Prince Topspin vs. Ashaway Crossfire II or 18 Kevlar

nationals

Rookie
Hey I was just wondering if anyone had ever tried or uses Ashaway Crossfire II or 18 Kevlar. I currently use Prince Topspin, and enjoy it, but know people who like these Ashaway strings, and I was offered a players package by them, that would be a good possibilty, if the string is similar enough to the Prince topspin. If anyone has any comments, about the string, or similarities and differences, it would be a big help.

the kevlar is very stiff and kills the arm if not tentioned right.
should string at low 40's
spin with it is amazing but the syn gut breaks relatively quickly

low 40s jeez, mine is currently strung at 58!! And when you say kevlar, i'm guessing you mean the Crossfire 18 right? Have you ever tried the Crossfire II, or used Prince Topspin?

any other string, that is similar to Prince topspin please let me know soon, because I need to order, by the end of the week probably. Thanks

You didn't specify what you are looking for in the string, Prince TopSpin gave me decent spin, but broke too easily. Are you looking for durability or spin or something else? Kevlar has both if you're ok with more dead feel. Some people like Pro Supex Blue Gear for its spin production and durability. More information on what you are looking for would help. "Similar enough" is not really clear because to me at least Prince TopSpin is not very similar to Kevlar, but they are both strings...

Are you stringing on a dropweight or lockout machine?
What type of racquet?
Headsize?
String pattern/density?
Any history of arm or wrist issues?

If you're using a dropweight and go with the Ashaway Crossfire II (kevlar/SG hybrid), sonicboi is correct... string low or you may regret it.

Start at 50# on mains and 52# on crosses... then step on each side of the stringbed for 30 seconds to set the strings. Then, go play with it and report back.

** When stepping on the stringbed, place the racquet on a firm, padded surface... like carpet... remove your shoes and keep your full weight in the center of the stringbed on both sides for 30 seconds.

As for it being like Price Topspin... No. It will feel completely different! It's a muted feel, less power... harsher on the arm... but awesome! I love Kevlar/SG hybrids... but had to move away from them due to tennis elbow.

My tensions for these hybrids was approximately 45# mains and 48# crosses (depending on headsize and string pattern density)

Let us know how you like it!

I'm not looking for anything in particular from the crossfire...I currently use prince topspin, but got offered a players package from Asahway in which I would receive a really good deal, so i want to take adavantage of it, and heard that the crossfire, is the most spin friendly like my prince topspin. So i was just wondering if they are similar at all, or if its not even worth it, and my topspin last 2-3 months and i want to hopefully keep the same tension of 58.
