Prince Textreme Warrior 100

Pleb123

Semi-Pro
Initial thoughts on this racquet after a couple of sets (strung with Alu Soft at 52lbs):

  • (T)extremely (apologies for bad pun) solid and stable, more than its weight and headlight balance would suggest.
  • Medium power level. Less powerful than Pure Aero. More powerful than PCG 100.
  • Room for customisation. Added 8 grams of lead at 11-1, 4 grams total at 3 and 9. Specs are now 11.8oz/ 335 grams and 5 points head light. Handles a heavy ball without wearing you down.
  • Feel is not dissimilar to PCG 100 but more power, more stable and stiffer. Launch angle from strings is lower than PCG 100.
  • Arm friendly.
  • Large sweetspot.
  • 16x18 string pattern not noticeably different in terms of spin than a 16x19.
Anyone else care to share their thoughts on this or any other variety of the Textreme Warrior 100 racquets?

I just played a set with Textreme Warrior!! You described it very well! I like it so far, but I was paying attention to the match and haven't spent enough time with it yet. Spin came easy, I agree, it was stable and powerful. I strung it with Kirschbaum Max Power @ 50/50, and it played perfectly. Comfortable, and I plan on starting to customize it tonight or tomorrow. I want it to end up at 330 grams strung, around 5 or 6 points headlight. I played the first set with the Warrior and the second set with my customized Textreme Tour 100T, with no adjustment needed. Great frames, but I need more time with the Warrior (especially on a day where it isn't snowing outside!! It was crazy playing outside!) I like it a lot more than the previous iterations, definite improvement!

Thanks JohnBPittsburgh, looking forward to reading your feedback once you've had a chance to hit with it more.

This bullet is intriguing. More stable than the PCG?? Really? Does it have a very stiff feel? I have the previous Warrior 100 (w/ ports) and it doesn't have that stiff, boards feel. I'm hoping this iteration doesn't either. How's the touch/feel?

Didn't feel stiff at all to me, I actually thought of that after I was playing yesterday. I was driving home and remembered it had a stiffer flex rating than my TT100T, but it was just as comfortable. I am hoping to hit with it today, I want to put it through some more testing!!

TW Europe has the specs published on its website - stiffness is 66.

[Edit] Tennis Only in Australia lists stiffness as 64.

12g in the hoop? That's some serious SW :)
SW 340+ ?
Don't know the swingweight but with most of the lead at 12 it is polarised so with a relaxed swing it comes around nicely, and past a certain point, gives the sensation of the racquet doing the work for you.

I have played with it and was slightly disappointed, especially in comparison to White LS (unfortunately I've never palyed with previous Warrior, but White LS have the same specs so I assume White and ex Warrior are very similar).

I really liked the more head light balance of TT Warrior and feel is also ok, but I was disapointed with stability and control and IMO White LS has better stability as better control. I am eagerly waiting what JohnBPittsburgh will report us after his customization, because I am sure this racquet will be better with adding some weight ...

Lol, I just added some weight!!! I am going out to the courts right now. I started beefing it up, with weight in the handle, and will see how it plays. Then my next step, is going ot be adding some weight under the bumper (if necessary for my game). Living room test, I was smashing winners over the ottoman, and some cross-coffee table winners came easy!! :) The player I am playing today, loves to make me run, and it will be a tough match. I am bringing my O3 White to the court, strung with VS/Black Shark as well. I hope to return, with tales of a championship!! :) Prince has equipped me with the weapons, it's up to me to use them, skillfully!

You should see some of the amazing backhands I've hit over the dining room table and subtle drop shots just clearing the banister.

I had long day, and I am definitely not issuing my final thoughts on this racquet yet. I can see why TW does long playtests. Today, I was having trouble finding the lines, and keeping it in. I may have jumped the gun with adding weight, and maybe I should have played it stock longer. I also don't want to blame my inconsistencies on a racquet, instead of accepting responsibility for what part I played in my performance today. I started out great, and was up 3-0, I felt like the Warrior was playing perfectly, and i couldn't miss. Then, I felt comfortable enough to try out the O3 White (I was hitting beautifully at this point). I lost the next 2 games, and thought, better switch back to the Warrior (Why would i switch frames yet again!!) I lost another game, and started hitting long and frustration started kicking in. 3-3, I gathered myself mentally, and decided, win or lose, Talk Tennis review or no review, stick with the Warrior!! Close game, but I lost hitting long...again. Now, I started thinking, "why did I add that weight?" and "I don't have any real feedback yet to even report on the frame". Lost another match, 3-4, dam you Warrior, don't let me down!!! Play like crazy, and this dude was just making some great shots, and I went down in flames, first set 3-6 :( Between sets, I was trying to think of anything useful, to contribute to this board, which has given me so much...nothing. New set, start with Warrior, win a game, but then quickly lose the second. At this point, I decided, "Sorry TT, I am winning this match with my trusty TT100T" Proceeded to stomp guy into the pavement, with TT100T!! 1-1, 3rd set, I got up 3-0, and decided...ONE MORE RACQUET CHANGE!!! I switched out my custom TT100t for my Prince Tour 16x18, (another great frame) and won the 3rd set 6-1. What did I learn today?
If you are at my level, too many racquets can be a bad thing!
I should have stuck with the Textreme Warrior the entire match, win or lose!
Don't make an announcement that you will do a review, before you go play a match (if you are me at least)
The mental game of tennis will eat you alive, if you cannot clear your head, and stay focused!
It's not the wand, it's the magician (or whatever silly comparison you like to use) I lost more games than I should have because I was switching racquets like a crackhead with ADD, I was thinking of things other than the game at hand.
I may have failed you today Talk Tennis, but at least I learned something about me and my game. So although I don't have any useful feedback on the Warrior, I feel like I came away with a better understanding of my game, and downfalls of racquetaholism. It did feel very solid and I didn't feel like I got pushed around, all mistakes were made by me, and tomorrow, is a new day, and there is no need to put undue pressure on myself to review a frame!! I don't want to even say, I will have better feedback tomorrow, but if I do, then that is fantastic!! Today, I saw what it is like if you don't have the mind of a Warrior...you get cut down in the throes of battle. The tennis court is a battleground, and to be great, requires mental and physical toughness, along with hard won experience. I was playing outdoors, in 40 degree weather, for 4 hours, because I love this game, and everything about it. (next time, I should probably call and get an indoor court...you can still love this game indoors! :D) Thank you for letting me ramble on, tomorrow is a new day!

It will be interesting to hear your thoughts after using the racquet consistently. Did you lead it up to 330g? Where did you put the lead?

Played a 4 hour singles match yesterday (longest of my life) with the Warrior. 3 tie breaks in 35 degrees C (that's 95 F). Found the racquet helped a lot with consistency. I have been having similar problems to those you report with the Warrior while using the Pure Aero lately - controlling the depth. The switch to the more low powered Warrior has resulted in the ball dropping in more. My slice is still is not dialed in and is tending to float - not long but up. I am most happy to report that my arm feels great after that hard slogging marathon. And the sound made at contact gives visceral satisfaction with a real deep pop. I think lower string tensions suit this racquet.

Next experiment is to remove the lead at 3 and 9, leaving 8 grams at 11-1, and see how that plays, looking to gain a bit more maneuverability at the net.

John ... you have FAILED us as a racquetholic! :D but yeah seriously man, if youve got that 100T weighted like you want, might just roll with it.

i have reaffirmed after about 6 hrs of hitting this weekend and a couple matches last week that I need a racquet with some weight and at least 100 sq in for my groundstrokes. theres no more important part of my game than hitting consistent topspin balls off both wings that go deep. the 2HBH, especially, is considerably more consistent with more mass and headsize.

ive also reaffirmed that i gotta use something that preserves my arm/elbow. so ... i know ive said it before, but ... i think im getting there ...

JohnBPittsburgh... I admire a man who takes accountability and admit his failure. This will only make you a stronger person in the long run. I've recently gotten over my racquet-holic addiction since my discovery of the 100P and TT95. It was a long 3 years of switching and demoing racquets every other week. You name it and I probably tried it... don't me a smart ass and mention any jr. racquets or extremely oversized racquets. Ha! I came to such conclusion by analyzing my game to which racquet(s) I was getting the best results, b/c results don't lie.

I just noticed something, and I am going to take some pics and further scrutinize my findings (I'm not curing cancer or anything, calm down) I am 99% sure that the grommets of the previous Warrior Pro, will fit the Textreme Warrior!!! What does that mean? The drill pattern is the exact same!!! Minus some Textreme, and weight distribution, I believe the two are quite similar! It's good news for me, because I have both of them, and I have several grommet sets for the Textreme Warrior coming, so I can try and put them on my Warrior Pro, when I get them (a couple weeks). The feel is different for sure, but if I spend the time matching them (after I play today), I think I will have 2 interchangeable frames :) (feel free to correct me if I am wrong, I just got excited after setting them next to each other, and reading the way my grommet order was written for the Textreme Warrior)

I know the feeling! I have an addictive personality, racquetaholism comes natural to me :) Thank you for the kind words! I am off to hit the courts!!!

In a friendly match, I do sometimes change frames (either the same w/diff strings, or a different frame altogether). As far as I'm concerned, I would rarely try out three diff frames in the same match though, except if I had a brand new one I was eager to test, which seems to be the case here :-)

What I always focus on when changing frames, and esp. if it is a match of importance (ranking points): why am I changing, what am I hoping for by changing and what are the pros/cons of the new frame, esp. compared to the old? I.e. if my shots are sailing long and I lack control - and I think a make a racket change might help, I could a) go for a smaller headsize, b) tighter pattern, c) stiffer string, d) higher tension, e) higher SW, aso +++ depending on which choices are available to me in my bag. In this case I want more control and I want the balls to stay inside the lines, w/o changing my playing style. In such a case, the same headsize and pattern but with a stiffer string at higher tension will work better than say, a smaller headsize frame with a tighter pattern (but the same string setup).

Hey John.....been there done that. Some friendly advice....when playtesting racquets, don't focus so much on the results, but try and realize if you are losing points because of the racquet or other reasons, like your opponent being superior or to yourself not moving well that day, etc. Also, when you switch so frequently during a match like that, you get mentally screwed up and then you are really in trouble. Unless you are really "off" with a certain frame, try and stick with it through the entire match so you can properly evaluate your play AFTER the match is over.

Secondly...I think it's a good idea to play with a frame stock for a while before adjusting and adding lots of weight to it. That way you can see how the frame really performs and then adjust accordingly to what it needs to make it better. Sounds like you maybe made your Warrior too powerful and hard to control by adding the weight?

All great feedback!! I was also thinking it is a poor evaluation of a frame, when weighted up, because people interested in buying it, are not necessarily going to modify their frame in the same manner, if at all. Sooooo, I am going to open another Textreme Warrior!! :) I played extremely good today, and won 2 doubles games (the first ended with a game score of 10-8, because we didn't want to play a tie breaker!) Then I played a set of singles ending in 6-4 So, today, the Warrior was a welcome addition to my Textreme army!!! I weighed the 3 Textreme Warriors and the first one was one gram over spec, the other two are exact same weight, and if all the packaging plastic and dampener weigh the same, they should be 1 gram under spec. I am going to copy the TW playtest format, and after a couple more outings with my stock frame, put it up. But, I am a lot happier with my modified one, and today, I hit several aces. I had a couple really good shots, but the one that surprised me the most, was probably my best Serve Return ever! I wish I could claim that it was all me, but there was a little luck involved :) This guy drilled a serve to my backhand, and I just kind of reacted. I hit a backhand that Stan Wawrinka would have been proud of!!! It barely went over the net, with a lot of pace, bounced in the service box and flew past his backhand side. My Warrior weighs close to a PAT right now (334 grams strung) and is several points headlight) I would definitely suggest if you are interested in this frame to demo it. I still hit a few long, but I was able to hit some wicked dropshots. A few sat up, but I attribute that to my technique, and hope after I dial in the frame, that will happen less often. So far, so good, and I do like the Kirschbaum Max Power in this frame, but the true test for me, will be with a full bed of Black Shark. Thank you for the great feedback, I was extremely excited to get these frames early, and I have been on a kick lately, of weighting everything up to around 330 grams, and headlight! I think that definitely had a lot to do with my early modification of the frame. (I could actually just pull the blutack out, instead of opening another one...decisions, decisions. The plight of a racquetaholic!!!)

big question: would you say then the head shape of the new textreme warrior 100 is different that the Textreme Tour 100T and 100P? wider or higher? curious. I have two 100P's and one modified 100T, love them both and will be adding more textremes to my quiver!

I will take a pic, and look in a sec. I just happen to be doing a little project of mine, with my racquets. (I sold my 100P's and can't compare it to that one, until I get more, which should be in January)

I figured it would be easier to see them unstrung, but I can take other pics of my actual strung frames, if you think that would be better.

TT95, 100P, and 100T will have a narrow, elongated sweet spot due to their head shape. This will give more torsion stability than the wider, rounder Warrior frames.

Nice job with the photos. Does this pair of Textremes have any family resemblance in terms of their feel? I have only played with the Warrior.

I think they all have a very similar feel, and I like it a lot! :) I had another killer set with the Warrior today! I think any dead poly will unlock the "magic" of this frame for me. I am taking 4 grams out of the buttcap, so it will be at a perfect (for me) 330 grams. I would say the feeling is of a more solid, and heavier frame, but at a lower weight, so you can have great racquet head speed. Between the O3 White and this frame, I would say the main differences are feel, and a little extra power in the O3 White. I was able to hit some insanely nice dropshots today, from close to the net, and behind the service line. The string pattern is very similar to the TT100T, in fact, the grommets are very close, with just a few small differences (if you look at the pictures above, it is easy to see the similarities). Basically, it is a thicker beam, and 10 grams heavier static weight.

I just figured I could get more! N8dawg6 is right! If it was the case of the O3 White, where they were the last ones in the warehouse, I would have kept it!! Plus, it was a time where I got selected for the PAT playtest, which I wanted to dedicate 30 days without much distraction. Finally, as a 'holic, I was reading all the comments about sticking with one frame, and I let it get to me!! It actually spurred me to sell off somewhere in the region of 25 frames. Up until that point I had every frame I ever purchased, and started turning into Golem from Lord of the Rings!! I could be found in my racquet room, clutching several frames, saying, "my precious, they want the precious!!" So inadvertently, thank you TT for checking my 'holism, even if it was just for a little while ;) It has been a battle, but I have been taking less and less frames to the court, forcing me to stick with one! My game has improved, from this small step, the wisdom of TT elders rings true, at least in this case :)
I actually had to buy them, I am not magical :) one day I hope to be as awesome as some of the other people on this board, and get it for free. I wish I was writing a review for a magazine, instead of just a 'holic who was fiending for Textreme!! (just so it is clear, I am not a retailer like TW, I am just a holic, who sometimes sells off some of my frames)

I just had a chance to review the Warrior 100 (the one with the white along the inside perimeter of the hoop) and, like the 95 Tour Textreme I reviewed, it has a really nice, flexible feel. It was a bit light for me, but since it's so head-light (nearly 9pts HL) I was able to add some lead at 12, 3 and 9 o'clock without making the frame too head-heavy and this helped a bit with plowthrough. It was fantastic for counterpunching and kick serves, but I struggled a bit on aggressive groundies and flat serves. I prefer 97" or 98" in. heads, and would love to try a Textreme with a head size between the 95 and the 100, because the flexibility alone makes the Textreme frames very enticing for traditional players' frames lovers. But it has a really sweet feel.

My problem is no matter what I hit with I never like it as much as my YTPPs. The 97S has been my favorite newer frame, but the 95 Tour Textreme and this Warrior 100 aren't far behind, and my YTPPs are starting to die and at some point I'm gonna have to bite the bullet and switch.

After spending some more time with the Warrior, and slaying opponents left and right :) I have come to this conclusion. For me, it is a force to be reckoned with. I have pulled off some great shots, and I am getting that extension of the arm feeling. I haven't tried any other strings yet, but I feel like it is just going to keep getting better, as I use more strings that I am familiar with (I probably don't even have to list what is next!! If you have seen any of my posts, you know what is coming!!) Black Shark!!! I can't wait to restring it!!

I haven't hit with my TC-100 in a while :( I want to hit them back to back tomorrow if the weather is good. They weigh the same, and are pretty close in balance (I have been setting all my racquets up to my Angell's specs, and that seems to be a sweetspot for me) I love the foam filled feeling of the Angell, but the Textreme Warrior actually feels pretty close (it still has blutack in the handle still, but I took some out) I can say this much, the last two iterations of the Warrior I have, don't feel nearly as good as this version (nor do I play as well with them). But, comparing the two frames, there are a few similarities (my Angell and the TexWarrior). Both are 16x19, both weigh 330 strung, and they both are around the same balance (I am going to go look at them, and see how the string spacing differs between the two). I am definitely taking them out together tomorrow, because mentally, I am thinking they feel similar, and that is a bold statement. So I want to confirm that, before I would make such a bold statement!! (I think the TC-100 feels like it has more weight in the hoop, and fells like it plows through a little better...maybe it's the foam!!) (great question Racketeer!!)

John B: how does the textreme warrior compare to the 100p and especially the textreme 100T.... Is it worthy of my addiction? How did you get it? Best, jonack

It is very similar to the 100T, except I feel it has more power (it reminds me of a comfortable APD, but with a better paintjob ) The string spacing is almost exactly the same as the Tour 100T (which is fantastic news for a racquetaholic like me, who uses them both...a lot) I think it is a great frame, and it is becoming exceedingly difficult to say which one I like better. They are very stable, and allow me to put volleys away all day, I have been annoying people with inone sane drop shots and also a sickening low driving slice. I just had a private conversation with another TT member (fellow racquetaholic), talking about how we both have been able to play surprisingly well with almost any stick. All the crazy hours of practicing and playing until the lights go off at the court have been paying off!! So, as much as I love this frame, the countless hours I have spent playing/practicing, are a factor in how well I can use it (not that this is a difficult frame to use, I actually found it very forgiving, and just about anyone can pick it up and play some great tennis). I don't want to come across as an infomercial for Prince, or to fan the flames of another TT'ers racquetaholism. But, I think it's a great frame, worthy of purchase. If you have a TT100T and have found yourself wishing for a little extra power, this would be a great place to start. (So would a bed of gut/poly, in the TT100T, if you don't want to go full 'holic!!)
How did I get it? It took a lot of hard work, and I probably appear crazy to anyone who works at Prince :) but it was worth it! (It doesn't hurt that I became a distributor, that definitely helped...a lot! I got 3 of them, but have 1 more on the way when they are released) If you aren't as dedicated as I am, you can order it TWE right now, and pay to have it shipped here too! Hope you are enjoying great tennis weather wherever you are!! (It has rained here all day!! I hope it is nicer tomorrow!) Also, did you nail down the perfect setup for your TT100T yet (lead and string setup)? Have a great evening!

JohnB: I will be playing singles this week with my t100 strung with championship choice... ( gut in mains)... I have been playing with my 107 strung with Prince premier hybrid touch.. (Poly= main... Multi = crosses).. Really, really like this setup....what is the weight of the T warrior 100, and what string does Prince recommend?

300 grams unstrung, I don't see any string recommendations on it, but I would guess they are going to recommend the new Warrior string that is coming out in early 2016 :) or a Warrior hybrid of some sort. (I tend to think most string recommendations are for a string they offer, so it's like a commercial typed on my racquet!!) It is currently strung with Kirschbaum Max Power 17, but I think Prince Tour XR/Prince Premier Control would be an arm friendly/spin friendly setup. I am thinking about throwing in Prince Syn gut 17 for fun, just to see how long it takes for me to break it :) and to see how it plays without a poly string in it. I got sidetracked with my latest project (it's raining, I had to keep busy) a customized O3 White LS-100. I took it down to frame and handle, switched out the stock buttcap with the new Textreme trap door buttcaps, added 10 grams in the handle, and put a Resi Pro Grip on it!! After strings, I expect it to weigh close to 330 grams, 6 or 7 points headlight. It will be an amazing frame to add to my Prince Army!! Here is a pic of my newest weapon! (sorry I went off topic, but I am excited for it!!)

JohnB.... I can't wait for the T Warrior 100 to become available, and for the TW reviews...I most likely will buy without demo, just based on the reviews... Hope it arrives soon... Will be following your evaluations... Jonack
