

So it leaves me wondering if this is a purposeful trend, ie lighter stock forms. That the companies are releasing rackets knowing that there is increasing customization out there. I don't want to speak well of the Graphene line, but it sounded like they expressly also had a lighter weight for their mids for people to tweak. Just wondering if Prince has that in mind with the Textremes.

Quite sexy but... I would have loved it with a 16x18 or 16x19 pattern
With that stick and the recently issued Tour 100 ESP, Prince might consider that offering a 18x20 and a 16x16 is enough, at least for now
Big mistake!
Like other folks, I feel a bit disapointed and am still hoping that a 16x18 or 16x19 will come in the next few months (without ports)

The Graphite 100XR shown on the japanese website is a new iteration of the classic Graphite 100, which is probably a more old-school and demanding stick compared to the Tour 100

The same japanese site shows a 310g, 16x18 version of the Tour Textreme 100T (being it has the same orange colour), called Tour Pro 100XR. Let's hope this comes to the US/EU :)

23 for a width is entering Radical territory. Not necessarily thick thick per se, but definitely not current Prince Tour thinness.

I don't think 18x20 is a bad idea on that frame. the pattern looks pretty well spread out. Should be a good frame that packs a little more punch for those of us lesser mortals who flail at the ball in vain with the Textreme 95.

When I read such things I feel old. 23mm... Radical territory. OMG, and to think that a couple years ago this would be blasphemy. Anything at 23mm would be basically called a tweener.

Now where are my spectacles dagnabbit!

Funny thing, I have no, or at least little trouble with a 22 mm beam (when it comes to visual appreciation), even if it not a constant taper, as long as it is max 22 at the throat. 1 mm and the whole frame looks fat, to me; which is why I never liked the looks of the Response 97 even if it's just 1 mm thicker than the PS97/RF97A.

I'm with you on that.

I'm intrigued by the 110p, especially after seeing the specs. It's relatively flexible and I'm glad it has a 18x20 pattern. I recently switched from the Prince Tour 100 16x18 to the Tour 18x20 ,and apart from losing a bit on the serve, I like the 18x20 more in every respect. The 18x20's response seems much more predictable and its best quality seems to be in the lower launch angle. For what it's worth, before switching I had only played with open patterns.

Interesting
Does your game rely on topspin or not?
How would you compare the two string patterns in term of topsin?

I'm a 4.5 player. I hit a heavy topspin forehand and a relatively flat 2hbh. So yes, my game relies on topspin, and I'd say that the frames are pretty darn close in terms of topspin. That said, the 16x18 does seem to produce a little more spin, but given that the 18x20 gives me more confidence to hit out, I seem to hit with an even amount topspin with both frames on my forehand. And the 18x20 seems to really benefit my backhand and volleys. On the serve, the 18x20 is a little lower powered (just a bit) but seems to offer better directional control. I'm a fan of the Tour in both string patterns, but definitely prefer the 18x20.

And IMHO, I'm starting to think that the vast majority of players might benefit from denser string patterns, as players really don't seem to master control until the reach the 5.0 level or better. After all, we can all rip impressive winners at times, but it's only the truly great players who can do so consistently.

What are you hitting with currently, the Tour 18x20?
Yep, I'm hitting with the Tour 18x20. And I don't plan on moving back to a 16x18 anytime soon.
In general, I really like the ports, as they do seem to open up the sweetspot. That said, the ports do indeed give a rather muted feel, and I feel like the 18x20 feels more connected than the 16x18 (without reducing the size of the sweetspot).

Yeah, I hear that. I usually prefer a tighter string bed, but I've played with a few 16x18s, mainly because I like the racket feel. But I notice I put thicker strings in those to tighten the pattern all the same. And definitely agree about the sweet spot. Once I've gotten used to the ports, it feels very good.

I'm from EU too!:)
I'm also impatient to hear how this baby plays!:D:D:D (green smileys goes well with textreme racquets!)
When are you going to play with it?
